Damn, yesturdays game made me hella mad.... when Hasselbeck and Alexander collided and fumbled the ball really ticked me off, they looked like they never handed/recived a handoff before....

Branch looked good though!!!

Also why didn't Holgrem use his timeouts to stop the clock ?

Damn, we better bust our asses in practice this week..

The defense was also a let down. They were cracking guys left and right against tampa bay, but Edge just mowed through them. I know Leroy Hill was out, but I didn't think that would make much of a difference.

Our defense really needs a big run stuffer or someone to pressure the quarterback. Leinart had all day to throw, hell give Joey Harrington that much time to throw and he'll probably have a good day.

Yea too bad Tubbs is made of toothpaste :(

It's no coincidence the year he was most healthy was the year our defense did best and we made the SB.

Carlson is up there in the league leaders for yards by a TE and L-Jack leads all rookies with 2.0 sacks!

Defense looked good first time out.

Also, nice to hear that John Carlson will be split out wide more this year, hes going to be a stud for a long time. And if you look at Gregg Knapp's history as a offensive coordinator, the TEs have always put up huge numbers (Alge Crumpler, Miller, etc...)

Nah I'm not watching the game. But I never miss a regular season game. I met Lofa Tatupu and Seneca Wallace at separate times when I worked at Best Buy. They were both really nice guys.

How are you feeling about this year brah? I think we should do better than last year if Hasselbeck stays healthy and our new coaches transition well. I'm also really glad we got the Bronco's first round pick for next year. I think it should be at least a top 10 pick and maybe we can get a top QB for the future.

I got a good feeling. Everyones healthy (other than Trufant, and we most definitely need him to get back to practice quick). I love the hiring of Gus Bradley as the DC, he seems like hes going to be aggressive and go after the QB this year, something Marshall hardly did, and when he did, it was predictable. Kind of got sick of Holgren the last two years, his plays were so low risk and predictable, hated saying a fullback draw on 3rd and long every game. And never went for it on 4th and inches.

Our draft was great, we arguably got the best player in the draft with Curry, someone I never thought would fall to us. I liked the Unger/Butler picks too.

Front office did a great job targeting our weaknesses (WR and DL) and making it into one of our strengths.. We signed the best free agent WR on the market in Housh. Our 1-4 is set, and there is an intense battle for the final two spots. Our DLine rotation is pretty sick with the additions that we made.

All this combined with everyone being healthy, and a 3rd place schedule and the fact that we only have to play one early game in the East time zone, makes me feel really optimistic about this season.

As for the Broncos pick, I want to get a QB or LT for the future.

Yeah Holmgren, really pissed me off the last two years. But hes a great coach and I thank him for everything hes done to this franchise.

Our DT rotation is nice too with Redding, Cole, Mebane, Bryant. Mebane should have been named to the pro bowl last year, I expect big things about him again.

What are your thoughts on the team this year bro?

I'm cautiously optimistic. My biggest fear is that we missed our window to win big. Especially with Walter getting older and Hasselbeck getting dinged up more often. But I don't think our division will be particularly strong this year again. I think Housyourmama will give us the big receiver that we've been missing since Jurevicious left. And we will (hopefully) have a full year with a healthy Deon Branch and Burleson. Plus last year we locked up the safety position and if we can put pressure on the pocket our D should be pretty good.

So I will say 10-6 or 9-7 and a playoff birth.

Hopefully Walt/Hasselbeck/Branch could put together a healthy season. Walt was still named to the pro bowl last year which is impressive and Hasselbeck is just two years removed from pro bowl status him self. Everything out of camp has suggested that Hasselbeck is 100% and isn't having any problems with his back at all.

I hope this pre-season game is a sign of something to come, because Gus Bradley was calling blitzs left, right and center late in the game when the Chargers were trying to tie the game on the final drive... thats what I love to see.

I definitely liked the play calling compared to the average game called by Holmgren & Co, in particular on the defense for exactly the reason you mentioned. Under Holmgren we lost at least a game or two a year due to overly cautious play calling in the final quarter (and even in many cases the entire second half) of the game.

