View Full Version : How do average your weight to allow for fluctuations?

If you want to weigh yourself accurately but are aware of the large fluctuations that can occur, what's the best method to calculate the average and keep a close eye on it going up or down?

Because if you weigh yourself every day for a week and take an average I'm guessing that woudn't be a bad bet for what you weigh? But done over 2 weeks, 3 weeks, too many earlier measurements will be distorting the current measurement.

This is probably a simple maths question which is not my forte, not sure where best to set a cut off and then start a new effort. Or is there is a better way?

I'm trying to allow for 1-2 pounds a month increase on a slow bulk but my weight can go up and down by 2-3 times that over a week depending on what I've been eating etc. So how am I meant to know whether I'm on scehdule?

After a night out, I weigh 3-4lbs heavier for 2 days. If I don't drink enough water before bed, I weigh an extra 1-2lbs. Some of these fluxuations can be avoided completely. You just need to learn about your body. Most of the time, I'd say 85% of the time, weighing yourself in the morning, at the same time, under the same conditions, is quite accurate. If you understand how to avoid certain fluxuations. Pay attention to your weigh fluxuations after certain situations, night out, dehydrated, ate too much junk food etc.

This is my weight from starting to cut, to my current bulk. I changed a few numbers after nights out, but otherwise accurate.
