Lately, it appears to me that some of us who fancy ourselves conservative or liberal are encountering overlapping viewpoints. No big news flash here, but these two terms paint too broad of a stroke when trying to classify many of our stances. I'm curious as to where you stand on some current issues. If interested, copy and complete these questions. Let's keep the bashing of each other's views under control in here (even I'll try :D )

Abortion

Welfare

Gun Control

Foreign Policy (briefly)

Education

Death Penalty

Environmental Policy

Terrorism

Military Spending

Drugs

Homosexual marriages

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

Abortion - Pro Choice

Welfare - A need in our society. However, it needs to be reformed. No more living indefinitely off of welfare. If your search for gainful employment yields nothing, after a determined period, you are given a job by the employment commission. Could be flipping burgers, cleaning toilets, whatever. Single parents would be provided special provisions to ensure the welfare of the child. Drug tests would be given randomly to those receiving government money.

Gun Control - Second amendment is pretty clear here. I like guns, and expect to be able to buy them easily and without hassle.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - Work to be an integrated part of the International Community rather than pretend to be this, when in actuality, we're trying to run the show. I am for increased import tarifs in order to encourage and strengthen U.S. industry. No military action without UN backing

Education - One of the most important responsibilities in our society. If we skimp on education, we're screwed on many levels. Our schools already fall way behind the rest of the world's (for example children in China are required to complete a calculus course prior to graduating high school). I say spare no expense on education. If you don't spend it educating the kid, you spend it on keeping him in prison when he grows up.

Death Penalty - I'm against the death penalty. DNA testing is showing that many innocent people have been sent to prison. How many have we put to death? :(

Environmental Policy - Almost as important as education. If industry can't conform to environmental law, then they can close up shop. It's an operating expense just like insurance. How great can a nation be if you can't drink its water or breathe its air.

Terrorism - OBL and the Al Queda network have commited a crime against our nation, and need to be brought to justice. Spare no expense in bringing this man into custody. Then, I think we need to examine and overhaul our foreign policy. No, I'm not saying "sit down and talk things our with the terrorists." But, rather, find out why they target us.

Military Spending - Homeland security - Yes! Troops policing the globe - No! Development of more nuclear weapons - Why?? We can already destroy the world 10 times over.

Drugs - Legalize 'em. Let natural selection work its course. People are going to do the drugs they want to do whether they're illegal or not. Why not reap the tax revenue off of the legalized drugs, and end the violence associated with lucrative drug smuggling.

Homosexual marriages - I could care less what consenting adults do. If two people are happy together, let 'em have at it.

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

abortion i don't like it, but i think it a terrible necessity
gun control guns need to be eliminated. not possible. and peeps will simply use knives or whatever else they can find.
foriegn policy. if ya gots the power, use it. try not to piss off china.
education should be first priority
death penalty. should only be decided by a judge. some friggers deserve to die. the innocents who die is horrible. tough call
eniromental were killing this planet. it may already be too late to reverse the damage
terrorism wipe em out, no matter how long it takes.
military spending. build something that makes terrorists glow in the dark!! it time to get back to basics.
drugs cut out these cartels and terrorists by makin em legal. use the tax money to give bmw's to bodybuilders
homo marriages. don't care, the prob is when straight people living together try to milk the system, it will prolly never be a huge problem tho.

Abortion- Against it, but not willing to pass judgement on, or take away the rights of a woman to choose.

Gun Control- I carry concealed. In PA, or states where it's easy to obtain a CCP, I would not mind if a person had to at least learn how to use a firearm, before being able to purchase one.

Foreign Policy- Fuk the U.N. Good intentions, that's it.

Education and Healthcare are a piece of mind I'm willing to be taxed for. I favor the way Europe treats education. If you're College material, you should have every chance to make yourself better, and the country at the same time.

Death Penalty- I've never been on the other end of some fukker killing someone I love. Not in Favor of being taxed to keep low level offenders in prison. This goes back to Education for me.

Environmental-More Improvements need to be made in R&D, to justify/equalize the loss in jobs which would occur.

Terrorism- What's terrorism to us, is justice for others. The days of taking hills is over. Human Intel, and counter-insurgency is lacking.

Military Spending- Anyone who has worn a uniform for this country deserves the ultimate in healthcare. I've been in the V.A. system for 10 yrs. and it turns my stomach to see the way Vets get treated.

Drugs-No legalization. I believe it's too late. I'm not willing to pay for the ultra-re-habs that will pop-up.

Gay Marriages- Fine, but not sanctioned by the State. Gay Adoptions- Fuk no. Kids have a tough enough time having freckles, or the wrong clothes.

Abortion -- if it takes someone 3 months to decide if they want a baby, well, they shouldn't be having a baby anyway. 2 months is my limit. after that, too bad.

Welfare -- go get a job. wal mart hires. and stop f*cking you losers. kids aren't a cash profit for you.

Gun Control -- get all the laws you want, if someone wants a gun, they'll get it.

Foreign Policy (briefly)-- stop handing out money left and right. when's the last time someone paid us their "loan" back??

Education -- this is where our foreign $ needs to go. kids can't even find Mexico today.

Death Penalty -- all for it. if there is NO doubt no sitting on death row for 20 years, you die soon. all that have committed brutal rapes should die also.

Environmental Policy -- don't care honestly.

Terrorism -- won't go away this is the new Cold War. this will be a burden for the US for many, many years

Military Spending -- you have to have it. we have to have the best, it's only a matter of time before someone takes us on on our homeland.

Drugs -- lay off weed. i don't smoke it or sell it but it's a losing battle.

Homosexual marriages -- not for it at all. not just on the simple fact that i don't agree. but eveyone here knows when your a kid if you find out that some other kid has two dads, then he is just tortured. kids are very brutal towards one another.

Abortion:I wouldnt do it myself (if I was a woman) and I dont think it is natural, but if someone else wants to do it then who am I to stop them. Perhaps educating women of their many choices when faced with pregnancy would be better than regulation.

Welfare:Like every other system, its flawed. Probably a lot of people who abuse it, probably a lot of people who need it.

Gun Control:Never really thought about it.

Foreign Policy (briefly):Riddled with arrogant demands and blinded by nationalism.

Education: Is in a complete state of **** and stagnation.

Death Penalty:I think people tend to think that its like the ultimate punishment. Its the easy way out. If you really want to punish someone, put them in an 8x10 cell 23 hrs aday for the next 60 years. I think it has been instituted as a cheaper alternative to incarceration. Thing is, what if you got the wrong guy?

Environmental Policy:I think its inherent within human nature to presereve certain areas of the earth. We once lived in beautiful tropical wildernesses, so their is some nostalgia and unwillingness to part with "eden". In the end, most of what we consider nature will be destroyed and a new nature will take form.

Terrorism:If you think about it, we are considered the terrorists in someone elses country right now. Its a double standard.

Military Spending: Dont really care.

Drugs:All drugs should be legalized. Period. I am not even a drug user, not even caffiene or tobacco, except for the occasional toke now and then. What I see with the current state of the drug war is good people taken and thrown into prison, turning them into criminals and breaking up families. I think the whole reason behind the drug war is to make more money. Also, the fact that the use of certain substances causes a change in thinking and that change is not conduscive to what the government has turned this country into.

Homosexual marriages:Seeing as how Im not gay, its really none of my business.

Abortion - Pro Choice. It's a personal decision, not a political nor legal one.

Welfare - Needs reform in a big way, but it's not the evil socialist machine that many see it as. Many people need this as a last ditch support before falling into a homeless existance. I believe it does some good in our country, and programs similar to it have worked wonders in most other modern countries across the world. Keep it, but revise the program.

Gun Control - I have many guns myself, and I live in NYS which probably has the toughest gun control laws in the country. That being said, I would NEVER join the NRA nor stand in the way of more gun control laws...11,000 gun related murders in the U.S.A. last year...something isn't working...

Foreign Policy - It would be cool if we could find it in ourselves to respect the feelings and actions of other countries/religions/races...We don't have the best historical record in these areas, and it doesn't look like we're doing much to change that lately. To sum it up, work together with the world and stop trying to be the big ass bully.

Education - Should be our number one priority. If we had the best educated population in the world, most of our other probs would fall by the wayside. As a country, we've never supported the education system as we should. (except the American Teachers Union...jeez...talk about a friggin' strangle hold on an industry...) Maybe we should bid our system out to private contractors, I honestly think we would get more bang for our buck.

Death Penalty - Sounds like a great idea, the whole eye for an eye system until you kill the first innocent man...as we probably have done a thousand times...it's time as passed...I would support it's removal from our legal system.

Environmental Policy - Huge. As a rabid fly fisherman and hunter I spend most of my recreation time outdoors. It saddens me to no end to see law like "the Clean Water and Air Act" under fire from the present administration... I pretty much have voted along Green Party lines the last few elections...yeah, I know it doesn't do much good, but it does make me feel better.

Terrorism - Yeah, it sucks. Why is there so much of it though?
I really don't have a clear idea of how to reduce it, but I don't think invading more countries and surpressing more people is going to be the big idea here...

