Would you call a right to bear arms a liberal-consevative theory?

Like Conservative- it is part of america's history
liberalism- like freedom, rights,etc.

Why does everything have to fit onto the a narrow left-right spectrum?

Liberal, conservative...these terms are a lot different today than they were in the past.

Those who support individual freedoms are liberal, but "liberals" today only support *certain* individual freedoms.

that's what I meant. I probably will just mention in my essay that the liberals misinterpret it or something.

Liberals and conservatives are both ignorant and stubborn. No need to argue with either one one these types because they are hell bent on their ways. Just stick to the people who are in the middle/moderates to base any kind of decision on whats right and wrong U.S. becasue they are un biased.

It's neither left nor right. There are people on both sides who support that. It's on the libertarian side of the Y axis, as opposed to authoritarianism.

That's the best description I have seen.

Classical liberals, who are considered conservatives in today's terms.

(Note: Real conservatism is rare these days)

Both democrats and republicans want to control your life. And both sides are hypocritical.

Most Dems say no guns for the people
Most Republican's say no abortions for the people

You can't win when it comes to civil liberties.
