Most of my vegetables I boil but for some reason I like spinach better raw than cooked. Anyone else agree? also is raw spinach safe?

Yes, I use it in salads or sandwiches. I also put it on stew/curry and let it wilt from the heat of the food.

There have been some cases of contamination of spinach with E.coli and Salmonella - due to use of contaminated irrigation water. Carefully washing spinach should prevent any infection.

A long-term consumption of huge amounts of raw spinach can cause hypothyroidism.

Have it raw 90% of the time, mostly due to laziness.

Raw or wilted like Suffolk punch. Ditto for arugula or baby kale.

Cooked spinach has a fishy flavor to me that grosses me out.

Haven't found a way to eat spinach I don't like. It's great raw in a salad, and is almost always available fresh, even in Winter when other, more-traditional salad greens are either unavailable, look bad, or are just too expensive due to scarcity.

It's really good in egg dishes such as frittatas and egg casseroles.

As a stand-alone side dish, I enjoy it sauteed in olive oil that has had a crushed clove of garlic added, along with some thyme and S&P. Some sliced mushrooms go well in here too.

If you haven't already tried it, give the above saute a try. Also, try sprinkling on some cider vinegar.

how do you wash spinach?

I use a "salad spinner" with a steady stream of cold water into it. There are a dozen different models available, and make an easy job of washing/drying salad greens.

how do you wash spinach?

When I lived in Asia, we used a vegetable soap to wash all our veggies due to relaxed or non existent pesticide policies.

But for most areas, you should be fine with a little rinse with water.

Salad spinner, srs a great investment. Use mine all the time.

Im like Popeye, Ill eat it any which way. Ive got a 10oz bag on the truck seat right now, eating out of it like a bag of chips.

I prefer spinach wilted , as would anyone with an advanced palate, preferably with olive oil and garlic/shallots. Usually used as a bed for a main course. Or in an omelette.

That said, i do occasionally eat it raw on sandwiches or in salads.

Eat it raw quite often. Salads, sandwiches, even burgers with melted cheese over it. Love spinach even out of a can.

I only eat it raw.

Fills me up way more than cooked spinach.
