Special elections aren’t the best gauges for predicting the results of an election year, but since the liberal media touted such wins as a harbinger for the GOP apocalypse, let’s pop the champagne for the clutch win in Texas last night. Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has to be happy. This special state Senate election saw a Republican win in a district that’s remained in Democratic hands for 139 years. The GOP wasn’t even supposed to be competitive in this race; they ended up winning it by 6 points. Oh, and Clinton carried this district in 2016 by 12 points. Needless to say, Democrats were a little shell-shocked (via San Antonio Express-News):

U.S. Representative Beto O’Rourke of Texas had a 2-percentage-point lead over Cruz among likely voters in the state, within the poll’s 4-percentage-point credibility intervals, a measure of precision, meaning the candidates are drawing about the same level of support.

1 poll done by phone shows Cruz up by 9. The 2nd online pole shows O'Rourke up by 2.

U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-El Paso, leads Republican incumbent Ted Cruz by 2 percentage points among likely voters, according to an Ipsos online poll released Wednesday in conjunction with Reuters and the University of Virginia. O’Rourke has been closing the gap over the last several months, but this is the first poll that puts him ahead of Cruz.

Forty-seven percent of likely voters told Reuters they would vote for O'Rourke, while 45 percent said they would cast their ballot for Cruz. Three percent said they would vote for "Other," and 5 percent said "None." The margin of error on that portion of the poll was 3.5 percentage points.

A Quinnipiac poll released Tuesday put Cruz 9 percentage points ahead of O’Rourke among likely voters. That poll was based on phone interviews, while the Ipsos poll used an online survey. But it’s trying to predict who will show up on Election Day that shifts the numbers, said Ipsos Vice President Chris Jackson.

Pretty sure the insurance plan is to manufacture dirt on republican candidates by having "unnamed person(s)" come out of the woodwork to cry rape or whatever. That or they just have someone killed.

I'm not posting this to boast about a Red Wave. I posted it to counter the argument of the Blue Wave, mainly in Texas. The facts of the primaries is Cruz received more than double the total votes that Beto received. He also received more votes than the total number of votes cast for Democratic candidates. Poles can be misleading and this happens all the time.

At this point, this is the first poll by anyone that actually has Beto ahead. I'd guess the outlier is not the reality and that Cruz would win if the election were today. It's going to be a lot closer than it should be in TX, though.

Why?Why is a statewide race that is decided by 2 or 3% closer than it should be? Does this need an explanation? Once the Dems start winning in TX, it's game over for the GOP. Republicans cannot win the White House ever without NY, CA, or TX.

Yup. The problem is that you can only use that a finite number of times before people start picking up on it. I've already seen people talking about the convenience of the timing these accusations.

The left leaning mayor in Houston is screwing over the fire department and people are turning on him.

The fire department union is fighting to be paid the same as HPD. And you could say they deserve it.

The issue is, HPD bases their pay on other large cities, what their police departments are being paid, living costs, etc.

Now, when the HFD gets offered 9% more, they stick their feet in. There is no compromise. They want equal pay "parity'.

Unless there is some kind of new tax, there isn't enough money. If the parity proposal passes, something like 900 firefighters will be laid off.
