A lot of men will get prostate cancer or "overgrowth", even if they don't die from it. Unfortunately surgery and other treatments often cause impotence and leaking urine.

A major theory is that testosterone feeds and may cause prostate cancer, and medical efforts are often made to reduce testosterone (including castration, physical or chemical).

You should be aware of research which finds that estrogen or estradiol (the female hormones in us) may be the real problem, especially in its proportion to testosterone. This would be good news for people who choose to try to boost their testosterone for different reasons (such as bodybuilders), whether directly or by supplements.

It is noted that the prostate is the male equivalent of the female uterus and that estrogen is linked with female cancers. If the new theories are valid it makes sense to get your estrogen/estradiol levels tested at the same time as your testosterone and your PSA so you can determine the proportions of each. In other words reducing estrogen/estradiol may be better than reducing your testosterone!

As a side note about the herbal product FUZU, one link indicated that although it may boost your testosterone level and sex drive, it boosts your estrogen even more, which might not be good in a prostate case.

I've heard of this new research that links estrogen, not testosterone to prostate growth/cancer.

Testosterone is still the driving force even if estrogen is the real culprit... excess testosterone is aromatized to estrogen. Moreover, the problem is compounded by a male who is overfat. The fat cells are little estrogen-manufacturing plants.

Estrogen is altogether evil. :D

interesting point about aromatization. at any rate here is a link to the basic theory, whatever the cause of the increased estrogen-testosterone ratio.
