Grantland did a video series on him earlier this year. The Finish Line (http://grantland.com/the-triangle/steve-nash-at-the-finish-line/) ...people ask why he won't retire and he says point blank "it's about the money". At least he's honest...they offered him gauranteed money and he accepted. I'm pretty sure none of us would walk away from millions of dollars if we were legally entitled to them. It's up to the front office to make good business decisions.

99% sure there's a clause in his contract that says he only gets his salary if he plays a certain amount of games. He won't be making nearly as much money this year as people seem to think.

O lawd really? So, they could potentially save money? But they wouldn't be able to sign someone with that saved money though huh?

Can L.A. still deal him this season as an expiring?

Spill512
10-23-2014, 08:31 PM
Das it.

Nash literally didn't do chit for us his entire contract lmao. Chronically injured from day one. He's also the reason we went with D'Antoni. Mitch said something to the effect of how the triangle wouldn't utilize Nash and that effected his decision. Whatever man. I can't even be mad at Nash. Guy's a legend.

They should be able to at least sign someone either way for the MLE through the disabled player exception.

I know last year there was talk of medical retirement if he didn't play at least 10 games, which would have allowed them to not pay for this year, but I'm not sure how it works now since he's in his final year.

Yea i mean, even if this Nash expiring has any value, it's more valuable for the Lakers to get it off the books after this season.

If Nash officially retires before the season or early in the season, anyone know the contract details?

It depends. Since he's injured, the contract is guaranteed unless there's something in the contract stating differently. In general, teams and players negotiate a buyout or the player waives their pay.

im sure a small town like LA doesnt have nearly as many doctors or specialists as Phoenix. The climate in arizona is beneficial but steve nash being old has nothing to do with some magical training staff in PHX.

Respect what Nash did as PG. He was one of the funnest players to watch.. but he fukkin ****ed the Lakers over big time this past couple of years

but ehhh... I understand.. who wouldn't want to take the money, and to be fair.. Nash was still great in 2011 with Phoenix. I'd do that trade if I didn't have hindsight.

Everyone knows MVP really isn't most valuable player.. it's more like best player on the team with the best regular season record.

If Indiana finished with the best record in the NBA last season, PG would get mvp over KD srs, it's that predictable

Only Spurs are the exception to the rule because that team is too damn unselfish. No one player on that team stands out because everyone on that team is selfless. Even choosing a final's MVP was hard to do.

I honestly didn't know whether it would be Kawhi or Timmy this year. They both deserved it.

Very true..... I also think if Amare stays healthy he will play good enough to get overpaid for 1-2 years by somebody.... I'm thinking Amare is going to have a 17.4 5.2 1.3 .8 year (pts, rebounds, assts, blocks)

No i just think its stupid to put the blame on nash leaving the PHX medical staff. Like what player would not go through the effort to seek the best medical attention and would be unable to in LA? Its obvious nash puts more effort into rehab than most. He is just getting old. On a semi related noted, the medical staff myth comes from grant hill praising the staff right?

The training staff here isn't in LA it's still seen as unorthodox and unconventional.

I can't believe you are so unaware.

Amare staying healthy, Shaq getting an all star year at 50(he thought our staff was unlike anything he ever seen, didn't he play in LA? Hmm), hill playing every game in a season, Nash turning in his best years over 30, our players missing less games than every other team. Bill Simmons accusing our training staff of injecting PEDs.

Phoenix has always been known for its training staff/medical, maybe Nash could have lasted another season but dude is just flat out old. Like Phoenix didn't know what they were doing trading him away, Phoenix training staff probably said this guy is done ship him out now while other teams think he might have something left.

Those feels... 😰😰😰

Lol EVERYONE involved with the Lakers fukks over their chances of being decent.

*Jim "I'll never be half the man my father was" Buss scorning Phil "I need more fingers to hold all these rings" Jackson for motherfukking Pringles.

*Kobe "pay me a fortune and fukk getting anyone else here with our cap space gone" Bryant.

*Mitch Kupchak signing Nash at 38 YEARS OLD to a fully guaranteed 3-year, 27-million dollar contract. (That's what Steph Curry was making lol)

With everyone else in the Lakers organization going full potato, why shouldn't Nash join in on the fun?
