I think a better word for them are high GI carbs or something like that , you know like juice, white bread, rice etc. Anyways I was going through some sample diets on some workout articles on bulking up and they included o.j or other fast carb. Im also trying to bulk up but eat mostly low carbs like whole grain, whole wheat and veggies and fruit. Only fast carbs I have is for my pwo meal and on cheat meals. Do these 'bad' carbs have their place on a bulking diet or where those just some bad articles. Thanks for your response.

Just for clarification, these so called "fast" carbs can have low gi values also. For example, apples and oranges would be considered "fast" carbs because they are digested rather quickly, but their insulin response or gi value, is low at about 35-40 depending.

So called "high gi" carbs also digest slowly in balanced meals. Potatoes and carrots immediately spring to mind. Both excellent foods. Potatoes have gotten a bad rap over the last few years. Bring them back into your diet, give them a good welcoming parade too!

"Fast" carbs should be mostly used post-workout to replace lost glycogen stores and prevent muscle catabolism.

IMO fast carbs are ok as long as they have nutrient density. For example, bananas or carrots are much better for you than white bread or sugar, even if they have similar glycemic indices.

thanks guys. Yes I do eat potatoes ,carrots and even wild rice sometimes. I thought about having a glass of o.j in the morning cuz I do have 1/2 a gallon in my fridge. Is this a good idea?