Military Spending - I think we need need a strong military, no doubt. It's one of the few areas I really want my government to control and administer. I think we're all set though, maybe a little bit more toward education? Huh?

Drugs - Legalize it baby! Let's face it, prohibition sucked ass, and didn't work worth a damn. I mean, what is the biggest cash crop in the U.S.A. again? Oh yeah, Pot...great, and we can't even tax it, we just spend billions trying to remove it...and doing a piss poor job. "Just say no" my ass...

Homosexual marriages - Cool with me. I would also extend companies benefits to same sex marriages, the whole nine yards. Love is love, I really don't care if it's between man and woman or between people of the same sex. As far as adoptions go...as a child that spent a good part of my early years in an 'youth institution' (read: orphanage) you people are ****ing nuts if you think that kids are going to have it worse off being with two gays than they would otherwise. Please trust me on this, there are so many children in our country that are unloved, unwanted and horribly treated everyday...you think some gay couple is going to be worse? You're nuts man, you don't have a clue how bad many of our nations children have it. Yeah, this one hits me where I live. My childhood was not picture perfect nor a pleasant one, and I really would have traded it all in a flash for a decent house and two people that actually gave a **** about me...it would have been better man, a lot better.

Abortion - generally pro-choice

Welfare - should be available to those incapable of working and those pursuing work. Public works programs for the unemployed are also a good option.

Gun Control - opposed to handgun bans, not necessarily registration

Foreign Policy (briefly) - firm but generous, diplomacy before military conflict, multilateralism

Education - I'm all for it :) you gotta be more specific here ...

Death Penalty - not sure, to be honest. I don't like it as a general rule, but I can't say I'd shed any tears if bin Laden got hanged.

Environmental Policy - pro-regulations.
Enviornmental quality is a public good, and individuals don't have unlimited rights to it.

Terrorism - uh, I'm all against it. Again, specifics?

Military Spending - is about fine. It needs to be used more efficiently, though.

Drugs - legalize marijuana, offer free opportunities for treatment for addicts who want to quit.

Homosexual marriages - a stupid issue, IMHO. Same-sex civil unions should be legal.

IRON LORD why do you want to legalize drugs but drug test people on welfare?

Tim
12-18-2003, 11:05 AM
Abortion - Don't support it 100%, but I'm pro choice because it can save a lot of money.

Welfare - It should exist, but these people should be forced to work a menial job for their money after a while if they cannot find something better on their own.

Gun Control - I support gun control; I've never owned any firearms and never will.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - US should be more isolationist. It shouldn't try to be the world police, and it shouldn't support a specific side in certain controversial conflicts (ie the Middle East conflict).

Education - Education is very imporant, and it should be ensured that enough tax money is spent on education.

Death Penalty - I think that murderers should be put to death, but as mentioned, too many innocent people have been executed, so I am against it.

Environmental Policy - It is very important, and I think that there should definitely be reasonable government regulations to protect the environment.

Terrorism - I think the US should try to catch the terrorists that attack it, by whatever reasonable means necessary.

Military Spending - Only to protect the US itsself, NOT to get involved in unnecessary conflicts when the US isn't even attacked.

Drugs - Legalize them all.

Homosexual marriages - Legalize them.

Abortion = Murder (You are entitled to your own opinion uncondmned...this is A-f*cking-merica)

Welfare = Tough times don't last tough people do. I'm not against helping up my fellow man when hard times come. He just needs to get his ass up though cause I ain't carrying no dead asses.

Gun Control = Nazi / Communist liberal f*cking takeover. Take my guns from my cold dead hands.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - If they f*ck us...f*ck them. They hunt our women and children...we kill theirs. Make an example and leave a crator somewhere and those stupid bastards will learn.

Education - Should have MASSIVE overhaul. Teachers should make good money...not basketball players.

Death Penalty - Prime time every night on ALL networks. The sh*t will stop soon enough.

Environmental Police - Use the land wisely...replace what we take. Put the oil companies out of business.

Terrorism - Kill 'em all let God sort them out. (Those candyasses want to see Allah so f*cking bad...get their ass a 1st. class ticket!)

Military Spending - Must keep the homeland safe.

Drugs - Legalize steriods w/ education. Legalize minor recreational drugs.

Homosexual marriages - NO! (nuff said)

Abortion
Depends on the situation, I'm for choice.

Welfare
I'm for Welfare, it helps a lot of familys out that for some reason can't get a job.

Gun Control
I'm for banning guns, They are banned already where I live.

Foreign Policy (briefly)
If your in another country, follow their laws and policy, simple enough.

Education
Education is one of the more important things in life, everyone should have the right to get a good education.

Death Penalty
Against. Who is anyone to take a life of someone else who killed someone, it's hypocritical.

Environmental Policy
every little helps

Terrorism
I don't believe in the word Terrorism when it comes to politics, Terrorists who are in it for money (hijacking places to hold a ransom with hostages) are terrorists, not Political Freedom Fighters who would die for their country, whatever side of the world they come from, they deserve respect for their beliefes.

Military Spending
I'm against it when a country spends a lot, like America recently, when obviously it's not the most important thing.

Drugs
Against drugs 100%.

Homosexual marriages
I'm for it, who are the government to say that two men or women can't marry?

Abortion: Pro-Life and I will take anyone on in that arguement.

Welfare: It should be for citizens how have been previously employed for a number of years, they ought to show active proof of seeking employment.

Gun Control: Every state should have a Right To Carry Law, I think short of military grade rifles and machines guns it should be available to the public (kind of off for being a californian).

Foreign Policy: If there is a nation that threatens us, publicily or silently, then we should threaten them. Don't stand around and wait for someone to hit us, hit them first.

Education: huked en fonikz wirced fur mi! I support school vouchers, parents should have the choice where their children are going to school without paying the taxes for public school anyways.

Death Penalty: Eye for an eye, it needs to be grossly reformed though.

Environmental Policy: Reduce, reuse, recycle, but don't camp in the wood for my home or tell get in the way of my Big Mac.

Terrorism: I like the way we are handling it right now.

Military Spending: We don't need a buildup like in the cold war, but we do need to keep it a number 1 priority.

Drugs: Over the counter or what? Two extremes, legalize it to regulate it and face the huge surge of stoned people or continue to fight a loosing battle....

Homosexual marriages: I do not believe the homosexual lifestyle is an acceptable lifestyle. I will tolerate it, but not accept it. Tolereate defined: I do not hate, or think of the person any different, but I do not like that aspect of their life. Similar to about friends who smoke.

Abortion - pro choice

Welfare - abused by some, needed by others. still needs more reform..nobody should be living on welfare indefinitely

Gun Control - We need some gun control. I'm for registration but definitely not for a hand gun ban..then only the criminals will have them

Foreign Policy (briefly) - We need to work more with the international community, not just think we should do whatever we want and have no consequences. We need to restore the relationships with our allies, and we should not take military action without UN support (barring a VERY IMMINENT threat)

Education - Definitely needs some overhauling...$60 billion on education and $360 billion on military? http://w3.access.gpo.gov/usbudget/fy2004/budget.html

Death Penalty - Only in the most extreme cases. If there is ANY doubt whether they have the right man, the death penalty should not be an option.

Environmental Policy - Important. Need more regulation in industry.

Terrorism - I don't think invading more countries is going to help solve this problem. Like frog said, terrorism is the new cold war.

Military Spending - We need to have the best military in the world, but spending needs to be cut a little bit in favor of education/enviroment

Drugs - If cigarettes are legal why shouldn't weed be?

Homosexual marriages - In favor of it. What happens between two consenting adults isn't my business, or the governments. I don't understand how straight married couples feel threatened by homosexual marriage? Love is love.

Welfare- FOr it with mild restrictions

Gun Control-No except for assault weapons

Foreign Policy- For Iraq 100 percent and for any other countries but NOT for invading north korea

Education- No opinion

Death Penalty-For it and also shortening death row time

Environmental Policy- I hate tree hugging liberal left wing hippies. :D

Terrorism- For Patriot act and i dont think any terrorist have ANY rights.

Military Spending- A lot

Drugs- Legalize marijuana for 21 and steroid use for those 21 and over who get mandatory checking by physician(only to eliminate some idiots who ABUSE steroids).

Death Penalty all for it

Here goes....

Abortion Pro choice. I wouldn't want my future child aborted, but it's none of my business if someone else does

Welfare I agree with assistance for those in need, but the system needs reform

Gun Control Crime needs control, not those that want to legally own guns

Foreign Policy (briefly) I don't think we need to act as if we are the world's police force. We need to work with other countries, not against them.

Education The education system needs serious reform. Like TIL said, "If you don't spend it educating the kid, you spend it on keeping him in prison when he grows up."

Death Penalty Personally, I don't believe in killing another human and a lot of innocent people have lost their lives, but every crime has it's consequence.

Environmental Policy I don't want my grandchildren to have to wear gas masks because of our environmental neglience.

Terrorism I'll give TIL a BUMP Also, fire is fought with water, (or an extinguisher, whatever) not fire. We need to get down to the root of the problem and solve it.

