Not many backups, especially former Super Bowl MVPs, would be as considerate of a young starter. Warner is class all the way.

Matt Leinart still is the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Kurt Warner will be still waiting in the wings as the team's "no-huddle" specialist after nearly leading the team to a comeback victory at Baltimore on Sunday.

Warner, the former Super Bowl and two-time league MVP in his 11th NFL season, was happy just to get an opportunity to get back on the field.

"It is a little bit weird," he said, "but at the same time to be in a backup role, for somebody to basically say `Here's an opportunity for you to play weekly,' that excites me."

Warner acknowledged the possibility of Leinart losing confidence.

"I think there's definitely a danger in that, but at the same time we've got to do what's going to be most successful for this football team," Warner said. "And Matt's going to be just fine. That's what he's got to understand."

Warner said he tried to explain to the young qb that it was the no-huddle package that led to Sunday's success, and that it is still Leinart's team.

"I hear the reports `Well Matt got benched.' That wasn't the case. Everybody's taking it wrong," Warner said. "That's the stuff you've got to stymie and let Matt know it isn't about that. `You're the guy. Continue to do what you do."'

When Leinart makes a mistake or two in front of the home crowd, the boos and calls for Warner are inevitable. That brings a smile to Warner's face.

A year ago, in a 16-14 loss to St. Louis, Warner was booed off the field after throwing three interceptions and fumbling away a snap that cost an attempt at a game-winning field goal.

"Now here we are and they want me back in there," Warner said. "It's the business. People are fickle. `What have you done for me lately?' They always are ready on the bandwagon or off it based on what you did yesterday."

He has done what he can as a QB and won a superbowl. So he is just riding into the sunset enjoying it while he can.

I always liked Warner even though he never played for any teams I really liked, he's just thankful to be there playing, which makes sense since he was bagging groceries before he got back into the league.

On most of the post-game highlights, they showed Warner going over to Leinart, giving him encouragement. That's class.

Yep. Warner is very religious so it fits his character.

Kurt Warner is a class act all the way. I wish everything would have turned out better for him with the injuries he suffered in St Louis. It is ashame he got injured so much because the Rams would have contended for some more Super Bowls and playoff appearances.

How can you not like a guy like Kurt. He went from bagging groceries to an MVP and Superbowl winner. He's always handled the adversity with humility. Great guy all around.

I wanted my bears to pick him up for the last couple of years and still do. He has alot of good play left in him and I think he would do awesome with the bears.

The Bears line is struggling with pass blocking...I wonder if he could stay healthy.

Not sure what you're specifically talking about, but the guy is a competitor, so I'm sure there was some frustration when he got benched.

But from everything I've seen, he's been nothing but supportive and helpful to Leinart since it happened.

seems like a nice guy, lot of guys would have been butthurt but in reality he doesn't have a choice, warner was taken off the scrap heap and can be put right back on it just as easily. he has no business being a starting qb in the NFL anymore.

and for the record, he was managing a grocery store, not being a bag boy, the guy was in his 30's not his teens...
