Hey Everybody,

What are your thoughts on doing a short term (less than four weeks) low-carb diet as part of a cutting program? Would this be a good choice for losing fat whilst preserving muscle?

Thanks!

You'll be fine with LOTS of protein, fiber, and healthy fat.

Absolutely. Check the Keto forum, but the bottom line is LC\HIGH fat is probably the BEST way of preserving muscle while trying to cut. Very muscle sparing way of eating.

"LOTS" of protein isn't necessary( i guess that's a subjective term). 1g per lb of LBM should suffice for cutting. I would concentrate more on making sure you are getting about 65% of daily cals from good fat sources. The protein will be an easy macro to fill up.

I'm gonna have to disagree... I'd recommend up to 2g protein/pound. I've tried 1g/pound and lost a ton of muscle...

*shrug* Almost every thread you'll read in the Keto forum agrees with me. Maybe you're a mutant. :)

Eating that much protein, it would be awfully hard to get enough fats in to provide energy and still stay under maintenance calories.

Thanks for the responses, everyone.

What would you recommend for fats aside from EFA's? I take Omega 3-6-9 and fish oil everyday; what kinds of food should I eat to ensure I get sufficient good fats?

Thanks,
C10

have you thought about carb cycling?
for athletes, it is better than low-carb, since it allows you to eat post-workout.

check out halleluyah's thread on carb-cycling 101.
