i cant stand egg whites...i usued to seperate them from the whole egg and fry them up...couldnt stand it at all. i went to the store and found liquid egg whites in a carton... it says they are 100% egg whites no added ingredients. what are ur thoughts on the carton approach. ive heard u can just drink it. any suggestions and do egg whites really help out that much especially close to competition time?

yes eggwhites in a carton are good. all it is is the added convienience. and althought the eggwhites are pasturized and u cant get salmonella, i would not reccoment drinking em because only 50% of protein in eggs is absorbed if raw. if you dont like the taste try egg beaters, they have that more egg taste to them

only 50% absorbed when raw? i never heard of that.
yeah i LOVE them , especially for cutting. Same price as eggs, even a bt cheaper.
so i mix half a cup with 2 whole eggs. mmmmmm

i also add it o my protein drinks. good stuff (and yes, you can take it raw, its pasteurised).

You hate egg whites? I love them, I could eat them for every meal, which I often do. I always switch up the way I prepare them to keep them appealing to me. My favorite way to cook them is in omlette form and my favorite ways of preparing them are:

Splenda and cinnamon omlette
Oatmeal omlette
Mix oatmeal in with the eggwhites and make pancakes out of it
Tuna omlette
Cottage cheese omlette

Right now im experimenting with putting sliced tomatoes and other vegetables on the omlette and then baking it in the oven to make sort of a pizza.

i dont care about taste either...its not the taste that gets me its the texture. i used to make my own protein shakes and ide just take a can of tuna, bananna, 2tbspns of peanutbutter, milk, chipped ice, and some gatorade for flavor into the blender. so dont talk to me about taste.

actually its 65 % is absorbed if its raw 95 % if cooked

Amount and fate of egg protein escaping assimilation in the small intestine of humans.

Studies attempting to evaluate protein assimilation in humans have hitherto relied on either ileostomy subjects or intubation techniques. The availability of stable isotope-labeled protein allowed us to determine the amount and fate of dietary protein escaping digestion and absorption in the small intestine of healthy volunteers using noninvasive tracer techniques. Ten healthy volunteers were studied once after ingestion of a cooked test meal, consisting of 25 g of (13)C-, (15)N-, and (2)H-labeled egg protein, and once after ingestion of the same but raw meal. Amounts of 5.73% and 35.10% (P < 0.005) of cooked and raw test meal, respectively, escaped digestion and absorption in the small intestine. A significantly higher percentage of the malabsorbed raw egg protein was recovered in urine as fermentation metabolites. These results 1) confirm that substantial amounts of even easily digestible proteins may escape assimilation in healthy volunteers and 2) further support the hypothesis that the metabolic fate of protein in the colon is affected by the amount of protein made available.