Military Spending Homeland security should be the priority

Drugs I think recreational drugs should be legalized. It's a waste of time to prosecute someone for juicing or smoking a joint, etc.

Homosexual marriages What someone else does with their genitalia is none of my business. I don't think it's right, but who's to judge?

ABORTION: I think abortions are wrong. But personal freedoms are paramount, so neither I nor the government has the right to keep you from having access to one.

WELFARE: Opposed, particularly at the corporate level where government handouts feed big business. For the individual it should be the support of last resort and not a lifestyle.

GUN CONTROL: No gun control, but there should be a wait before purchase(24-48 hours) and a background check.

FOREIGN POLICY: America's foreign policy should rest on four principles 1) non-interference 2) no foreign aid or military assistance 3) security against attack 4) target the aggressors, not the innocent.

We can do more for world peace by providing free trade,by refusing to meddle in other countries affairs, and by not arming the participants in disputes.

EDUCATION: Haven't made up my mind on this one. Don't care much for vouchers. Like the idea of class size reduction, particularly from K-3.

DEATH PENALTY: Pro, but reserved for the most heinous crimes, where the guilt of the person is unequivocal. For murders, serial rapists/child molestors/sexual predators would also like to see the death penalty as a voluntary option for them, so they have an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: Protect our wetlands and aquifers from pollution. I love nature but if a choice is to be made between 10,000 jobs for people and a small fish or bird ... I choose the people every time.

TERRORISM: Eliminating terrorism while a noble concept is completely unrealistic. I think it can be minimized by the steps I've outlined under foreign policy.

MILITARY SPENDING: Defense, IMO, is the prime purpose of government. Spend where it is needed such as a security plan against missile attacks. Make concerted attempts to economize, especially when it comes to handing out contracts for equipment and supplies.

DRUGS: Along with gambling and prostitution should be decriminalized for consenting adults.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE: One more aspect of personal freedom, if gays want to get married (and be as miserable as all other married couples:D), the government shouldn't stand in their way.

interesting thread: my views:

Abortion: a tough one for me, depends. if a women is rape, it's her choice to have it/give it up for adoption or go with the abortion. BUT if a girl willingly spreads her legs just to get to be f'ucked by a boyfriend, she better have that f'ing baby!

Welfare: needs to be control better...seen/hear about many families faking their status to get welfare.

Gun Control: i think there has to be stricter laws against people that have owns illegally. guns kill people.

Foreign Policy (briefly): this country wastes too much f'ucking $$ and time dealing with other countries, worry about your own.

Education: our system keeps going down the tiolet, stupid leaders needs to stop wasting billions overseas and invest that money our the U.S. school system

Death Penalty: I'm for it! If you're found guilty of a crime and it deserves the death penalty, oh well...rot in hell!

Environmental Policy: have never given this too much thought...

Terrorism: this will always occur....hell, isn't the U.S. a terrorist for other nations too?

Military Spending: needs to be cut to put that $$$ into our school and health systems

Drugs: stricter laws against those caught using illegal drugs, even against the rich!!

Homosexual marriages: doesn't bother me, hey if you love dick and are a guy, or love pussy and are a female, go for it!

Abortion: Against it, except for cases of rape.

Welfare: Too many people abuse the welfare system, and I know plenty of people who do. For welfare to work it needs a major reform. Welfare should only be provided to those who actually need it to survive, but it shouldn't just be handed out. The people recieving welfare should only be on it for a maximum of 1 year. During this 1 year period they should have a maximum of 2 months to find a job and start work. After those 2 months they should then remain employed in order to recieve welfare. If they quit their job too bad they don't recieve welfare, if they get fired same thing. Welfare should be a temporary aid for people to get back on their feet, not to use as their main source of income for years.

Gun Control: Against it, no guns are to be taken away from me unless they are from my dead hands.

Foreign Policy: If a nation threatens us in anyway, then as the most powerful nation we show them where they stand. Keep our allies close to us, since we don't know if we will need them in the future, but don't cater or cave always to waht they want.

Education: Very important, need more emphasis on spelling, math, reading comprehension, and politics :D

Death Penalty: For it, especially for murderers, and rapists.

Environmental Policy: Protect it but don't increase my tax dollars in doing so. Develop a fuel cell asap, to reduce our dependency on oil, and the middle east.

Terrorism: I like the way Bush is doing things now.

Military Spending: Should be our number 1 expense, as thee superpower in the world, we need to do everything to maintain this.

Drugs: Shouldn't be legalized, drunks are enough to handle as it is. Don't need to deal with people who are on PCP and can take 7 shots to the heart without dying.

Homosexual marriages: Against it, and against the lifestyle, but I will tolerate them, and treat them like another human being.

Doctor Assisted Suicide: Against it, since I don't want my tax dollars being spent on something they can do for free.

Affirmitave Action: Against it, it should be the best person for the job, and according to AA I am considered a minority.

Abortion- For. Only thing I am against is partial birth abortion, but I would allow it if the mother's life was threatened.

Welfare- I am an advocate of welfare reform, but i would fund it very well just make sure the money went to those who would use it properly.

Gun Control- I think their should be stricter gun laws, making it harder for criminals to get a hold of them, but I am not for banning guns outirhgt.

Foreign Policy (briefly)- no preemtpive strikes unless the country poses an immediate threat. Anti-Iraqi war, but I believe we should stay for reconstruction. Think we should engage in talks with NK and Iran.

Education: I think it needs to be more properly funded especially state universities. The cost keeps going up too fast.

Death Penalty: I think the death penalty is used too liberally. I support it for extreme cases (serial killers, tyrants like Saddam, etc.)

Environmental Policy: I think their should be fairly strict laws to preserve the enviroment.

Terrorism: I think its nessicary to take the fight to some of the terrorists groups, but many of them could be better solved by non-violence (e.g. Israel vs. Palestine).

Military Spending: Military should be properly funded but we need to scale down the nuclear weapon arsenal.

Drugs: Keep the lethal and deadly ones illegal (e.g.) heroin. But things like weed I don't have a problem with just make penalties for things like driving under infulence of marijuana (similar to alcohol).

Homosexual marriages: Pro-gay marriage. Should have the same rights as straight couples (note you don't have to be married by a religious institution and i would be against forcing such a group to do so).

Abortion - Against it for the most part. Can see some circumstances where it is warranted.

Welfare - For it if it is not abused, and for a limited time. You need to be looking damn hard for a job, too.

Gun Control - Against it. But why do you need an Uzi?

Foreign Policy - Protect our interests, and those of our allies.

Education - For school vouchers. It shouldn't be so hard to get rid of innefectual teachers. Get back to basics: reading, math, science. Computers and internet access for every classroom is bull****.

Death Penalty - For it, where there is no doubt (DNA evidence, multiple eyewitness accounts...). I would like the appeal process to be sped up, too. Death row inmates should not be sucking up my money sittint in a cell for 15 years before they pare put to death. (I read a case where one death row inmate wanted an organ transplant .)

Environmental Policy - Should be some regulation, but overzealous environmentalists would have us regulate some businesses to death for things that have little to no effect on the envirnoment.

Terrorism - Not good. Take them out.

Military Spending - Keep a strong military, and make sure the people in the military well taken care of.

Drugs - Can't say I'm for legalizing drugs, especially heroine, crack, etc. Weed, I don't really care, just be responsible. I will not have my tax dollars wasted on your ass because you're an idiot. Smartest guy I know (4.0 in chemical engineering) somkes regularly.

Homosexual marriages - Dont really care; if they want to, fine. But no adoptions.

Abortion-for it

Welfare- for it

Gun Control- against it

Foreign Policy (briefly)- BigKaz said it

Education-needs to be subsidized more/more availability

Death Penalty- against it

Environmental Policy-money needs to stay out of policy

Terrorism-against it

Military Spending-cut the spending on gadgets/improve pay, living conditions

Drugs-against it

Homosexual marriages-for it/marrige is not a religious institution

I am against Pharmacutical Companies, Energy/Extraction Companies, and Banking/Finance Companies. These business need to be heavily regulated since they will NEVER do anything ethical if it interferes with making a buck and they will as has been proven time and time again put the public at risk for profit.

Lobbiers should be stung up by their nut sacks/tits. They are the lowest forms of life.

Abortion: Against it, but as long as its legal, then it should be legal for men to have a legally equal choice (CFM).

Welfare: Against government funded welfare. There are plenty of publicly funded welfare safety nets.

Gun Control: For it. Almost everyone should know how to control a gun.

Foreign Policy (briefly): Eliminate any foreign aid to countries that criticize the U.S. Peace through strength.

Education: Get the teachers unions snoots out of the trough. Vouchers would be a good idea.

Death Penalty: For it.

Environmental Policy: The envirokooks should stay out of other States decisions. Front groups for communist/Marxist/anti-americanism.

Terrorism: Kill as many as can be found.

Military Spending: Needs to be increased, especially in a time of war. Cut welfare and foreign aid, divert funding and man power for the war on drugs and allocate it to defense.

Drugs: For the most part, those that are illegal, should be legalized.

Homosexual marriages: Oxymoron.

