I know there's been speculation for several weeks but I just can't believe it. No job is safe these days. I always thought he was a great coach and a better man.

LSU coach Les Miles didn't come out and say it but let the Tiger Gridiron Club know Friday that Saturday's game against Texas A&M will be his last, two sources who attended the group's luncheon said.

"He didn't use those words but he made it clear that Saturday is his last game," one Gridiron club member said. Miles regularly speaks to the club at lunch on Fridays before all home games.

"He said , 'We're a second family to him and he's going to miss us, he appreciates his real friends, and then he told us good bye,'" the source said. "It was very emotional but in control."

Another source said Miles told the group he "wouldn't be seeing them at the bowl game, he would "always be a Tiger" and "thanks for a great 11 years."

Miles did not stay to answer questions, one source said.

Rumors have swirled for the past week that Miles's future was settled after losing back-to-back games to Alabama and Arkansas, and being dominated in both games. LSU made it a three-game losing streak Nov. 21 -- the school's first in 16 seasons -- with a 38-17 loss at Ole Miss.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva has declined to comment on the anonymous reports of Miles' ouster. Sources told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune that influential boosters had put together enough money to buy out Miles contract, which runs through 2019.

I'm surprised this is actually happening. I don't think this year is the right one to get rid of him. Too many job openings and not enough candidates.

Good recruiter. Not that great as an x and o guy. Think the better play would be keep les as head coach but hire a new OC and let him actually install an offense he wants. Take les's influence off the play calling
