Is it detrimental in any way to eat something like Quaker Oats without cooking them? At the beach or at the ranch it's just too much of a PITA to find boiling water to mix up with it.

quaker oats come slightly toasted anyway, i doubt that throwing them in the micro is going to make much difference in GI. not that GI is particularly relevant anyway, but cook em unless time is an issue.

Yep fine either way, I think they taste much better cooked though.

What do you guys think about instant oatmeal? I eat a packet of instant oatmeal for breakfast, is it better to go with regular plain oats? Thanks...

Check the ingredients. If it's got sugar, I say stay away. Buy a tub of whole rolled oats.

To the OP, if you get the thicker old fashioned oats as opposed to the quick 1 minute oats, the thicker ones have a peanutty flavor if you eat them raw, actually tastes pretty good IMO. But still, I stick by my thin rolled oats w/ berries in the morning, cooked of course.

Since they are fine uncooker, if I am on the run is it a good idea for me to eat them raw and wash them down with water?

I will have to do this tomorrow this week and next week I will be getting up 30 mins earlier...taking small steps on getting up earlier...
