I've heard many different storys of how much protein you need a day so I'm going to post the question. I'm 255lbs and my calorie intake is right around 2000 a day and I'm doing cardio 5 days a week 30-45 mintues and then working Hard on Mondays and Thursday and tuesdays and fridays are easy biceps, backs and squats. out of that 2000 calories a day I'm getting around 150-175 grams of protein, is that enough? Or should I have more Protein? Is it 40 % of your body weight or what? Please help, thanks

I'd say roughly (maybe a bit more) 1 g of protein per lb of bodyweight, so i'd say 250-300 g of protein per day for you.

I would say that anywhere between your bodyweight and 1.5 times your bodyweight is fine. I currently weigh 175 and consume about 230 grams of protien a day.

From the sounds of the intense cardio, and the lower calorie intake (compared to your size), it seems like you may want to be cutting up. Is this right? If so, you may want to try bumping up your protein intake to the 200-225 g per day (increasing the calories from protein), and cut your carb intake down a little to maintain your 2000 calorie/day diet. If you are trying to bulk, you'll have to jack up your protein and calorie intake.

Like the guy above me said, the rule of thumb for bulking (and most builders anyways) is roughly 1 to 1.5 g per pound of bodyweight. Define what your goals are and then construct your diet around that. Good Training!!
