When is the best time to take a multi vitamin? Also, I am new to this. Is Animal Pak a good multi? I have taken viatmins in the past and felt sick so I quit taking them.

I take mine with breakfast. I have tried taking them on an empty stomach and I never really found any that did not make me sick. If I forget to take it in the morning, I take it at the next meal time. Some people take one late in the day as well.

I have not used Animal Pak so I can't comment on that, but it appears that several people on here do use it.

Generally take it with a well balanced meal. If you take them on an empty stomach they usually cause a bit of gastric distress. The ones I get you need to take two for a full serving, so I take on in the morning and one later in the evening both with bigger meals. Animal Pak is a very good company, but IMO they aren't worth the money. A quality store brand multi would cover your bases fine.

Your multi will usually say in the directions if you should take with a meal. This is more for absorbtion purposes. I usually take mine with my first meal of the day.

if you're not getting all of your fruits and veggies, yes. but if you eat 2-3 fruits a day and 3-5 veggies a day, you probably won't need a multi.

If your multi causes stomach problems split the dosage. Take one in the morning and one at night. Worked for me. Also some people think you pee most of the nutrients in vitamins out if you take all at once. When I started taking them religiously I was peeing bright green! Someone posted that if I would split the dosage it would stop. I tried it and after the second day it did. Dont know if this holds true or not but even if it doesnt, I would still split the dosage.

I take mine with my post workout meal. I'm in no mood to take pills early in the morning.

I take mine with lunch every day. I keep them in my desk at work and when I get back from lunch I take them. I think they generally recommend taking them on a full stomach because they take longer to digest and you absorb more of them, also some vitamins are more easily absorbed in the presence of other things.

There is a 1 Hour special on Discovery Science channel that breaks down each individual vitamin in the typical multi-vitamin and tells the advantages and disadvantages for each and the best way to absorb them.

In the end, the recap basically said that a normal multivitamin is only absorbed ~10% of the way. So if you take 500mg of Calcium, you are getting ~50mg. They also tried all different types of absorbtion, like taking them with milk, water, morning, night, with food, without... nothing but food made a difference. Each individual vitamin gets absorbed differently, and all are absorbed poorly at that.

Basically... eat a decent diet and you will be leaps and bounds better off than taking a multi-vitamin.

On the other hand, multi-vitamins do have a good placebo effect and keep you motivated and on a good schedule. I take one for this reason :)

I'm just the opposite. After a workout, I'm more likely to gag and puke up a pill. I guess my gag reflex is too sensitive. Oh well, my dream of being a porn star just went down the drain.
