View Full Version : Carson Palmer signs 3 year contract extension

A solid start to this year is really paying off for Palmer who looked like he was on his way to retirement when he was with the Raiders. This extension basically guarantees he will retire a Cardinal, but is he worth this much?

Contract terms were not disclosed by the Cardinals, but sources confirmed to ESPN that the deal is worth $50 million in total. It is guaranteed through 2015 and includes a guaranteed $20.5 million during that span, a source said. The average salary range is between $15.9 million and $16.6 million.

3 year, 50 Million extension for a 34 year old QB? I kinda feel like they should have saved that money to see what unfolds with AP and even Foles(played at UofA) if Sanchez performs well. Palmer is good, but not like the veteran Warner was for them.

Personally I would never extend contracts or do any kind of negotiating/ deals with my players mid season if I were a GM, but I suppose he has earned it.

He hooked up with a good offensive mind in Bruce Arians, is what happened.

Sounds like Arizona can take it year by year, so it's a good deal.

Superbowl will be in the AZ this year, refs will be on the cards side all season. Along with having a great team with a great coach = superbowl.

Lol, what. I remember when Palmer used to be amazing back at Cincinnati, but he's fairly average now, the Arizona Cardinals just have an insane supporting cast around him and have been playing out of their minds

best? lets not go potato now.

carson is having a good year. not a spectacular year, but a good year that is frankly overachieving from having some top notch coaching going on right now. good for them they deserve it after getting the shaft last year

Palmer in my opinion has some of the best deep balls in the game on par with big ben, flacco etc. Look back to his cinci days when he had speedy WRs.

best record for a qb last 2 years. top10 in every passing category, hasn't lost a game this season. i think the only potato in here is you. No one got shafted, the playoff teams aren't picked by committee and they were the 3rd best team in their division.

Carson Palmer played well the last half of last season and is playing good this season, the team is like 14 and 3 including last year. He is #1 QB this year on 3rd downs. If you compare his stats the last 14 games or so to Warners years here they are very similar and in some areas Palmer is actually better. He fits in here very well and if they will keep on winning, he will be one of the reasons for it. It is a good signing for the Cardinals considering the garbage qbs they have had the last 3 or 4 seasons. Haters gon hate

lol Cards just goofed hard. Why give that much money to an average QB? I would have understood this deal if Palmer was the driving force behind the Cardinals this season.

What's it with teams settling for mediocrity? Is there no ambition in the nfl anymore?

It's not a lack of ambition but rather a lack of available talent. The pool of quality QBs in the NFL is fairly weak these days.

I was surprised by this deal as well. Palmer playing well is more of a case of him being surrounded by great talent than him being really good. He's not a bad QB, but he's not a great one either.

Works for me, ever since the cards offense 'clicked' at the midway point last season he's been playing pretty damn well.

Think you wait til offseason to make this deal.

Also 34? He's going to play til 40 like Bret farce?

He's 34 on a 3 year contract that they can easily get out of after the first year. He doesn't have to play til 40.

That holding call against him when he got pulled down pissed him off lol. Responds with a INT next play then a pick 6 the following possession, just keep playing him the tape of that play every week right before the game starts lol

This. How do Cardinals fans not realize this?

Stanton can game manage and make big throws but he's not better than the Carson Palmer AZ has seen the last 16 games. Drew only completed more than 50% his passes once when he played and it was 54%. I think BA and Tom Moore know a bit more about QB play than the armchair misc GMs so I'll trust their judgement. Might not matter if he shredded his knee though.