Just a quick note...

They already did divert federal funding and manpower from the 'war on drugs'. Nearly the entire drug-enforcement division of the FBI was dismantled, immediately following the 9/11 attack, and the capital was used to re-organize the anti-terrorism department, from the ground up.

...

I'll type a proper reply with my own views in a bit...just taking a quick study break right now.

Devl will take a stab at this. My answers are below Til

Abortion: I believe that there are only three reasons to ever get an abortion; rape, incest, or life of the mother. It sickens me that some use it as a means of birth control. That some just can't learn responsibilty. With that said do I think it should be outlawed? Personally yes, but then my god (if one exists) given gift of reason comes in. Do you know what it tells me? That outlawed or not abortion would still happen. If we are going to have it atleast keep it safe. I also support measures that would help reduce the number of abortions such as condoms in school (yes Mr. and Mrs. Miller or 302 Maple Drive, your daughter Sally is getting her ballon knot torn up on a regular basis by the captain of the football team and her school's star pitcher), more sex education, parental notification, and a two week waiting period before an abortion would be performed (and in that time other options would be discussed).

Welfare: I support what Clinton and the republicans did with it.

Gun Control: Back ground checks are ok(if you have nothing to hide it shouldn't be a big deal), as a trigger locks. That's it though.

Foreign Policy (briefly) I oppose going to war with countries to remove evil dictators when we cozy up to other evil dictators. We can't continue to have a policy of "he may be bad, but....". No we have to be consistent in our beliefs. If we are going after one evil dictator we have to go after all evil dictators, or shut our f'n mouths.

Education: support vouchers. samller classes. more teacher training.

Death Penalty: oppose it. Believe in life in prison with no chance of parole. Also no fancy meals, tvs, any perks. when you are not doing your ten hours of hard labor you'll be put in solitary confinement.

Environmental Policy: Very pro environment. Believe in tougher regulations, and harsher punishments for those that break these regulations.

Terrorism: well I don't support it. I would like to see more international support.

Military Spending: Our soldiers are seriously underpaid and that is sad. Increase our military spending but not on mickey mouse idea's like a missle defense system. Good in theory, but I have yet to have anyone prove to me that it would work in the long run.

Drugs: You do drugs you're a dumb ass. But you are also a dumb ass if you are stuffing donuts down your trapper on a day to day basis, yet it is not illegal. Drugs are bad but the war on them is both a failure and hypocritical. It is treated as a crime problem when it is really a medical one.

Homosexual marriages: I support state supported civil unions, but believe that each respective church etc should be able to set their own policies on marriage without interference of the government.

Oh and since I can add a position, legalize prostitution.

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

Abortion- Definitely for it, world's way to overpopulated as it is. Should be easier to get.

Welfare-Definitly should be reformed. Drug tests, the whole enchalida.

Gun Control-Don't really care much about it. Leave it as it is.

Foreign Policy (briefly)-Remove our troops from Europe, Japan, S. Korea, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. They're not needed there. Right now, they're only needed in Iraq and Afgahanastan.

Education-Once again, need some kind of reform. Our public schools are a joke.

Death Penalty-For it, but we shouldn't spend so much on it. Simple bullet to the back of the head, bill the cost of the bullet to the family, like they do in China.

Environmental Policy-Need to eliminate our need for oil, and Natural Gases. Also, we can find more humane ways to kill animals before we eat them.

Terrorism- Track them down, and elimate them.

Military Spending- Need an upgrade.

Drugs-Legalize them.

Homosexual marriages-Could really care less. To each their own.

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

I would say my beliefs are similar to BigKAz, Comfort Eagle and AKMoose, but not necessarily the same.

Abortion: Against as a form of Birth Control, should be a medical reason, such as down's, mother's health, rape etc. Definitely against PBA's too.

Welfare: Should be temporary. If you're able bodied, you should be able to work for $. Also, if on welfare, put on Norplant or something - if you can't feed'em, don't breed'em.

Gun Control: Background checks are good idea and training too (like when you get an ATV). No civilian needs a military weapon or machine gun to shoot deer.

Foreign Policy: I guess people forget this, but the US is the most benevolent country on earth. We give aid to countries that trash us in their press (ie Egypt, etc.) We need to change that to: want our $, be our friend. Want to support terror or harm our citizens, prepare to face the wrath.

Education: Teacher unions are probably too powerful. That aside, the best reform is for more parental involvement. Take an active part in your child's education. Schools are not daycares. The less a teacher has to discipline, the more they can teach.

Death Penalty: For it, but the appeals process takes too long. Also, my view on punishment is to divide the sentence into 1/3rd's. 1st third, punishment, no privileges like tv, etc. 2nd 3rd, rehab. And if exhibits progress & good behavior, 3rd third can be parole. Also, while you are in prison for a felony, no citizen rights like filing lawsuits or wacked out freedom of religion, etc.

Environmental Policy: Wackos have to much say. Look what happened to SoCal this year. On the other hand, polluters should be punished severely. Big tax incentives for hybrids would be good.

Terrorism: WIPE THEM OUT. PERIOD.

Military Spending: Spend wisely, no $500 hammers. Pay soldiers more too.

Drugs: Tax weed like alcohol. Rest need to stay illegal.

Homosexual marriages: not necessarily for or against. Should be state's or church's decision. If allowed, should be taxed like married folk and should go thru the same hoops for divorce.

Abortion: Against it, although there are certain situations where it may be justified

Welfare: It's not the government's job to support people. This can be solved through better education for children and parents.

Gun Control: gun control should mean hitting your target

Foreign Policy (briefly): I have no problem with Bush's foreign policy. The U.N. is a joke.

Education: money doesnt cut it. Teachers shouldn't have unions and School Boards should have term limits for their members. I would also like to see teachers who aren't educated by 60s marxists that dominate most college campuses.

Death Penalty: I'm not in favor of the electric chair, I'm in favor of the electric couch.

Environmental Policy: I'd like to see it really scaled back.

Terrorism: I don't like living in fear. I think we need to do everything we can do to put an end to it. Most all terrorism is related to radical Islam, which I'd like to see wiped out.

Military Spending: I think we need to keep our edge.

Drugs: I'd rather see us beat them than join them.

Homosexual marriages: No. Never. I think the fruits of this would take a great toll on our culture.

Abortion- This is not a black or white issue, I dont believe "aborting" 6 cells is the same as inducing birth in the 3rd trimester, drilling a hole in a fetus' head and vacuuming the brain out. Its not black in white, that being said, no one has a right to "choose" to end someones life, that power is reserved to the state(government)

Welfare- Temporary assitance progams to assist people lift themselves out of a bad situation is fine. Having children so you can milk Big Daddy Government for cash, is not. To be used with extreme moderation.

Gun Control- Other industrialized countries with strict gun laws, proportionally, have FAR less gun related deaths than the U.S. Theres no argument ( amendments can be interpreted, or made obsolete.)

Foreign Policy (briefly)- America First.

Education- Give control of education to State and local authorities. Have national standards of basic reading and math skills, but thats it.

Death Penalty- Heinous crimes require harsh punishment. I think Death is sometimes too easy for the people who commit the most wicked crimes, but unfortunately we cant tortue.

Environmental Policy- The best economy in the world doesnt mean a damn thing if we can't breathe. Now I'm not talking about disbanding industry and all living in teepees, but we need to take sensible measures and be responsible about our enviroment.

Terrorism- Eradicate it wherever it breeds.

Military Spending- As the worlds megapower, its necessary to maintain a high level of military preparidness, 3-4 percent of our GNP is an appropriate level.

Drugs- hmm,,,,pass

Homosexual marriages- Marriage is by defination between a man and a woman, so thats a no go. However I do support Civil Unions, that would grant the couple the same legal protections that Married couples do. IF they want anymore than that,,,then they're asking for special treament.

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want.... [/B]

Abortion - It's the murder of innocent babies. Absolutely barbaric. Should be outlawed.

Welfare - Total overhaul needed. If you're getting government money, you should be working for it; picking up trash, mowing public property, babysitting, etc. No more lifelong free rides.

Gun Control - Totally against. Gun control is unconstitutional and actually encourages crime. Look at big city crime statistics with strict gun controls in place.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - America first, our allies second, everyone else is on their own.

Education - More money isn't the answer, though in some areas it's probably needed. What's needed even more is parents to be parents. Take the time to raise your own kids, encourage and motivate them to learn. Way too much reliance on government in this area.

Death Penalty - Should be expanded to include all murders, all attempted murders with a weapon, forcible rape and child molestion.

Environmental Policy - We're probably in the ballpark with where we're at. Bigger fines for corporate violators. We'd be better off worshiping the Creator and not the creation.

Terrorism - Find them and exterminate them.

Military Spending - A neccessity. Peace through superior firepower and technology.

Drugs - Steroids should be available for bodybuilding purposes under a doctor's guidance. Recreational drugs should remain banned.

Homosexual marriages - An abomination. Complete ban.

Gun Control - Just as the constitution states I feel we all have a right to own a firearm.