Anyone have tickets this year? I'm stationed in Japan but am planning on getting to the game against the Bears in September when I come back on leave. Sucks bad not being able to watch every game, was lucky and got this one on our Armed Forces Network.

Its going to be refreshing seeing some out of the box plays this year, maybe even a few trick ones. I also expect us to run the wild cat a few times this year, especially since we have a perfect QB in Seneca to pull it off.

I might go to a game this year, would probably like seeing a division one as those are the best... maybe vs the Cardinals? hmmm...

Im lucky that I live just two hours away from Seattle and less than that away from the border with Washington so I get the same coverage/channels as you guys do concerning the Seahawks and Mariners...everything from Mike Holmgren's post game show to the FoxQ13 post game show. Feels good man.

But, you could check out Seahawks games on the internet for free man. www.atdhe.net always shows a lot of football games. As well as www.channelsurfing.net and www.justin.tv

But it might be tough with the time difference.

i've read that curry was going to see time as a DE to check his pass rush skills from the strongside

did that happen? How did it go?

Did Mebane get much time? I think he should really get a chance to shine if they use him as a 3-technique, he seems better suited to shooting a gap than covering 2, just my opinion

Curry wasn't that noticable tonight. But he did line up as DE bunch of times, he didnt get any sacks but he rushed the QB well a few times. He doesn't look like he doesn't belong when he lines up as a DE, which is a great credit to his big size at LB.

Mebane played about two series', didn't get a good look at him but Cole and Redding were doing great stuffing the middle/left end and shutting down the run game when they were in.

LT Walter Jones hurting again for Seahawks

By GREGG BELL
AP SPORTS WRITER

RENTON, Wash. -- Nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones has left Seahawks practice early with an apparent back injury.

The 35-year-old linchpin to Seattle's offensive line for the past decade was practicing Monday for the third time since training camp began July 31. He took part in one series with the starting offense when he left the field in pain.

He stood and kneeled next to a trainer while wincing and holding his back for a few moments. He eventually summoned the trainer to escort him into team headquarters.

Jones has missed time in Seahawks training camp before because of contract issues.

But this time he is coming off microfracture knee surgery and is learning the new zone-blocking scheme of first-year offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

Yeah after we lost big Hutch it really exposed Shaun Alexander. Sure he got an MVP and cover of Madden, but everyone that watched the games knew he was a soft runner, danced around, and had huge holes to run through.

no hate on Alexander, he really was a workhorse for a good half decade for Seattle, but when I see a RB that is successful, I IMMEDIATELY look at the offensive line.

seriously now. Everybody with a brain knew that Timmy Smith was going to suck the moment he left the Hogs. No offense to SA fans, but it was pretty obvious that Shaun Alexander was going to suffer the same fate as LJ when Shields and Roaf retired and TRich moved on to "greener" pastures

Shaun Alexander didn't even really have any moves to get into the open field, he didnt have a great juke or spin move nor could he run people over. He would just run through the big holes that the O-line would open up, and he made a career/tons of money cause of it.

ok. Jones is old and he's fat (he's a OL, of course he's fat)

they don't recover from knee issues. That's bad news.

Trufant being out makes me wonder if this **** was around last season, because he looked pretty ****ty last season. This is bad news for the Seahawks because Trufant is their only good cover and Jones is really their only solid OT. Considering what happened last season with the Hass and the WR corps being decimated, this is beginning to look like another painfully long season in the PNW

Curry and the "new Neon Deon" might make life a little bit easier though

ah, ok

as I stated in the other thread, WTF he was doing boinking that horseface for after his last 2 shackups is completely beyond me

Trufant wasn't that bad last year, its just that the Seahawks had no pass rush what so ever. And I doubt the problem with his back is from last year, cause he started every game, if he had a back problem the Seahawks would have had him sit out a few games to be safe, afterall their season was over by the week 8 or 9 mark.

Jones may be fat and old, he was still a pro bowler last year. Hes a warrior.

folks assume that the fast dudes are always the best ones but if you're not used to fielding a kick and you muff that suckah, you just put your team in a WORLD of hurt.

