Hockey, much like soccer, is not that popular in the US. Canada loves hockey and Mexico loves soccer. The US loves football.

What do you think about Andy Lee is he better then John Duddy?

I think so Duddy is like arturo gatti though all guts.

stone fox
11-01-2007, 08:41 PM
Andy Lee is being lauded as the next great middleweight champ (much of the hype is due to Manny Steward starting it) Imo it s far too early to say.

Yes he had a great amateur career (even qualifying for the olympics is damn near impossible these days what with all the former soviet countries)

Yes he has a great trainer
Yes he has great skills and physical attributes

the only thing that is yet to be confirmed is can he take a big shot on the chin? If he passes this test he has the tools to go all the way

As for Duddy, your comparison to Gatti is very apt. All guts and great to watch but one of the worst defences Ive ever seen for a top contender. As they used to say about Gatti, his idea of defence is hiring a good cut man. If Granpa Campas could clock him again and again id hate to see what an elite middleweight would do

so yea Id say Lee has a brighter future.

Irish youth have too many sports to choose from.

dont know if he has opened up one in Ireland (if it s in Dublin id check it out!)

We have too many sports to choose from for such a small country

Gaelic football
hurling
rugby
football

etc. not a huge amount of out and out boxers so it s a wonder that we produce any world class ones.

Steve Collins was tough as nails but lacking in technique. but his toughness certainly made up for it. Definitely and underrated fighter. doesnt get nearly enough credit for his achievements. deffo one of the best ever but somebody like Barry Mcguigan was more loved for whatever reason.

too many Irish gypsies fighting bare knuckle they need to hit up the gyms man lol

I am sure they would push out more top exciting fighters if they tried boxing. They don't call them fighting Irish for nothing.