Foreign Policy - The UN is worthless (that's brief)

Education - One of the most, if not the most integral part of our society. More needs to be done to give children a better education. It is horrible to see what is happening in the education system as I am going through it.

Death Penalty - I am against it because I firmly believe that it is not a deterrant for the sick people who commit crimes horrible enough to warrant the death penalty. These criminals should be sent to Alaska to work hard manual labor and suffer. The chance of someone going to there or to some other living hell would be much better than the death penalty in my opinion. Many of these criminals do not fear death.

Environmental Policy - I do not believe in global warming. What a crock. A hole in the ozone? Yes but not from CFC's or any garbage like that. Pollution should be controlled but I see many other higher priorities right now.

Terrorism - I like what is happening. Bush is doing a good job.

Military Spending - Again, I like our current situation.

Drugs - I'm not sure if you're talking about drug costs or if because this is a bodybuilding forum that you are referring to drug control. Either way things need to be done. Prohormones should not be banned and medicinal drugs need to offered for cheaper, especially to seniors. I don't think marijuana should be legalized. I already have friends who foolishly smoke it and drive around all night among other stupid things. I know many more people would do the same thing if it were legal.

Homosexual marriages - Against.

Abortion:
Fine with it in most cases.

Welfare:
Get rid of it except for handicapped and emergency food/shelter/treatment.

Gun Control:
Against.

Foreign Policy (briefly):
Pre-empt Rogue states before they get nuclear/biological weapons. Not necessarily invasion in all cases. Undermine Socialist/Communist states till they collapse or go free market.

Education:
Public education is fine. Let the people who use public education pay for public, let the people who use private education pay for private.

Death Penalty:
For it.

Environmental Policy:
Pollution is the real deal, Global warming is not. I don't have a problem with preserving forests and punishing polluters.

Terrorism:
Behead them, humiliate them, hang them in a tree. The Saudi's don't have much terror for being the center of Islam..

Military Spending:
Increase and spend it researching everything(including bunker-busting nukes.)

Drugs:
Legalize.

Abortion - Pro Choice. This is a personal decision and not one for the government.

Welfare - There are times when people need help. However, I think it can be best handled by the private and nonprofit sectors. Under government welfare, btw 60 and 70 cents out of every dollar is consumed in administrative costs, meaning that only 30 to 40 cents actually reaches the recipient. In the private/nonprofit sector, 25 cents out of every dollar is used for administrative costs, meaning the recipient receives more benefits. Most government welfare dollars go to support bureaucratic agencies. Welfare should help those who need it, not a bunch of bureaucrats.

Gun Control - Oppose. Efforts to restrict access to guns will cause more harm than good. Only honest people follow the law, not criminals.

Foreign Policy - America's most important constitutional duty is to defend her people. U.S. foreign policy should have America's interest, not that of the United Nation, at heart. Pull out of the U.N., why does the U.S. need their permission to do her constitutional duty?

Education - Support vouchers and anything that will increase competition public schools. Right now, public schools have a monopoly on public dolllars for education, and as such, don't
have any incentives to improve. More money will not solve the problem. You have to return discipline to the classroom and increase parental involvement. Unless you can do that and have a change of heart and attitude, any additional money is a waste.

Death Penalty - Support it.

Environmental Issues - Support a clean environment. However, we must find a balance among environmental, energy, and economic issues. In other words, someone shouldn't lose his or her job because a timber company can't cut a tree.

Terrorism - As I said earlier, the U.S. governments primary responsibility is to protect its citizens. I would support putting economic sanctions on any country that supports or condones terroristic activities, that includes Saudi Arabia.

Military Spending - The U.S. should spend whatever money it takes to ensure that its citizens are safe and our troops have the best equipment possible. Whenever soldiers dedicate their lives to defending this nation, its our responsibility to give them the financial support and proper weapons needed. I also support a missle defense system.

Drugs - Repeal all drug laws. Prohibitions only create inflated prices, blackmarkets, and increase crime rates.

Homosexual Marriages - Two consenting adults, regardless of sexual orientation, who are committed to each other, willing to spend their lives together, and are not interfering with the life, liberty, and property of another person should have the right to marry each other. The law needs to give equal rights to all couples. Leave the "recognizing marriage" debate to the church.

I don't mean to call you out or flame you, JC. Legitimate question here. You are strongly against abortion, because it's murder. Also, your name is "Jesus Christ Freak." However, when it comes to the death penalty, you cite Old Testament scripture rather than Christ's teachings to "let you without sin cast the first stone." Why is that?

Abortion: for it. Making someone do anything against thier will is an offront to freedom in my view. ON top of telling someone what they can and cannot do with thier own body.

Welfare: all for it. Having a social safety net is a good thing.

Gun Control: I think that people should be able to own guns, for thier own protection, and for hunting. Coming from the richest hunting grounds in probably the world, I have yet to see an animal that requires an automatic weapon to be taken out. Same goes for a burglar.

Foreign Policy (briefly) I am happy with Canada's foriegn policy. The U.S. going against the U.N. is in my opinion, a slap in the face of a key part of democracy. Majority rules.

Education: Working in this field, I think more money should be spent in this area.

Death Penalty: all for it in cases where the evidence is irrefutable.

Environmental Policy: its like an old Black Sabbath song says ; " Killing ourselves to Live" . Our everyday living is slowly killing the environment, and people dont really care. the usual uninformed response is " Go hug a tree" .

Terrorism: Give terrorists no quarter within International law. Everyone worries about them becoming Martyrs, if you make them all martyrs, there isnt a problem.

Military Spending: Canada should triple its military spending. Nuff said. The U.S., for what Bush wants, could probably triple theres too. For a sane person, they could trim it somewhat.

Drugs: Legalize cannibis, and all cannibis products.

Homosexual marriages: I see marriage as a partnership, not what goes on in the bedroom. Thats the problem conservatives have with it. I think two men, or two women, that make a life long commitment to this partnership deserve everytthing that a male/female union is entitled to. If your uptight, and cant get over what they do in the bedroom, thats your problem.

It would be interesting to see in a year how peoples views compare with the views of their choice for president next year.

I expected to see more extreme views by more people, based on some of the stuff that's posted on here everyday.

Abortion: Your choice honey...think about this....if a person doesn't want a child how will they treat it after it is born?

Welfare: For it..but no kids while you're on it. No free money handouts....just coupons for things like food, bills, etc.

Gun Control: Guns don't kill people...people kill people...you want a gun go for it. After a background check and a waiting period.

Foriegn Policy: Who gives us money? Not who we give it out to. The UN is a joke.

Education: The person who said teachers should be paid good...not basketball stars......right on. There is no reason someone should get paid even a million bux to put a ball in a hoop. See drugs for the rest.

Death Penalty: For it. Wipe murderers and rapists out.

Enviromental Policy: I want a clean enviroment.....but California is goin to far. Don 't even think about telling me to smog my classic car.

Terrorism: What have we done to terrorize other countries? (I really don't see why they consider us terroists...enlighten me)

Military Spending: We can blow up anyone we want....we are sitting pretty. No change

Drugs: Legalize Marijuana since more than 25% of the people smoke it anyway....Tax it and the tax money can go into the education system. Besides...Pot smokers don't do anything but smell bad anyway.

Homosexual Marriages: Ehh....whatever. I don't understand why lesbians are cool but gay dudes are not. I may be the only guy ever who didn't fantasize about two chicks going at it.

I noted this as one of my points actually.

I'd like to see if it given a chance, maybe a test market somewhere in America.

Somebody should start up Education Inc. and try to do two very important things:

1) Make a profit (sorry, we live in a capitalistic society, and this should always be priority #1 in any biz)

2) Educate our kids better than the current system.

I really think both of these goals are very attainable.

abortion- crap. you are taking a guys 1 chance at life away before they even get it. eat **** and die, abortion.

Welfare-for it. good for poors, bad for richies

gun control- I hate guns. swords are cooler. no guns anymore would be nice.

foreign policy- we all are humans, let everyone be free

education-duh, come on now

death penalty- i like the life sentence better, anyways death costs a load of cash

environmentsl policy- clean, i love fresh air.

terrorism- this makes me sick.

millitary spending- no.

drugs- make pot legal, it will tremendously help the economy

homosexual marriages- fine by me.

Abortion- For it, its not my body, it has to stay legal to be safe. I have a problem with real late term unless a dire medical problem.

Welfare-Needed in society but needs to be fixed desperately. If you keep pumping out kids you need to be kicked off the roles. A temporary help with mandatroy training to get people back on their feet nad in the job market as fast as possible.

Gun Control-Second Ammendment is the most misunderstood one eer. However Guns should should not be banned, full auto, machine guns, lyes no need for them, stricter background checks and training yes, but no to an all out ban. I like my .45 :D

Foreign Policy (briefly)-reform the Un, its a joke, pull troops out of Europe nad Korea and Japan, stop giving in to every crisis and sending in people.

Education-One of the most important thing in any society. Teachers need to be paid much more, there needs to be better effort made in getting up to date facilites and the best peple to teach our future leaders. Needs a bigger part of the federal budget as well.

