I heard from someone that our body only recognizes so much protein per meal, i.e. we are to leave a certain amount of time in between protein heavy meals.

For instance, I just had a protein bar 20 g and it was lunch time half hour ago. I would have just eaten the bar AND my tuna (30 g Protein) at the same time, if I thought that it would all recognize but now Im not so sure.

Better to leave an hour or so in between high protein meals????

As a good rule of thumb, whether dieting or cutting, you should AT LEAST get 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight. Assuming you weight 140 (at least, that's what it says in your sig), that's about 140g of protein per day. Assuming that you eat about 6x per day, that's about 23g of protein per meal.

Again, I'm speaking in generalities (I normally eat at least 1.5g of protein x my bodyweight in pounds), but what I stated above is a good general rule.

Just another example: I weigh around 175. 175 x 1.5 = 263g of protein a day. 263 / 6 meals per day = about 44g of protein per each meal.

Don't be too anal about it, either. There are times when I eat only 20g in a meal, other times when I have 60+ grams in a meal (like when I eat 2 lean burgers with 2 slices of 0 fat cheese). Just make sure that you are around your goals by the end of the day.

Hope that helps!

It's best to spread out the protien evenly throughout the day. I look at 20 as being my minimum per meal (6 meals a day) and it isn't uncommon for me to go over 30 in one sitting.

As far as the 1 gram per pound of body weight - I just can't do it. But I've been successfully dieting on less while getting some muscle definition and growth. Don't let the stress of balancing your macros affect your overall goal.

your body will digest it all, but it may not all be put to use in the bloodstream.

Hey all! I am fairly new to the weight training scene. I am 35 year old female weight about 135 and want to be 'muscular'. I am taking creatine, L-glutamine, a good multi-vitamin along with whey protien shakes. I am having a hard time figuring out the amout of protien in grams I should be consuming a day! Can anyone help me?? THANKS.

You should wait 2 hours between meals.

I spread out my protein through 6 meals a day, and do it very meticulously. I don't know what you guys experts think of this, please comment..

all meals are 3 hours apart
Meal 1 : Whey protrein
MEal 2: Eggs
Meal 3 : Eggs
Meal 4: Fish
Meal 5: Fish
Meal 6: Fish with Oil

as you can c.. in the early part of the day i take the fast digesting protein, and later in the day, i take more slow digesting protein. The slow digest protein will last me through the night

This way, i think my body gets its constant supply of amino acid for anti-catabolic purposes

You're only getting 3 sources of protein....?

My body is fairly honest by how much protein it can digest at a time.

Depending on the time i can usually digest 25grams (i'm 135lbs)

I can usually tell when i've eaten too much protein when i have a nice case of diarhea.
