Sorry, I don't mean to sound repetitive, but
a) what exactly is flaxeed oil,
b) what does it do/ what is it needed for? and
c) is it necessary to incorporate this into my diet?

I'd be grateful if someone could reply on this... :)

a) Flaxseed oil is the oil produced from processing flaxseeds/linseeds.

b) It is a great source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These are essential to maintaining your health.

c) No. I feel that if you are going to suppliment with an oil then fish oils are far superior.

you can get some good fiber from ground flaxseeds, as well as the omega 3 and 6's essential fatty acids. you can also sprinkle the ground flaxseed on cereal, oatmeal, salads, pasta, etc. it has a kind of nutty taste, and b/c it is so fiberous, it will fill you up.