Death Penalty-For it. Appelas process needs to be revamped, and a safety net installed to try to eliminate the chance of the innocnet being sent through. If applied properly an effective deterrent IMO.

Environmental Policy-Needs to be a balancing act with industry. You cannot keep stopping major projects becasue a snake got ran over. Species fo extinct every day with no help from people. Also needs to be much stricter penalties for enviromental crimes by big business and such. There is a middle ground somewhere.

Terrorism-They declared war, now it is time to hunt them down and kill them. ho9meland security needs to pull its head out of its ass and get moving. The patriot acts need revamping, and the CIA needs its ass kicked and revamped. Up there with education as a top priority.

Military Spending-Neede to keep the military on par with the new changes and threats in the world. Do we need Star Wars, no scrpa it. Nuke work yes and no. We do not need anymore nukes, but further research doe sgive insights inot other things and possible uses of them by enemies. Veterans need to be taken care of better as do soldiers.

Drugs-Weed, legalizew and tax the **** outta it. The rest no, not yet.

Homosexual marriages-Who the hell cares waht 2 people do in their own homes. There is no reason why a gay married couple should not recieve the smae considerations as a married couple. All definitons change and it seems the definiton of marriage is up now. A good thing, does not deman hetero marriages at all.

Immigration- a massive problem. The US allows more legal immigration than any other country on earth period. Illegal immigration needs to be dealt with from the people sneaking in, to the businesses that hire them.

My approach to change society and its behavior is to find and use incentives to encourage behavior that promotes the common good rather than only punishment. It makes more economic sense and is more successful at a lower cost---and better cooperation is achieved from individuals and corporations.

ABORTION: Pro Choice. Birth control education starting at an early age in schools and a home will reduce the need for abortions. Cultural attitude changes are also required, such as not being considered a man until he has fathered a child, equal responsibility of males and females for birth control. Zero tolerance of anti-abortion terrorists.

WELFARE: Safety net for those in verified need; promote wide range of incentives and job training to self-support. Prefer government-created public service jobs to maintain and improve the national infrastructure rather than hand outs except for those parents of young children and those unable to work because of disabilities.

GUN CONTROL: Background checks and licensing for all non-military type gun purchases. Hand guns for self-protection OK. Rifles for hunting should require special training. Ban automatic weapons except for availability by police-supervised gun clubs where members can use them for target practice only on site. If you want to own something other than a self-protection hand gun or a hunting rifle, then join a branch of the military where you will be trained in weapon use and have opportunities to use them.

FOREIGN POLICY: Based on homeland security for all American citizens; economic interests of all US citizens, not big corporations; use the tax laws to force multinational corporations to be good American citizens by conducting their businesses to benefit the US and not only their shareholders. Currently tax laws encourage business practices that are detrimental to the US economy and its citizens. There are few laws with incentives for multinational corporations to create and retain good high paying jobs in the US. Provide financial assistance to developing countries to improve the lives of their citizens and to promote a trade market for American products.

EDUCATION: Top priority. The GI Bill education program did more to promote the US robust economy and advance science and technology expansion than any other program in US and world history. A similar Bill, but not limited to GIs, must be enacted. The payback for enabling students to enter higher education institutions will far exceed any costs. Cease budget-eating bussing and return to neighborhood schools, preferably smaller schools. Correct education racial discrimination via housing patterns, real estate bias. Affirmative action based on race has done its job and requires change. Base affirmative action on financial need regardless of race. Strengthen the public school system by strict standards for teacher education and training, class size reductions, and pay teachers commensurate with the value they provide to our society. Strictly separate religion and state in public education institutions. As an aside, parental involvement in their children’s education is important for success. But as long as most families require two incomes to survive, encouraging parent participation in their local schools is difficult, if not impossible. It also makes it difficult for a least one parent, especially single parents, to stay home to care for children. Employers should be offered tax incentives to enable a parent to participate in their children’s education and daily care.

DEATH PENALTY: Against the death penalty---except if the convicted person requests it. I’ve been torn about how to protect prison staff and other inmates if the death penalty is not available; undecided about whether the death penalty should be applied to anyone killing someone while incarcerated.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: All laws should be written to punish polluters, including government. Tax laws are only one method of creating incentives to stop or clean up pollution. Most commercial interests could be achieved by using environmentally sound methods and, would provide lots of new jobs in such an industry. All world governments must cooperate because environmental damage knows no borders on this planet.

TERRORISM: Eliminating the root cause of terrorism is the only effective deterrent. US foreign policy and terrorism are linked and a direct cause effect. US foreign policy is a disgraceful failure and has been for decades. Unfortunately, our foreign policy has been unduly influenced by corporate commercial interests abroad than what is best for the citizens of the US or the country at issue. The old cliché “We reap what we sow” is so true. The government’s homeland security efforts and financing has gone mostly to cosmetic improvements. Sadly, we will learn that we are only a little more protected than we were prior to 9/11.

MILITARY SPENDING: Get the industrial lobby out of Pentagon budgeting. I like Donald Rumsfeld’s attempt to modernize and reorganize the pentagon and the US military establishment. The cabal of the military-industrial complex hasn’t suffered a whit despite his efforts for the obvious reasons of the powerful lobbies. The military should privatize many of it’s non-fighting jobs. Our troops must be trained as multi-taskers or separate objectives such as combat and occupation.

DRUGS: Decriminalization is the only thing that will take the profit out of the illegal drug trade. Education and treatment is the remedy. Use the tax laws to discourage the legal drug industry from it’s apparent campaign to get every citizen on one or more drugs. The congress should consider naming the Drug Industry as a disguised monopoly and prosecute it under RICO laws.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGES: Marriage can be a civil or religious contract; at the party’s choice. Heterosexual and Homosexual couples should have the choice of a contract based on marriage or civil union. All laws should be applied to both without discrimination.

hmm conservative or liberal. somebody plz catergorize me:D

abortion: totally against it other than in cases of rape/incest or the mothers life being at stake
(abortion is totally illegal here anyways)

welfare:not familiar with the structure in the U.S. but im not a big fan of it due to the fact that over here (ireland) its exploited by many. (a famous criminal who was worth millions used to make a point of collecting his 100 odd a week in dole) pisses me off. theres just to many social parasites out there!

death penalty: against it (great point calling up jc freak TIL no offense jc) life without parole in a dank urine soaked hell hole is good enough punishment for me. (also completley illegal over here)

gun law: completley illegal over here. so i dont really have an opinion on that

environment:personally i get freaked out (lose sleep freaked out) over where all the domestic rubbish goes when land fills fill up. never mind industrial waste and pollution. so im for any environmental laws that arent rediculously unreasonable

immigration:its becoming a big deal here with romanian gypsies, eastern europeans, chinese and africans coming in their droves in the last 5 odd years (quite a shock really).i suppose im not a great fan of it but then again i work with chinese folk and they re damn good workers who are willing to do jobs that many feel are below them and yet complain "dese damn immijints is stealing our jobs without learning dem de language". i hate this attitude but am for more strict measures in entrance to the country. such as language requirements etc

so what am i? by rereading my post id figure me to be a fence dwelling pussy!:D

I like this thread and decided to bump it back up to the top. It's good to see people post their views and not get flamed for it. It's especially interesting to see non-American viewpoints.

I don't see how we can privitize education. Public education is too well entrenched in our society. I know several people who are disenfranchized with public ed and home school instead. Like I said in my post, the more parents are involved, the more the child will learn. My child goes to a school with a lot of "free lunchers" and a high minority % but it is one of the best, if not THE best elementary school in the county. The PTA is also one of the most active too.

*Abortion-Pro Choice. But don't make it available through the government. Go ahead and do it, but i don't want my tax money going towards your 16yr old daughters abortion cause she got a little tipsy.

*Welfare-We need it. The deck is stacked in the upper middle class' favor. The economic level that you're born in you usually die in as well. Although I think we do need some kind of reform of it. Did anyone in the U.S. government see ODB get his welfare check as he pulled up in a limo??

*Gun Control-See second ammendment.

*Foreign Policy (briefly)We need to be a team player, not a christ figure.

*Education-I don't care what anyone says, teachers don't earn enough. It's time to start attracting gifted people into teaching for the betterment of society.

*Death Penalty-against

*Environmental Policy-As Howard Stern said the other day, "Don't eat Tuna cause there's mercury in it? How about getting the mercury out of the ocean??"

*Terrorism-Same as foreign policy. We've got blinders on thinking that our way is best. If we opened up more communication with other countries it would benefit us and them greatly. Now if terrorism still occured, which im sure it would in some fashion, punish them accordingly.

*Military Spending-Three cheers for a big, high tech army!

*Drugs-Drop the war on drugs, let the numbnuts weed themselves out of society if the choose to do so.

*Homosexual marriages-It can be wrong as soon as all of the other sins laid out in the bible are abstained from.

Anyone change their views? :)

Abortion - Against late term abortions unless mothers life is in danger. Against teenagers getting abortions without parental notification.

Welfare - Needs to be rethought. You need to help those who are in a dry spell, but those are like 100 needles in a haystack and we're funding the whole haystack. 2 yr max benifits per lifetime.

