I eat the instant oatmeal thinking that its healthy for me. Recently I read that it has a higher glycemic index than regular oatmeal. Is this true. Should i switch to the regular stuff?

I just switched because I heard the same thing. The instant stuff is processed so much so it's instant and cooks faster.

I'd switch.

instant oatmeal has a ton of sugar in it, and is overprocessed

what you wanna get is "quick oats" which is just rolled oats but chopped up so they cook easier, the difference in GI is basically nothing, especially if you cook and chew them, and a must for shakes!

Do you guys just stick raw oats in your shakes?? I cant stand chewing while drinking, and picking the oats out of my teeth is always a bitch afterwards.

you can put your oats in a coffee blender for shakes, should make them easily drinkable

Just make sure your bean grinder is set to a low setting. Otherwise the chunks are pretty big and it will be a bit harder to drink them as they'll sit on the bottom more.

The instant stuff I eat is not full of sugar. I buy the regular brand with no added sugar. But I heard just because of the way it is processed that the glycemic index is higher.
