View Full Version : Water intake: does only pure water count?

Hi Guys. I always strive to get in around 1.5-2 gallons of liquid a day, most of which is water. However I often come across arguments both for against the question of it having to be pure water and nothing else.

I often have a few large bottles which have water an a little stevia powder, to add some sweetness and to help get it down ;) Sometimes I also add a little fresh lemon juice. Is there anything wrong with these? Do these 'additives' interfere with the water intake or its absorption?

I don't think adding stevia/lemon juice will have any effects, but other drinks like soda/coffee will.

Soda/coffee has caffeine, which dehydrates you, so you have to drink water, just to re-hydrate yourself.

Drink at least a gallon of water, and anything else is up to you.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Coffee I hardly have anymore. Just plain water, water with stevia, and tea (green, rooibos, chamomile etc.)

Stevia and lemon should be fine. I would not include sports drinks, soda, coffee or tea into you total...