Gun Control - Armed robbers for increased gun control!!! Enforce the laws that are already on the books and crack down hard on dealers found to be supplying guns to criminals.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - Be proactive. It's a whole heck of a lot better than having to be reactive.

Education - Extremely important issue. First, however, schools have to be held accountable for the use of their funds. Way too many stories of misspent funds. Second, funding has to be restructured so it isn't so reliant on property taxes. The referendums come year after year after year and they're rightfully shot down year after year.

Death Penalty - If defendant is proven to be guilty "without doubt", public execution within 30 days of conviction. Anybody found to have tampered with evidence or to have wrongfully influenced a guilty verdict, would have their own murder trial.

Environmental Policy - Earth's been around 4 billion years, under much worse conditions than today. I agree with the need for clean water and air, but the warming people and the ozone people and the forest people need to stfu.

Terrorism - it's a cancerous appendage that needs to be amputated from the body of society completely.

Military Spending - Better keep it up, because once they get past our military, all that's behind that is a bunch of overweight, donut eatin, whining, dumbasses

Drugs - No. People are dumb enough already.

Homosexual marriages - No. Homosexuality is not a race nor is it a gender. These groups have fought for and rightfully won their rights. Homosexuality is nothing but a behavior.

Homosexual marriages - I could care less what consenting adults do. If two people are happy together, let 'em have at it.

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

Pretty identical to my views except on the Drugs.
Education needs to be enforced and rehabilitation should be mandatory when it comes to drugs, repeat offenders should be forced to take eduactional courses about drugs.

If interested, copy and complete these questions. Let's keep the bashing of each other's views under control in here (even I'll try :D )

Abortion

Welfare

Gun Control

Foreign Policy (briefly)

Education

Death Penalty

Environmental Policy

Terrorism

Military Spending

Drugs

Homosexual marriages

I guess that's a start. Add on any other issues you want....

redefining mine since I think they have altered some.

Abortion- entirely pro-choice

welfare- against

gun control- I support background checks but thats about it.

Foreign policy- War as a resort when diplomatic channels have been used up (in some situations the time table will be shorter than others) and/or the majority of the population of the targetted country supports U.S. intervention.

Education- I'm kinda on the fence here between public education and privitization of education. I do support vouchers though and I would probably reform the system at least so that parents could have more of a say in where their kids go to school because some schools are far better than others (e.g. rich white suburbs vs. poor minority ghettos).

Death Penalty- support

Enviroment- support regulations for cleaner air and cleaner fuel. Obviously no dumping of radioactive chemicals etc. in ponds and crap.

Terrorism- focus on global coalition and try to refrain from acts of terrorism that we perpetrate. Terrorism should be punished but I don't think that an all out war will have the desired results.

Military Spending- support so that our armed forces remain #1 but don't abuse the use of them.

Drugs- Legalize pot, but make it illegal to smoke pot and drive. I'd have to think some about the others.

Homosexual marriage- for it.

Abortion - I oppose all statutory crimes of the body. Period. Leave women the **** alone.

Welfare - Terms for the down and out, no lifers, ever. Unemployment should cover this fine.

Gun Control - Healthy, non-felons with a good background should be able to own. Concealed carry is typically bad news. I heartily support bullet tracking. If you don't want to be held responsible for where your bullets end up, I don't want you wandering my country.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - Is often more complex than people think. War and foreign policy is typically the means by which most people make themselves look like uneducated idiots.

Education - Public education needs to be the pride of our society, not some default for the poor. I am somewhat socialist in this area. EVERYONE needs to be moderately smart for society not to suck.

Death Penalty - In cases of *irrefutable* evidence, death penalty for murderers should be mandatory, across the board. Hammurabi had it figured out. Don't end lives unless you want yours ended.

Environmental Policy - Too much emotion in this area, not enough science. Coulds, shoulds, woulds, mights, etc are not a good enough reason to change our laws. Half the time people who are way into "the environment" get into it as a substitute for religion. News flash: your surrogate spirituality does not equate to my inconvenience.

Terrorism - Is an undeafeatable hydra. This is obvious. Bush swatted the nest in 2001 with his "with or against" declaration, and we really can't back out now. Terror is historically an excuse for aggression and imperial growth. The only thing saving America from mayhem right now is geography. If all those people burning those flags in their streets could walk here, we'd have chaos everywhere. Ultimately world government is necessary, and who better than America, but I regret that this **** had to go down while I was alive, because the big one is coming.

Military Spending - Will have to necessarily grow very large.

Drugs - Deregulate. Very petty war, the motives are transparent, treat abusers like sick people, not criminals. Much of our violence on our streets is due to the drug war, and I don't appreciate the paranoia. Prohibition already failed once.

Homosexual marriages - Stupid. Petty. Marriage is a loaded word. Eveyone knows it comes out of religion, and religious history is decidedly heterosexual. The activists lobbying for this are attention whores trying to piss off the right, and they are wasting our social resources. Civil union is a brand new term without connotation for millions and millions of devout and angry people, why not seek equivalency in civil union and get all the same rights out of different terminology? Oh that's right, they're attention whores, we already covered that.

Politics - In general turn good people into *******s. Generally and in person if someone starts talking politics, my response is STFU.

Sebstar

Abortion I'm all for it, however the aborted fetuses should be used for research. I am a scientist and I believe in the greater good. Any life is precious and if you have a reason to kill something, then at least use it for the benefit of nature/human kind.

Welfare I have no tolerance for people on welfare. People are just too stuck up to work dead-end jobs with ****ty pay. Stop paying welfare if the person hasn't found a job after 2 months or hasn't got proof that he/she actually tried to find a job. If they dont get a job after 6 months, give them something to do to earn welfare. Look up the 1euro job system they have in germany for more info.

Gun Control I think people should be allowed to own guns, however their sale should be treated like the posession and moving of hazardous wastes (in other words, every bullet, every part, has to be entered into a logbook. if you sell a weapon, you need a registered broker). Also you have to complete a given number of hours on a shooting range, perform a test (much like for a driver's license) and have a first aid certificate.

Foreign Policy (briefly) Don't really care as long as it doesn't result in some type of conflict that gets people killed.

Education Most important in our society. Simply put, there are too many dumb people in our world today. Every person should complete school to a 10th grade standard with a C+ average. Improve funds for state schools and introduce more discipline (school uniforms, etc etc). kids who are expelled from a school more than 3 times are involuntarily sent to military school.

Death Penalty Even though I did a presentation AGAINST capital punishment, I believe it is the only correct way to get rid of societies scum. Whats the point of them sitting in prison for 3 consecutive life sentences? all they are doing is wasting tax payers money. Of course you will still have innocent people die, but what can you do... As research and forensic science develops, so will the methods for correct identification.

Environmental Policy For gods sake. Okay, I'm gonna direct this right at the US of A. INCREASE. YOUR. ****ING. PETROL. PRICES. You people are complaining about $1 a gallon for petrol? It costs like 5x as much anywhere in europe. I don't know specifics but aren't there more registered cars in the states than people? As I said, I haven't looked into this for a while but i think increasing petrol prices should give people a reason to walk, use public transport or other means of transportation.

Terrorism This is a tough one. I am completely against what Pres. Bush is doing right now in the middle east. He is following his personal goals, rather than for the greater good of the WORLD. see religion

Military Spending Depends what the money is spent on. there should be a no nuclear weapons policy. The US doesn't want other countries to have nukes? Well why should they be allowed to have them? again. its tough to decide what to do here but a government should only be allowed to spend ~10% of its wealth on military. Just look at Korea and those areas. They spend like 50% of their entire budget on military... and meanwhile their economy and society goes down the ****ter.

Drugs Legalize them. People are gonna take them no matter what. People can be tested for drugs, just as they can be tested for alcohol. I don't see the point in allowing one type of drug (tobacco, alcohol), but not the other (marijuana, cocaine, heroin). If people decide to **** up their lives, it is their decision. natural selection baby.

Homosexual marriages Whatever floats your boat.

oh and my own:

Refugees I HATE THEM. australia has a huge problem with refugees. They whinge and complain 24/7 about how they are being treated like **** in our camps (even though they get good food, satellite tv, computers, game consoles etc). Well, why the F.CK did you decide to come to this country then? If its so bad here, go back to your own ****hole of a country and face whatever you were fleeing from in the first place. No tolerance policy.

If you are offended by religious debates or do not feel comfortable discussing it, then DO NOT read what comes next. If you think you are a prophet or have proof of there being a greater power then feel free to post it. My opinion on religion is based on my thoughts and observations. If you think that god will save us from destruction, then good for you.

I know it is not entirely appropriate for this discussion however, i think it plays a major part in politics these days. I mean just look at president Bush and his fanatizism about christianity.

