I know that olive oil is a good fat to have on salads etc. Is cooking with olive oil a healthy alternative to normal oil or does heating up the olive oil turn it into a bad fat?

it has a very low burning point, you can saute veggies and what not in it.. just keep the temp low. And dont ever try to deep fry with it.

Right, I would say medium to low on most stove settings. What you don't want is for the oil to smoke.

If you must cook with olive oil, use olive oil. Do not use extra virgin, or even virgin, as it has a lower smoke point.
