Does anyone know if there are any studies on how effective laying in bed with your eye's shut is compared to acually sleeping. I have always thought it has to be somewhat effective.

I went to bed at 11:00 pm I fell asleep between 5:30 am-5:45 am I woke up at 6:15 am I layed in bed until 9:30. The next day was just like I got around 3-4 hours of sleep.

All of the sleep studies that I've read have said that laying there with your eyes closed does count as rest. Now I don't know how effective that rest really is, but from personal experience I'd say 10 to 20% as good as awesome sleep (the kind where a tornado couldn't wake you up).

Deep sleep, which occurs early after you fall asleep and lasts for a few hours. After that your sleep is not deep, but still necessary.
