View Full Version : Is Deandre Hopkins an "elite" reciever?

He is putting up good numbers each week and some crazy catches. Is he "elite?"

Stats: 76 catches, 1045 yds, 9 TD's

The only thing I can say that would put him out of the elite category is that he hasn't faced Richard Sherman, Patrick Peterson, other great CB's. He did face Revis and torched him on a play action with no safety help in the middle and made a one handed grab right in front of him but Revis may be on the decline. In my opinion he is an elite reciever. He makes big plays for his team every single week with a messy QB situation. He doesn't have barn burner speed but he has really improved his route running and it is showing this season. Deandre "I Fear God" Hopkins Crew

I think he's put himself in that conversation this season. Especially given the fact that he's playing with pop warner QB's.

When Houston (hopefully) drafts a QB this offseason, it will be scary to see what DeAndre is capable of.

He is very close, especially considering he has had potatoes throwing him the ball all year.

Just needs another season or two of similar production IMO.

What is going on ITT, could be the best receiver in the league right now. Look at who is throwing him the ball, hes had two catches that might have been the best I have ever seen this year.

He's the best receiver this season.

And he did face an elite corner, he just got shut down by Josh Norman

depends on what your definition of "elite" is.

This year, considering that team, hopkins has played out of his mind and i believe it takes elite talent to do what he is doing there.

i will need to see a bigger body of work to call him an elite player in this league. He's definitely getting there.

I just want to reiterate that Tahj Boyd had DeAndre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, and Martavis Bryant, and Andre Ellington at the same time.

aka The Garbage Time King

Are you retarded? Calvin Johnson and Deandre Hopkins are on this guy's list. Those are garbage time stat compilers putting up big numbers on horrible teams that have to pass every play because they're falling behind big early on. 9/10 of the Giants games have been either wins or extremely close losses.

However, nothing better than to beat an idiot with some simple stats:

QUARTER = 1 20 278 13.9 3
QUARTER = 2 18 260 14.4 2
QUARTER = 3 14 167 11.9 2
QUARTER = 4 11 158 14.4 1

Surely, even someone as stupid as you can understand these simple numbers and see how inaccurate you are.

He leads the league in targets and averages 1.3 YAC. Far from the best receiver in the league.

Getting targeted by Mallett and Hoyer is like me tallying up all the 8+/10s I've made eye contact with as "almost bangs".

He still leads the league in targets and isn't a play maker with the ball in his hands. He's a good receiver, but definitely isn't elite.

I doubt anyone here is a member, but I would be interested in seeing the amount of his targets that were catchable, I think PFF is the only one to track it but I'm not sure. True on the YAC though, while the QB placing the ball in a spot that allows for YAC plays a role, he is below other WRs with QBs that aren't world beaters.

I don't think he's the best reciever in the league but I think this season he is proving he can be in that first tier. He isn't really a YAC guy. He has the ability to be one but he hasn't been that this season. What makes it more impressive to me is that the Texans are getting no TE production and their other recievers have been pretty nonexistent except for a few plays here and there and they have no running game. They've asked him to carry the offense and he's done it. He's having a great season but I'm curious to see what he looks like with an actual qb.

Now I see why you're salty about the Giants. I will LOL when Elisha Nelson Manning and GOATdell BeckHAM take down Brady and Bellicheat for the 3rd time again this year. You know you were getting cold sweats last game as the memories flashed through your mind.

As a Hopkins fantasy owner, I have to say that his numbers have been consistently ridiculous. I can count on him for 18+ points a week, every week.

Depends on how you define elite. Imo there are only 2 receivers that I'd say are clearly better than him (Brown/Julio). So yeah I'd say he is elite.

I have him in fantasy and he definitely puts up a lot of stats in the fourth quarter/garbage time, but he looks like a pretty damn good receiver. Can't fault him for playing on a sh*t team too much.

If he had a better qb they would also likely be spreading the ball more and not force feeding him targets at such a high rate. From what I've seen with Fitz in AZ the bigger bump from a mediocre qb to a great one is seen in TD numbers for WRs, yards not so much. Fitz has put up 1400 yards with absolute sh*t at QB and 1400 with Kurt and he's on pace for the same with Carson this season.
