NO! dont do that please! 600 cals is gonna put your body into starvation mode, you need to eat maybe 500 below your calorie maintenance level and do cardio to lose fat. do it the healthy way, dont try to go for drastic, rapid results...it'll only hurt u in the end. PLUS, building muscle w/ weight lifting will help b/c muscle burns more cals than fat

People really make a meal out of losing fat, no need to kill yourself in the process. lol

You're talking about a Protein Sparing Modified Fast. Optifast is a commercial preparation on this type of diet. Its used with the very obese.

If you weigh less than 50 lbs then yes, its perfectly fine.

Unless you want to lose all muscle, destroy your metabolism, and store fat because your body will be in starvation mode, I would suggest increasing those calories by about 1400 a day.

I couldn't agree with you more. I changed up my diet 2 weeks ago and am taking in 400 cal less than maintainence, and I'm eating twice as often as before and I'm not hungry at all through the day.

Use a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calculator to determine the approximate number of calories you need per day, and NEVER EAT FEWER CALORIES THAN YOUR BMR. If you do no physical activity whatsoever, it is fine to eat your BMR.

600 calories is obscenely low. You will lose weight quickly, but you will lose a lot of MUSCLE in addition to the fat...which won't make you happy with the way you look. Plus, I know someone who had his jaw wired shut for two months and had to live on a sub-1000 calorie liquid diet...ended up losing 30 pounds. Gained all of it back.

Here is a BMR calculator you can use: http://www.muscletech.com/CALCULATORS/BMR/BMR_Calculator.shtml?text

EDIT: At your height and weight (I'm assuming you're male) you should eat around 2000 calories a day. If you're extremely obese, you can cut that down another couple hundred or so, but once you get into the teens for bodyfat percentage, you'll want to stay around 2000 calories or more.

Nowone should ever go less than say 1300 Kcal IMHO if they are active and lifting...and that would be a cut for a VERY small petite women for a limited period of time.

oh man!! with all this diet info at hand here on bbuilding.com how on earth can you be asking such crazy questions?????

it best you study basic nutrition like we all did at sometime and then it will become clear what 600 cals will do and not do for u.

for me i need to eat 3500 cals a day to attain my weight,to lose i would eat 500 less for a few months,to get bigger i need 500 more a day.
