In VA going 15 over means you get reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor crime, not a moving violation. Depends on the judge but some have been known to give one day of jail for every mph over 85 mph.

Yeah man, Virginia don't play around. Every time I drive through there going south it's like the cops are waiting for you around every turn, hiding behind every bush and sign, etc. And they are more than happy to give you the max ticket they can. They hate foreigners driving through their state and will target you. It's like their entire state budget is written off speeding tickets.

Excessive speed can. An old girlfriend and I were driving to D.C. and she was driving almost 100 MPH in a 65. Which was in construction on top of that. Officer flat out told her he could arrest her on the spot but, you know, cute white girls get away with more.

everything i've read or heard tells me that DC/virginia is the absolute worst place to get busted speeding...like tickets for 5 or 6 over

Can confirm. Just had court a couple days ago for a reckless ticket; 83/60 R/D. I'm an idiot. Was late for work, the flow was around 70'ish, and I was passing someone on the left. Boom lights.

Thank god my licence wasn't suspended. Luckily for me on my first court appearance (just went to get a continuance while completing a drivers safety course) the judge suspended any possible jail time.

The lady before me was going 90/60 on a suspended license and got two 90 day sentences. One for the speeding, one for no licence. Judge suspended most of the sentence but she still has to serve 20 fukking days despite it being her first and only ticket.

Y'all seriously have no idea. Honestly if I didn't grow up here and wasn't familiar with all of their phaggot hiding spots I'd probably be without a license right now. The amount of speed traps on the interstate don't even compare to the amount on the normal roads. I have worked as a server (at the oceanfront nonetheless) for several years now so I usually get off when the bars close around 2am. I couldn't even tell you how many times I get pulled over just for a DUI check (not even factoring in all the check points on tourist weekends). Driving home completely normally (not speeding, driving potato'ish, etc) and lights behind me. Cop walks up, asks why I'm out late, and sends me on my way after 2 seconds.

Cliffs for both of my posts: speeding, no matter the reason, is just not worth it around here. Routinely see pictures of tickets pop up on FB/Instagram that show 5 (or less) mph over the limit in like a 55 or 60. Dead srs. Fukking scumbag cops.

NOVA crew checking in. Got a reckless last year on 95, but it got bumped down in court to speeding because it was my first ticket ever. Only had to pay like $60.

I see people getting tickets a lot around here, but nobody I know has gotten one for going less than 10mph over. Think it gets a bit exaggerated around here.

Think it depends on the where you get busted. Know brahs who have 90 in 65 and just a ticket/fine and know brahs who have 90 in 65 and days in jail.

In VA going 15 over means you get reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor crime, not a moving violation. Depends on the judge but some have been known to give one day of jail for every mph over 85 mph.

anything 20 or over in VA is an automatic reckless. 80mph and above is reckless in VA, no matter what the posted speed limit is (including 70mph on I95). Reckless in VA does not usually include jail time, but obviously it depends on the judge. It DOES include an automatic $2,000 fine, + The cost of the ticket, + court fees.

Most of the talk about Virginia tickets is greatly exaggerated. The Judge ultimately decides what's worth a reckless and what isn't. Cops also have the ability to write a ticket WITHOUT applying a reckless, but from what I understand they are told to apply the reckless charge and let the judge decide. A reckless charge is in ADDITION TO the speeding ticket.

I've lived in VA all my life and managed to avoid any speeding tickets, a lot of that is due to good luck and being smart about speeding, but it will probably catch up to me.

Went from 16-23 with no tickets. Within a span of a year I got 3. It catches up to you, lol.