Religion This is the biggest divider of the human race. Its not skin colour, or language. it is religion. In my personal opinion, religion will lead to the destruction of mankind. This is a hard thing to control (because people believe what they want to believe), however their should be some consensus on it. I mean there are wars over this thing. Being a scientist and atheist (i have some beliefs) myself, I can't understand why people would believe in something they cannot see, smell, hear (I know what i just said is contradictory, BUT I do not force my viewpoints and beliefs on other people. And i think in this day and age, more people are forced into religion rather than volunteer for it). They read a book thats a few thousand years old that some dude wrote who just wanted to have a laugh. thats all i see it as being. Half the beliefs in the bible are ridiculous. No sex before marriage? what the **** does that have to do with anything? No birth control? Well our bodies were designed to feel pleasure when we procreate. Not to mention protection against STDs in this day and age.

Abortion - As a form of contraception - no, but generally, fine. Mistakes happen.

Welfare - Having kids is no excuse to sit on your arse and make the rest of us pay your rent, taxes and for your cars, drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. Should be clamping down on scroungers and giving more to pensioners, who are treated shabbily by out government.

Gun Control - Not really applicable, but there should be tougher controls. Given that they're illegal, pleanty of criminals seem to get hold of them easily enough.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - It's ****e. Blair should listen to the people who voted for him (not that it was that many, mind :D)

Education - is also ****e. Telling kids who failed their exams it was a 'deferred success' is bollocks. Nobody can be good at everything. Telling kids spelling doesn't matter is pretty stupid. Get on with it and stop mollycoddling them. And bring back the cane while you're at it, give them some discipline.

Death Penalty - is illegal anyway. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't spend years appealing. Just sentence them and do it. Quick. Bring it back for treason - that'll get shot of a few home grown terrorists.

Environmental Policy - Misguided. Instead of picking on people who have no choice but to use their cars, why not pick on the big businesses who churn out the crap and refuse to invest in cleaner methods of working and materials?

Terrorism - See Death Penalty above.

Military Spending - Stop making support staff redundant, kit them out properly and stop spending it on dumb consultants.

Drugs - Need to get the people bringing it in in the first place - no point hassling a junkie once they're hooked on the stuff. Making a huge chunk of customs redundant to 'save money' is not the way to stop the stuff getting in, is it?

Homosexual marriages - Fine. Why not?

Abortion - doesn't bother me at all.

Welfare - help people who truly need it. emphasis on job training. healthcare should be afforded to all citizens.

Gun Control - we need more of it in my view. if you like to play with guns, then join the military.

Foreign Policy - less policing of other people's affairs.

Education - one of the most important investments we can make. better funding from pre-school through college.

Death Penalty - waste of money, and solves nothing. a prison sentence is real punishment.

Environmental Policy - vigorous enforcement of existing laws, more aggressive policies on conservation.

Terrorism - tighter border control. more inspections at ports.

Military Spending - should be decreased drastically. bring back the draft when we need more soldiers.

Drugs - decriminalize many of them. mandatory drug rehab instead of prison.

Homosexual marriages - opposed to it. marriage is a religous institution, and the government should not be meddling with it. offer civil unions instead with exact same financial incentives as marriage.

Abortion Completely against unless the woman is in danger of death or seriously bodily harm

Welfare: Have no problems with getting people back on their feet especially though unemployment insurrance. The truly poor (elderly, disabled and children) should be protected through food stamps and basic neccessities. But those who are able to work and do not after a year or so should be weened from the system.

Gun Control: Use both hands :) Any citizen has the right to any small arms until they lose that right by committing a violent felony. 18 over for long guns 21 for pistols for purchasing is ok with me. If you shoot someone and they were not a threat or a legitament accident, you lose your rights. Some legitament accident would be a round cooking off, weapon firing even when on safe, other person walks onto a shooting range that is wellmarked. An armed society is a polite society.

Foreign Policy (briefly) US should protect the nation by having a large military force that can destroy any force within 1000miles of the shore. Nation building should be kept to a minimum, only used when the US is going to get the most bang for its doller and all nations must include protection for the citizens similar to the Bill of Rights.

Education: k-12 guaranteed to all legal residents that want to learn. You fail the coarse, you get held back. College should be open to all and cheap colleges should be available.

Death Penalty: I hate the death penalty in most cases but would allow its use for some crimes. Mulitple murders, murders with a large amount of hate (torturing the victim), multiple violent rapists/child molestors and treason. A true life without parole and no benefits other then food and protection from the elements should be the punishment for 1st degree murderers.

Environmental Policy: I am a conservationist. Protect the enviorment, so that I can use the the parks.

Terrorism:

Military Spending

Drugs: marijuana should be legal, other drugs such as lsd and x maybe allowed. Hard drugs completely outlawed.

Homosexual marriages:None unless the people of that state allow them. If you want to disolve the state from marriage and allow anyone to get into domestic contracts then I would support that.

Abortion - A nessesary evil. I don't like it one bit, but there are a few things that make me want to keep it legal. A) Helps reduce the crime rate: less unwanted children raised by the parents who don't want them = smaller population of potential criminals. People hate to hear it, but abortion lowers the crime rate. See the works of Steven Levitt for more info on that. B) It's a womans body, not the states. C) I will always support it in the context of rape, a mothers life being at stake etc.
I would like to see abortion reduced and used as only a last resort. It's up to the state to provide proper education and free birth control. Schools should be teaching proper diesease and pregnancy prevention and encouraging the involvement of parents.

Welfare - The last reason I support abortion. If it wasn't for children, I don't know if I would support more than short term welfare. I think social services needs to keep a close eye on the children of people who are on welfare for longer periods of time. People who depend on it for a few months in their life certainly aren't the problem, most people would agree with that. **** happens, and people don't deserve to be tossed aside because of a bad break. People who are on it for long periods of time usually have far greater problems than finding a job. They should be drug tested, have social workers show up at random, and jailed if they are breaking the law. They state should not hesitate to remove a child from an abusive home; typical of welfare. Welfare to work programs have had some great success, and that is certainly an option to be explored. Single parents on welfare should only be expected to work while their child is in school. Having a parent around to raise the child is more important.

Gun Control - Guns are dangerous. We make people pass drivers tests before they can drive, guns should not be much different. Basic gun training and a background check should be required for anyone purchasing their first gun. After that, I don't care how many guns you own. Abuse the PRIVILAGE (not a right) and face serious jail time.

Foreign Policy - Intervention in foriegn affairs in multi-lateral, well thought out plans is usually a good thing. We need to help other countries with their problems sometimes, it would be wrong to just look the other way. None of this rushing into Iraq and undermining the U.N. bull****.

Education - Free and well funded from Kindergarden thur college/university. Everyone should be given 4 years paid tuition to post-secondary. This gives them the opportunity to get a diploma and equals out the advantages of the rich when it comes to good education. People should be addmited based on grades and other achievments, not on how much daddy makes. Education is a great investment in society as a whole. A highly educated society is less violent and more productive.

Death Penalty - Not until we can be 100% sure that the person is guilty. So long as there is the possiblity for error, I will never support it.

Environmental Policy - It's not a free market when corparations are free to polute as they see fit. It's a free market when companies are forced to clean up as much pollution as they create. They don't own the air, the water, or the land they pollute. They should be expected to clean up after themselves or pay some other company to do it. If we put the squeeze on companies, they will be much quicker about brining in more eco-freindly methods. This type of plan would be implimented by slowing introducing more punishments for big polluters and tax breaks for low/non polluters.

Drugs - A lot could be legalized, taxed, and regulated. Some are just too dangerous.

Homosexual marriages - Support fully. This topic is debated ad nausem, so I'm not going to give all my arguments for supporting it.

I left out a bit about terrorism and military spending. I'm just too sleepy to think about such a complex issue right now.

Abortion - Undecided, I am not a unborn fetus nor am I the woman, so I am not qualified to take a side.

Welfare - Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Gun Control - yes, MMA only on the streets please.

Foreign Policy (briefly) - More aggressive in leveling the playing field with China, please. Even more alternative energy funding please(will indirectly help foreign policy)

Education - Privatization. Those who can't afford, get sponsors (unreasonable, yes), because public education is poo poo. I would scarifice my big TV, big car, and other luxuries for my child's education, so privatization it is.

Death Penalty - Hell yeah, if guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

Environmental Policy - Only in my backyard and my state.

Terrorism - Get better intelligence please, spy everyone except me.

Military Spending - Enough already, but spending more to bring troops back is ok, but after that, please no more invasion unless its WWIII.

Drugs - Legalize, like alcohol.

Homosexual marriages - None of my damn business

Abortion: pro-choice under all circumstances, and completely in favor of stem cell research

Welfare: short-term only

Gun Control: mostly pointless (like the "assault weapons" ban), and only tends to affect people who care to obey the law in the first place

Foreign Policy (briefly): Since I have no access to the information on which to make informed judgments, I instead focus on things within my sphere of influence.

Education: a key priority; educated people are more likely to be able to meaningfully contribute to society

Death Penalty: for truly heinous murders where there is strong physical evidence

Environmental Policy: minimize pollution and conserve the wilderness areas...we have enough strip mines, logging sites, and oil wells

Terrorism: There's no good answer to dealing with this; the only ways to meaningfully deal with it are more draconian than mainstream society would support.

Military Spending: essential, but needs better oversight

Drugs: society has to choose between having more illicit dealers, or more addicts

Homosexual marriages: Civil unions seem the way to go.
