OK. So I understand that Glutamine is a big key in preserving muscle mass while cutting. I have also read that ALA can help to. I am ending my bulking cycle soon and want to prepare for some solidifying and then on to cutting and of course I want to preserve as much of the muscle mass that I have worked so hard to gain.

Would you experienced vets break down your routines (nuts and bolts of course) of how you preserve muscle mass during cutting.

What supps do you take?

How do you train?

What you definitely do NOT do?

Anything else?

Thanks!!

well I know this is controversial on here but I keep taking creatine even while cutting, however I keep it to three grams a day, and that seems to do the trick, also glutamine and ala are great, you also need plenty of rest and antioxidents, good luck getting shredded.

Protein, flax oil, thermogenic, Lipoderm.

How do you train?

Heavy weight, with low reps. Mon.-Push (chest, tris, shoulders), Wed.-Pull (back, biceps), Fri.-Legs. Cardio first thing in the morning, after taking a thermogenic and a little protein, on Tues., Thurs., Sat.

What you definitely do NOT do?

Go too low in calories, and protein.

Anything else?

Can't think of anything else right now...

Those threads have good info blaze, but.....Lately I have been reading some real conflicting info on things like ALA dosing for example. I was hoping that there could be some specific info given by those who have done some successful cycles with it, in the context of a cutting cycle, so as to clear up some of the questions in my mind.

Sometimes the more you read the blurrier things get here! Thanks for your help bro!

Hi bro,

As to the supplements go with animal cuts,T2 by SAN,CLA or flax oil, glutamine, BCAA's, HMB(if you can afford it) and creatine titrate.

Take your glutamine +BCAA's + HMB together in btw meals. This is without a doubt the most anticatabolic mix you could get. It will help you big time to preserve lots of muscle. Trust me on this.

You can train heavy in the same way as you train when bulking( you can add some cables...) or a little lighter with more reps. I personally like to train heavy whether bulking or cutting.

Add cardio 3 times a week either 1st thing in the morning or after lifting.

Good luck and keep us updated.

pm me whenever you want. I'll be happy to help.

As to the diet make sure it's high in protein, low in carbs and moderate in fats. You probably know this already but just in case.

Eat from 10 to 12 calories per pound of bodyweight.

Take care

Jake, it sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you are going to do. Supp wise glutamine, bcaa's, and flax oil would be my top three. HMB is good stuff but is very pricey. As far as diet I experimented recently with using all of my carbs pre and postworkout. The results were okay, but I got the cold from hell and had to stop cutting. I think I started dieting too hard too soon and I won't make that mistake again. I think the main thing is ensuring that you are getting ample protein, and that you are still getting some high glycemic carbs postworkout. Other than that there isn't much more advice to give, burn off more than you take in and do it slow and controlled.

I just add in plenty of glutamine and a few cans of chicken every day, trying to get as much lean carb-low protein as possible while dropping (but never eliminating) my carbs....so I'm now eating 9 mini-meals a day, not 6. I also don't go crazy on cardio, (30 minutes at 4.5 MPH maximum 5 days a week, no sprints) and take my ECA religiously (as always.) I'm pretty confident that every summer I hardly lose much muscle at all, based on the mirror...but I think it's practically impossible not to lose any.. :D To be honest, I've never been "competition-ripped" either - just impressive enough for the beach six-pack. ;)

Same situation as you, been cutting for 3 weeks, going very very well, kept my size, but trimmed around my waist by over an inch and my abs are coming out very well.

My strategy:

Supps:
glut, multi, udo's efa, quick cutts

I eat 7 meals a day on training days, 6 on non.

About 270g protein, 200g carbs, 60g fat
With carbs decreasing slowly.

Training:
was on 5 day split, now 4 day, mon-tues-thurs-fri
Cardio, empty stomach mon-wed-fri
sat-sun relax and play sports.

Keep training hard and dont tell yourself that since you are cutting you are not as strong, as you may remember from my other post i came off deca 3 weeks ago but i'm still getting stronger and i've been lifting for about 4 years, make sense?

My diet is very very lean, no pasta's, low on bread only flax if so.
3 tbsp of flax a day (used in my salads)
Use a protein blend and whey - blend during day or at night, whey postworkout or as part of breakfeast

Good luck!

What do you guys think about adding creatine in when cutting?

I'm not competing or anything, well maybe just for the ladies.

I want to add it in, but i'm concerned about adding the dextrose or sugar based drinks to make it more effect.

any suggestions?

For summer I just mix my creatine with 16oz of Gatorade...only has 28g of sugars but I don't obsess over it; at 100 calories it's alright by me. :D
