View Full Version : Thought about something with bulk/cut is it practical?

Just doing some math; and I found this interesting.

So bulking safely would be about 5 pounds a month. Dr. Lonie Lowrey (spelling?) said that a ratio of 70:30 Muscle:Fat is a safe way to gain weight. So after a month, assuming your diet and training was consistent, you should safely gain 3.5 pounds of muscle, and 1.5 pounds of fat.

If you switch over to a 1 week cut cycle, you can lose this 1.5 pounds of fat easily since your metabolism is high and you tend to lose fat fast once you start a cut. Then you can lose all the fat you gained and then continue with another month of bulking. You don't have to clean bulk exactly but you can't dirty bulk either.

So is anything wrong with this approach?

Yea chances are your not going to gain 3.5lbs of muscle per month maybe 2 if your lucky. Unless you have some gooooooooooood genetics. Or shooting up.

Not all 3.5 pounds should be muscle; I believe some of the "muscle weight" is glycogen storage, correct me if I am wrong.

Then it wouldnt be muscle weight.

Dont plan on more than 2 pounds a month, and thats for people new to trainining.

Once you get a year or two into it 15 pounds a year is a big deal.
