View Full Version : Should I cut, bulk, or maintain?

Hey everyone,
Getting right to it, I am 19 years old, 193lbs currently, and have been heavily lifting for about 8 months now. I have a set goal in mind for weight, 205lbs but the beginning of summer 2019. I am walking on to my local universities football team, and the goal weight is more than adequate for the position I am trying out for. My dilemma is, I have more body fat than i feel comfortable having, mostly around my stomach. I would like to get rid of that fat, but restricting my diet caloric intake will stop my weight and muscle gains. Do I just keep bulking until a few months before my tryout? Or do I cut body fat now and try to keep fat levels low? Or something else?

Restricting calories would of course stop your weight gain but it wouldn't stop your muscle gain.

If your body fat is over 20% bulking would be a bad idea for muscle gain.