Devin Hester has spent 2 years trying to figure out how to play WR after being a KR forever and a day. It's the same type of adjustment going from one to the other. The arc of the ball, the spin/wobble/whatever, fielding it when it is coming in like a rainbow, and having the natural instincts to avoid the gunner (and the guts to take him on when necessary) is not something that is easily taught in a short time.

Edgerrin James lands in Seattle
Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2009 5:19 PM ET

Patience, in the end, has paid off for veteran tailback Edgerrin James.
A league source tells us the ten-year pro has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks.

Per the source, it's a one-year, $2 million deal.

James, the fifth overall pick in the 1999 draft, spent seven seasons with the Colts. He then signed a four-year deal with the Cardinals, who released him with one season remaining, at a base salary of $5 million. The Cardinals initially declined to grant James his release, cutting him only after securing Beanie Wells with the 31st pick in the 2009 draft.

Seahawks dump Duckett
Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2009 11:04 PM ET
As expected, the Seattle Seahawks -- who have yet to acknowledge "speculation" regarding the impeding arrival of running back Edgerrin James -- have cleared a path for their hypothetical arrival.

Per a league source, the Seahawks have dumped backup tailback T.J. Duckett.

Duckett was informed of the decision on Monday night.

The move makes Duckett, a first-round pick of the Falcons in the 2002 draft, an unrestricted free agent.

The Seahawks signed Duckett in 2008, at or about the same time they signed Julius Jones and while Shaun Alexander was still under contract.

After four seasons with the Falcons, Duckett was traded to the Redskins in 2006. Following a single season in D.C., he spent one year in Detroit before signing with the Seahawks.

Duckett's best season came way back in 2003, when he rushed for 779 yards and 11 touchdowns while splitting touches in Atlanta with Warrick Dunn.

When my roommate and I heard about this we talked about who should be our main RB. I think that Julius Jones is the better back at this point in their careers and certainly more explosive. Even though Edge seemed to have found himself in the playoffs last year. I don't think we can really expect that throughout the course of the year. Especially since he's been in the league since '99 and has hit the dreaded 30 year old mark for a RB.

There are too many other players who deserve a spot in other positions. Then again, Branch and Burleson are made of paper.

If the team makes a deep playoff run, would you really want to draft for the future as opposed to someone who could make an immediate impact?

damn, that's right. You'll be picking damn early too. Walter Jones is on his way out the door.

damn, nice timing with that extra 1st

I can't see us not picking a QB in the first round next draft. Hasselbeck is getting old and Wallace isn't the awnser for this team. Then I would say a tackle or something like that. Only other way would for us to find a QB later in the draft we liked that we could save $$$$$$ on, but still a quality QB that could be the face of the franchise.

Feels good man. Especially with McDaniels shipping out Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall being a malcontent (big surprise). I would expect a top 5 pick, at least top 10.

That was a great trade by the front office. Who did the Broncos draft with the pick that we gave them?

True. I guess it depends on how Locklear does as the starting LT these few games, and how high the Broncos' pick really is.

If its top 5, I think a safety is too high too draft with a top 5 pick.

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I really don't like the thought of taking a QB too high next draft.

Hasselbeck still has several years left, I really don't want to be spending Aaron Curry type money on someone who will be sitting on the bench.

I think we could use a 2nd/3rd round pick on a QB, let him develop for a few years and end up fine.

Alphonso Smith (CB) I believe is who they took.

If it's a top 5 pick, I think anyone would be too high to draft.... I'd like us to trade down if it ends up being that high. Back to back seasons of Curry type money would severely hinder us if one (or both) of those guys ended up flaking out.

ESPN's Seahawks Season preview: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview09/team?team=sea
Very interesting read, they graded Leroy Hill as our best LB.

Heres an expert of the article:

Strengths

Linebackers Rookie WLB Aaron Curry should make an immediate impact. MLB Lofa Tatupu has a new deal and is ready for a big season. Throw in Leroy Hill and this is one of the better LB units in the NFL.

