Carbs will definitely help you gain muscle and are a necessity when bulking...

Check out Layne Norton's Bulking: "how to do it right" article...it explains briefly why the carbs are necessary with the bulk and also tells you how much he recommends to take..

The numbers have been high, he says 2.5 to 3.5 grams of carbs...I went with 2.5 because I am small guy...2.5 grams per bodyweight sounds a bit much but since I am very active it's excellent...

Edit: I read your post wrong. I thought you just made a statment that they would help.

Yes, they will definately help in putting on muscle, but they aren't necessary.

Lol of course they will.

Eat a lot of complex carbs like Oats (not sugary oatmeal) and Brown Rice.

One of the primary ways in which carbs help is in that they cause insulin secretion. Insulin is arguably the most anabolic (and anti-catabolic) hormone in the body. Insulin helps shuttle amino acids and other nutrients (like creatine) into the muscle cell.

what is keto?

Keto in basicly a high fat high protein, very low carb diet. I dont know to much about it but if you go on the Keto board and ask about it then they could help you out more.
