The Celtics will be cursed for doing IT dirty (yes it's a business).

Breaks like that or PG13 can look worse but a clean break is often times a better recovery than a ligament injury.

From what I’m reading it’s a fractured ankle, recovery shouldn’t take the whole season for that no?

Depends on the ligaments and tendons but if only the bone was damaged then it's a 2 month healing process (a little less actually). Probably another 2 months to get his muscles back into the swing of things depending on if they give him cell tech or not.

Did you see his leg? Looked like a compound fracture. That will need some serious surgery and rehab.

How bad is it? I'm a little bish when it comes to broken bones

his upper ankle is 90 degrees to the rest of his leg, but at least the bones stay within skin (or if they didn't his socks cover it).

these clean breaks are fukking disgusting, but normally have a much faster healing process than torn ligaments. it's more of the shock factor of seeing your foot in a place it shouldn't be.

that said, he took it like like a champ.

10-17-2017, 06:19 PM
Hopefully there isnt much ligament damage from the way it rotated around. That'll have a much more serious impact on his play ability in the long run.

My brother compound fractured his leg in a similar spot a few years ago at football practice. Happened in July and he wasn't himself for almost an entire year. Granted he didn't receive the medical attention that Gordon will, but between them inserting plates, rods, screws, etc and then waiting for the bone to heal plus the rehab its gonna take him a very long time to play ball again.

Horrible to see. I cringed so damn hard.

Can't imagine the disappointment that he's feeling right now. Go through free agency and pre-season... all ready to start the next phase of your career on a new team with title aspirations... and you bust your leg in the first quarter of the first game...... bball gods are cruel.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery however long it takes.

Why can't he fly after something traumatic? I've seen plenty of people get flown around with worse trauma than that. Granted he won't be life flight'd, but he wont exactly be flying economy either now will he.

Honestly, the injury looks bad, but its better to better break a bone (even if its a compound) than to tear a ligament (i.e., ACL). This injury is pretty similar to Paul George's a few years back. He landed on the base of the basketball hoop during a summer game and f'd up his ankle real bad. Compound fracture, surgery and pins were needed. I think that happened in August and he returned to the court the following April. I suspect Hayward will miss the season but probably could play again in June. A torn ACL and recovery time is 10-12 months minimum.

I got it partly because it was groce, but moreso because our season was over 5 minutes into it.

I don't think that's the case unless I missed something cause it seems like he left on good terms. He put in his time there, never dogged it, became an all-star, and took a bigger paycheck and an actual chance to at least make the Finals. Don't see his teammates holding any grudges.

Rudy Gobbert says otherwise. He was clearly upset Hayward left. That being said nobody in the NBA wants to see one of their fellow players get injured like this.

Good news. That means the biggest hurdle will be getting over the mental part. That was on a big stage and it will be very public. It's going to be very hard to trust that leg 100% even after you're medically cleared. I think that part took PG a while.

This is the best news possible if true, I hope he takes his time, and on the bright side at least it means time for Tatum/Brown to develop filling in for him. They looked good tonight.

Even down the road a potential small lineup of Kyrie, Tatum, Hayward, Brown and Horford would be interesting. I think they would have enough length on the wings to defend pretty well and offensively would be very tough to guard. Although ideally you would want more rim protection than Horford going that small everywhere.

from reddit regarding the injury

It's more about the scar tissue that forms inside the joint. The bone heals with a hard calcium deposits that will inevitably wear down the cartilage and soft tissues of the ankle, causing degenerative arthritis over time.

Depending on the break he may need pins in there as well. That's a complex surgery that requires moving nerves and muscle to get to the bones. Not good

The guy really turned heads last season, hopefully he makes a full recovery and won't suffer any bullchit aftereffects
