The reason I'm posting this here is because I did not feel like posting this in the misc section. Well, it appears, to me, that I have something called a pilonidal absess or cyst. I have no idea how long I've had it, but for those that don't know what it is, it's basically a pocket of bacteria (ie: pus, blood, hair) under the skin. This pocket either comes with a boil, or a bump in the tailbone area, above the buttcrack, or a "sinus" which is basically a small hole that connects it through the skin to the pilonidal. Well, up until yesterday, I had no idea I had what appeared to be, at first, a second butthole O_o. I fell pretty hard on my ass friday night, and at first I thought that the pain was only from the fall. But the next morning my grandma pointed out that I had blood stains on my pj's. Apparently I am now bleeding through this "sinus" whenever I put pressure on the swolen region around it. As you can imagine, it makes it pretty hard to sit, as we speak I am in a very awkward upright position, making sure I do not sit back. Well, today I have an appointment with my doctor, if she doesnt refer me to a colon and rectal specialist/surgeon, I will slap the crap out of her.

Well enough of that, have any of you here ever experienced these, or personally known someone who has???

Honestly, I've never even heard of that. Good luck to you however. It seems like it would be annoying as all hell. For some reason however, I did laugh at the phrase "grandma pointed out that I had blood stains on my pj's"... couldn't tell you why though.

Voodoo i had the same thing happen to me man, i took one to one and a half week off from the gym and then i hit it up hard again. And mine was a huge one so you should be ok. I was no pain at all during anytime after the procedure the docter was surprised. I hope yours goes that well too. You just got to take it easy for a bit and then you can hit up the gym np. You can take a warm bath only a couple inches full in the tub and put salt in to help releave pressure and i pushed on it even though it hurt to drain it to reduce the pain when sitting. Its still not healed completly and its been 6 weeks but dont worry its a painless procedure they knock you out and bam its done. For legs i just did leg extensions for 4 weeks cause i didnt want to squat and rip it or something but im squatting now np. Just hang in there and when you feel strong again you should be able to do upper body no problem. Good luck man!!! those things suck ass. Oh ya theres a type of pencillin you can take forget the medical name but it helps alot to reduce pressure and size.
If you have any questions you dont want other people seeing or anything just give me a PM.
Good luck, Kroxx

I have had two friends with that. My buddy had one on his ass when he was in the 6th grade. My xwife also had one. I took her to operate on hers. The surgury is minor, lasts less than an hour. They basically slice it open, let it drain and make it a wound so that it heals. Get it fixed. its better than having a painful gigantic zit on your ass every couple months.

dude, why would it be a "prenatal" cyst if your friend is a male, and the OP is a male?

you know pre natal means "before having a baby", right?

I think he meant to say pre-natal cleft, natal cleft being your asscrack :), and pre being before it. Also, I just arrived home from the doctor, and I should get a call in a few days about the surgery. May sound nasty, but he put some gauze around the "sinus" or opening, so that the blood doesnt stain. He did tell me not to participate in any physical activity for the next few days, which I do not see any reason why I shouldnt be able to work out my upper-body days, and even my lower body, to some extent... He did no slicing, or anything of that sort, just looked at it, cleaned it out, somewhat, and put some gauze on it. I really do feel like working out, especially after a week off, and I have been waiting to start my dual factor hypertrophy routine for a while. I am going to give it some thought, today was supposed to be my upper body hypertrophy day. :(

Also, another thing that I hate to think about, besides not working out for a couple weeks, is the fact that I might have an open wound down there for a while, cleaning it out every day. Just does not sound appealing at all. I was told mine is not necessarily ready to be drained, but it is infected. I suppose that I will have a small open wound for a while. For those who have experienced it, how big was your wound, and how long did it take for it to fully close?

I had one of these 2 years ago. I let mine go too long and it turned out to be extremely painful. When I went to the doctor the first time he drained it and said it was the most he had ever seen. So at least you weren't a dumbass like me and got it checked out early on. As far as training goes, before the operation I think you should be fine to do whatever you feel comfortable with. Just be careful that the gauze doesn't move around during the workout and leave you with an embarressing stain.

As far as after the operation I would definitely be very careful. You are right they will leave it pretty much open to drain and you have to be good about keeping it clean every day. For the first week I was careful about doing everything, sitting down, stairs, etc. After that just don't be stupid, anything that puts pressure on it runs the risk of opening it back up early on when it is beginning to heal. It sucks but you are going to have to miss a few weeks of training. Good luck, and like someone else said, the operation is pretty quick, I had mine done by a general surgeon, so no rectal specialist haha :)

So... how big would you say your wound was? I would think that mine would be smaller.

Honestly I dont remember exactly, I know that I had 3 separate incisions. I think each one was about half an inch, give or take. Yours doesn't sound like it would be as big, as you are doing something about it early on. But I'm not a doctor or a surgeon so I really have no idea if the size of the wound varies greatly from person to person.

Thanks everyone. It appears I am taking the day off today, since I have to prepare for an essay i have to write tomorrow O_o. Well, I guess I will have to modify my first week on my new routine :(... It's ok though, I'm going to work hard until the day of the operation, then I will have to take some more time off.

Lets hope its not an ingrown hair, I have a friend with one of them, and they cut it out all well and good, but it had to heal from the inside out, so they cut it out and packed the hole, he had an open sore for 7 days, not nice!.

I had one. I had 3 surgeries between 95-97 which were nightmares cause I was overweight. They don't sew you up they leave the wound open (mine was about 5 in lone and about 4 inches deep) to heal from the inside out. I have had many complications. It's 11 years later and I'm still haveing problems. I also had a moron doctor. Feel free to pm me if you want some more info. This is why I went form 165 to 245, I was told I could do nothing. This went on for at least a few years. Don't do the surgery unless it dire.

A guy I worked with said something about a cyst on his back, so I did some research, and it horrified me, and I'm pretty hard to horrify hehe, I hated the guy but still felt kind of sorry for him :-(

Hi. Yes I have gone through surgery to cut out the abcess which left a hole which had to be packed and dressed every second day at the hospital. 3 months later it has now just healed but right now I'm about to have another operation in 2 days to cut the tracking. I would advise to go to the hospital. They will know what to do. I know how painful these are. I fainted with the pain. I would suggest if you are having surgery do not let them stitch it! It never works. Ask for it to be left open. Yes a longer recovery but the chances of it coming back are slimmer. Hope you found this helpful. Let me know.

I'm sure that if OP is still hanging around after 9 years, he'll let you know
