View Full Version : How can Messi and Ronaldo be the GOATs, when they don't have major impact?

Portugal just won while Ronaldo was on the bench, there were also a lot games when he was a decoy and didn't do jack chit.

Same with Messi, Argentina beat Chile without him and won games with on the bench. Barcelona didn't miss a beat while we was injured.

Messi fanboys were comparing him to Lebron

LMAO if Lebron gets injured the cavaliers won't even sniff a championship. The second he left they were the worst team in the league.

That's why Maradona is the true GOAT, carried his team to a world cup.

Ronaldo does do it for club and country quite often though, his performance in the 3-3 vs Hungary to get them out of the group, and his performance in the semi-final, displayed that.

Messi can't win an international tournament with a stacked team against poverty time Chile who have literally 2 good players in their entire squad, and is made to look better than he is at club level thanks to Iniesta and Xavi, and now Suarez and Neymar.

Messi would never put up crazy numbers in the PL, Ronaldo did. But Maradona is still the GOAT. Zidane is arguably better than the pair of them too.

Well Messi is only as successful as he is because he plays for Barcelona with a supporting cast of the likes of iniesta, xavi, busquets etc. He's played in the same barcelona system since he was 14 so he has a certain level of chemistry and synergy with that team.. On argentina he's exposed for what he really is.

Id sAy ronaldo has had a fairly successful international career.

Portugal has already acknowledged Ronaldo for the inspiring speech he gave at half time to galvanize the squad.

Being the GOAT is about more than just on field performances, which both Messi and Ronaldo excel at- it's about the work ethic these players put in every day to continue to be the best and inspire their teammates to become better.

Let us look at some Ronaldo numbers:

364 goals for Real Madrid.

132 games for Portugal with 61 goals, best off all time for them.

131 goals in UEFA tournaments

122 shots at the goal in Euro tournaments, more than twice as much as anyone since 1980.

94 goals in Champions Leauge, best of all time.

Played all Portugese Euro matches since 2004.

Inspired the team at half-time yesterday with a speech, and practically took over the coaching during the extra time.

I think he's doing pretty good.

Hungary is a garbage though. Ronaldo should dominate them.

Ronaldo helped Portugal get to the final. His presence in the team is motivating - did you see him on the sidelines? People just wanna hate Ronaldo because he's an elite sportsman. Happens in every sport.

Up to the final Portugal had scored 8 goals in all their games...Ronaldo was directly involved in SIX of them...and yet he had "no major impact" according to you, lmao.

Ronaldo has more impact on his national team than Messi.

Also, ****ing lol comparing goals to show how great a player is. Using this logic, Milan Baros is better than Maldini, he scored more goals. Kahn must be ****ing crying right now.

inb4 Messi fanboys and his 5 ballon d'or although Messi himself said he would trade all for just one world cup.

Maradona/Pele/Zidane are all on another level.

Ronaldo had 3 goals, and barely did chit against more than half the teams. If he was so important Portugal would lost against France

easy answer. because most of the times he does an impact.

its 11 v 11. he can't carry every game. strikers need good passes too.

AND GOATs are just people who are on average better than everyone else. Which they clearly are

A cheating coke head? lol no, he's just the goat scumbag. Zidane is probably the true GOAT, and Ive never been a fan of the French tbh.

Ive always been more of a fan of CR7 than Messi, but the thing people always leave out when they bring up his stats is how inefficient he is. Last year he was the only player in all of Europe to take more than 200 shots. In this Euro, by the end of the group stage he took more shots than 11 COUNTRIES, most werent even on target, and he choked badly on numerous open opportunities you'd expect a GOAT to put away 9/10 times(not to mention a PK in group and now missed 36 FKs in a row) . When you're taking that many shots, yeah you better score a bit.

If a guy in the NBA takes more shots than almost half of the teams in the league, that mofo better be breaking record.

Neither Ronaldo or Messi are GOAT.

They are merely GOOT (geatest of our time) and people tend to get that mixed up with all time.

No I didn't count any penalties you dumb phaggot. Clearly you don't know chit about football. Like I said, directly involved in 75% of his team's goals leading up to the final...yet he had no major impact....OP is retarded as fuk.

This retard didn't even watch the games, Portugal scored zero penalties all tournament. Had Ronaldo converted his (which he earned himself, not someone else), he would have been involved in 7/9.

I guess when the Cavs beat the Spurs without LeBron it showed that the Cavs didn't need him, am I right?

You've never played sport in your life.

Stupid to compare futball to basketball in terms of dominance. Basketball you have 5 people on a much smaller court and a player can touch the ball every offensive possession. Futball you have 10 players + goalie and a much bigger pitch.

Of course NBA players are going to mean more.

Soccer players really don't have that much impact on their teams performance. Ronaldo and Messi are also now past their peak too. Messi in his peak performance year didn't actually play in a major international tournament.

There isn't any GOAT. Different era, different challenges, different conditions, different oppositions. The people that boldly claim other wise are either fan boys, don't have any knowledge of the sport or most likely a combination of both. They are both the best of this generation along with Iniesta, Suarez and Xavi.

But but but how else are ESPNers going to understand anything about the game? The stats, the numbers! It must make sense! GOATiest of GOATs!

Messi can't win win even when he has a stacked team. Proof he will be exposed if he leaves Barcelona or the training league.

Ronaldo on other hand brought his team to the final. All of the assists were done by Ronaldo and Nani. Not to mention, Portugal is a weak team compared to Argentina.