D-line depth: Even though this unit lacks a true big-name superstar, it has solid depth at every position. The key will be getting pressure on the QB to protect the team's back end.

QB Matt Hasselbeck: He is still a solid starting QB when healthy. With the addition of WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Hasselbeck has plenty of targets.

Weaknesses

Offensive line: A second knee surgery in eight months for LT Walter Jones has thrown the Seahawks' O-line into disarray. Jones isn't as dominant as he once was, but he is still one of the NFL's better left tackles.

Secondary: Two starters -- CB Marcus Trufant and safeties Deon Grant -- return from a unit that played well below expectations last season. Ken Lucas, who struggled at the end of last season in Carolina, will start opposite Trufant. Recently signed Lawyer Milloy will team with Grant. The big names are here, but they need to improve from last season.

Running game The Seahawks have two known backs in Julius Jones and Edgerrin James, but neither is electrifying or consistent enough to give Seattle the offensive balance it seeks.

/facepalm at "experts" picking us to come in 3rd in the division,

Nearly every one of those analysts mentioned Hasselbeck's health, I think they need to read their own page

"Best development during camp: Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck held up physically and made it through two exhibition games without a word from his formerly problematic back. Injury-related questions annoy Hasselbeck. He feels fine and thinks injury concerns are overrated."

4 Seattle Seahawks: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
I loved Seattle's 2009 draft, especially with the possibility of selecting in the top five in 2010, but Tim Ruskell couldn't get around to addressing the safety position. Brian Russell was let go, but all Ruskell could do was replace him with Lawyer Milloy. Ugh.

With that in mind, why not select one of the top safety prospects in recent memory? As a sophomore, Berry had 72 tackles, 8.5 TFL, three sacks, seven picks (two for TDs) and six passes broken up. If you take a look at the link above, you'll see that Matt compares Berry to Ed Reed. Now that's some high praise.

21 Seattle Seahawks: Jahvid Best, RB, California
The Seahawks are so desperate for a running back, they signed Edgerrin James a few weeks ago. They clearly need help at the position, and the ultra-talented Jahvid Best is a perfect fit for their zone-blocking scheme.

This guy usually knows his stuff and updates his mock drafts weekly. I know it's early and a lot can happen from now till the end of the year. But if this is how the 2010 draft turned out I would be ecstatic. That would fill 2 of our most glaring needs just in the first round.

Locker is the last person I want playing QB for us. Actually I will bet he won't even play QB in the pro's at all. He doesn't have the accuracy. I think USC had it right recruiting him as a safety. He would be a killer safety.

I think it's out of reach though, unless randy moss/ryan grant under perform which I doubt will happen. I'm ahead by about 4-5 points at the moment. Considering trying to trade for julius jones this week..

Seahawks were my sleeper this year. I knew they'd be a good team, but it looks like the division isn't going to be real easy. Cardinals are still a good team, and the 49ers looked good. How did curry do today? I wasn't able to watch the game :\

Curry was good. He had a sick play on Jackson, where he laid him out with a big hit. He had a few really good rushers on the QB, he didnt get the sack but forced the QB to get rid of the ball.

There were two times where he got caught offside (didnt get called one time).

Im stoked on having this guy on our team.

Good start on the 09' season.......hopefully the injuries to Tatupu and Hill aren't too serious....we can't afford to lose both of them this early in the season.
Yea, that'd be a huge kick in the nuts.

Jones is coming in rather underrated which is cool.

Eh, I don't think the injuries are serious. Probably just a precaution to take them out, especially Tatupu since when he got injured, the game was out of hand already.

Nice to see a lot of our back ups get some good playing time today, in the 4th.

From TNT Blog...

For those of you who are concerned, both injuries appear to be minor. Hill has a groin strain and Tatupu has a mild hamstring strain.

“We believe that it’s very minor and we hope that we caught it,” head coach Jim Mora said of Hill’s injury.

As for Tatupu’s injury, Mora said, “It doesn’t appear to be anything serious. We were playing it safe at that point, especially with Lofa.”
