View Full Version : best way to maneuver out of a bottom referee position?

what's up brahs. so i play in wrestling leagues and typically at the start of a match (in submission grappling) we start in a referee's position. the way we alternate is the winner of the last round takes bottom position. basically one guy (top position) is over top of the other guy, one arm around his waist, one on his elbow, etc. now i usually try maneuver out of it from lower level and i can secure a clinch hold in about 2-3 mins from the whistle. sometimes i do slip though and the opponent gets the best of me. usually if the guy is in the top referee's position, he'll almost always try to pin me in a waistlock since it's easiest. i've been told that the best way is to get on your feet and try an upper level escape and then takedown. what say you guys? any solid advice?
