Former military personnel easily fit into the CHP's workforce and adapt well to our paramilitary work environment.

1. Are you willing to work in a para-military organization, operating under a structured chain-of-command?

The California Highway Patrol is often described as a "paramilitary" department, and that is true.

Thanks Obama

I don't get people's beef with this.

This isn't 1956 anymore. Cops aren't dealing with Little Johnny stealing candy bars anymore. They are dealing with high profile criminal organizations with automatic weapons and submarines now. Srs. Fuking submarines!

If only there was some military organization that could guard our coasts from narco-submarines.

Do away with the fail drug laws and the violence from the cops and the dealers will go away.

I'm sure the Coast Guard would have done a fantastic job dealing with the North Hollywood shootout.

I feel sorry for you american brahs. You have been brainwashed to think that it's okay for your police to train like military and kill your citizens as long as they seem dangerous. LOL!

Let's reveiw;

Deaths caused by cops in 2014:

1) U.S. With over 400 deaths
2) Germany With 20 deaths

What?? You mean the rest of the world manages to police its people without killing them?? That's insane. Wake up Americans.

Inb4 Obamas fault. Inb4 Fox News told me otherwise

Guns on the streets and in the homes of America: 200,000,000+

Just give the cops tazers bro, I'm sure everything will be fine & dandy. Send in a brigade of social justice warriors to respond to reports of homicide in Detroit, arm them with pepper spray. Take them out like a humane person would!

Cops should not be trusted with a water pistol, much less a pepper spray or a tazer.

If you aren't familiar with the capabilities of the USCG, you probably shouldn't make your limitations known.

True, being a cop was a lot more dangerous in 1956. Back then you had to have some testicles.

Do you understand that EVERY police agency on the planet is a "paramilitary" organization?

Let's reveiw;

Deaths caused by cops in 2014:
1) U.S. With over 400 deaths
2) Germany With 20 deaths
US Population: 320,000,000
Germany Pop: 80,000,000

After we get past your deceptive tactic to use raw numbers between countries with 4x population difference, the next question would be the nature of each of those deaths. How many were in defense of self or others against a violent criminal?

Critical thinking has never been your strong suit nutsy. The fault lies with the system. You are just a peon, not a decision maker. This is literally as idiotic as "if you're against welfare you hate the poor".

In 1956 the homicide rate in the US was 4.1 per 100k.

In 2012 it was 4.7 per 100k.

Correlation fallacy. Because organized crime existed in 1956, it must be completely the same thing as it is today.

Here is a 43 page research paper that was presented to congress recently detailing exactly how organized crime has evolved and changed over the last 20 years, let alone 50. It also details the challenges that change has presented law enforcement. I don't expect you to read it, but I do expect you to realize you are taking the wrong side in this debate.

Edit: almost forgot the link

Ok so my reply was to the fact that you said cops in 1956 were only fighting "Johnny" with his candy. You are now changing your position so I will read that article later.

Because gross aggregate comparisons are like, totally legitimate (and who was rate vs. total amt?).....

Lol.

I talked to a CHP guy awhile back. I saw the AR in his car and we were bull****ting. I asked him the last time he shot it. His answer: "I don't know, it's been forever." I asked him if it was even zeroed. Him: "Nope."

Paramilitary indeed.

Also, one of my friends just went through their interview process. He hadn't run in 4 months and came in 2nd place with something like 700 candidates applying. It was well over a 6 minute-mile pace. He also said a solid portion of the guys couldn't get over the 6 foot wall.

I'll start a paintball team and we'll call ourselves paramilitary. Just lol. You can't take this **** seriously, people's idea of what they are and reality are two different things.

Germany's population is 80 million, so you can multiply their killings by 4 and get a more accurate comparison.

If the actual military becomes lax in its training will it no longer be a military?

I've seen fat decrepit career military before. Granted it was the national guard, but still.
