Hi, I'm new to this ... well everything. I am a bit intimidated by how much everyone seems to know, I just get lost in it all. But everyone is so encouraging, I thought I might be able to ask a dumb question...

I just started to use the wieght machines at the gym. First machine, leg extension, the second I start to lift I instantly get a headache. I thought maybe becuase I held my breath? So, I carefully made sure to breath today and it happened again.

Is there something wrong with me? or what I'm doing? the weight doesn't feel that heavy ...

thanks, Joie

I'm not a doctor, but have you had your blood pressure checked lately? I know that your blood pressure can shoot up temporarily while you are lifting. That could possible cause an instant headache. But again I'm not a doctor, just throwing out a suggestion.

How many times has this happened?
How long does the headache last?
Where in your head is it?
Does it happen on any other machines?
Have you tried starting on a different machine?

Are you drinking any energy drinks at all? Those can give me instantaneous piercing headaches when combined with a strenuous workout.

Thank you so much for all the replies, after I hit the post button I realized that I should have done more research on my own before bothering everyone.

... I had my blood pressure checked about six months ago, it was norm, thank you for the suggetion, I might have to look into getting a doc appointment if it doesn't get better.

... I am going to try analyzing the pain a bit more the next time I workout, hopefully being more aware of the question you asked and the links with all the great information will help me pin it down better.

... used to drink energy drinks, but something in them and any kind of energy in pill form gives me a headache with or without workouts, I'd forgotten about that

... thanks again for the links. I will definately re-read them and make sure I pick everything up.

What's the best way to search through the forum, to make sure I don't keep asking the questions that have been asked a million times before?

There's a search link at the top of the page, and sometimes on the very bottom as well. Just search for whatever you like.

No biggie, I don't think anyone's offended :D
