I've read a lot of supposed scientific benefits (both proven and unproven) of taking fish oil but I would love to hear personal stories.

I've been taking fish oil for the past year after this buff guy told me to. I spend a lot of money on it and I'm not sure whether I'm actually getting anything out of it.

so... what do yOU get out of it?

Helps getting omegas in you, helps for joints and its healthy to take. i like the bodybuilding.com brand and they are cheap. about $14 for 100 caps and its one a day. can't go wrong. if you eat enough fish/tuna fats then you might not need it. its personall preference i guess just like taking vitamins, they say its good and needed but how can we really be sure :)

If you'd like some evidence for positive effects and doses used in studies for various improvements, here are some videos I uploaded to YouTube:

The benefits of EPA/DHA intake are various and well documented. Not hard to look them up on ncbi. A good fish oil product is pretty inexpensive so you shouldn't be spending much money, and if you are, you dun goofed. 2g combined EPA/DHA intake for me via fish oil. I don't eat fish, hence supplementation.

This ^^^

Although I still get a fair amount of fish in my diet, at the price/serving & benefits of a bit of additionaly intake, it makes too much sense not to.

lol, guys reading the label and taking one a day, "fish oil is fish oil" uh,no

3 -4 g of epa/dha a day, if you have sh!t fish oil you need to take 20 caps a day

if you have good fish oil , it's 4

read the labels, most fish oil is 600-800 mg of fillers per pill

No, no its not. Those ****ty caps you get from Costco are 1g of fat each, but only 25% of that is epa and dha...

Some of the caps sold on bb.com are still 1g of fat each, but have 750mg of epa and dha! That is over 3x as much of what you actually want in the fish oil pill! Get it now?

Wow, so glad I found this topic and your posts about the BB.com fish oil. The best one I could find in stores is 21st Century Alaska Wild Fish Oil, which has 3g fat, 2520mg Fish Oil Concentrate, 650mg EPA, and 450mg DHA. And the serving size is 3 softgels. All the other ones I found in store only had like max 400mg combined epa and dha.

The MusclePharm is 1g fat, 1000mg fish oil fatty acids, 400mg EPA, and 300mg DHA. Serzing size 1 gel.

Definitely ordering the MusclePharm fish oil pills once my current supply runs out.

All the health benefits of the Omegas, since I don't eat fish as often as I should (only 2-3 times a week at most). I'm about a hundred years old, and I need something to help my janky joints so I can continue to weight train.

Fish oil caps are dirt-cheap; if you're spending a lot of $$$ on them, find a different company/supplier.

Good find, that is a really good deal. That has more EPA and less DHA than the MusclePharm brand and more total omega 3 fatty acids. Does anyone know off the top of their heads the differences between EPA and DHA? I'm definitely going to research this later today after work and school.

Great deal.

Personally I'd capatilize on the Buy 1 Orange Triad, Get 1 OxiMega FREE deal ; http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/clabs/orangetriad.html

Both products are 3rd party tested & approved, and Controlled Labs has always put out quality products at competitive prices.
Not to mention this stack gives you a full basis insurance for not just heart/cardiovascular health of the fish oil, but you get the added micronutrients + joint support of Orange Triad.

How about either backing up your statement or retracting it?

Lots of companies claim they have a “quality” fish oil, but what is important is 3rd party testing.

i like the bodybuilding.com brand and they are cheap.

I have repeatedly asked one of their reps (CountryMike) for proof of 3rd party tests that he claims they have, but I have never received them.

Might be talking about this

*****://labdoor.com/review/now-foods-ultra-omega-3-fish-oil

I take a single capsule daily of NOW Ultra omega 3 because it contains the highest amount and best ratio of EPA/DHA for value.

According to the upper limits 2x a day should be tolerable unless you're consuming another food containing mercury and PCB.

Additionally, the EPA and DHA measured were both higher than what is displayed on the label.

If you're posting that based on my request, it does not back up the claim I was referencing, nor is it in regards to Omega-3 supplements which are being discussed.

why don't you do your own research....it was specifically their salmon, shark and cod liver oil that were in question but they all actually passed other standards except for the silly prop 65...of course, consumer labs has a habit of cherry picking and delivering the drama to keep subscribers...also their krill had high levels of oxidation, but it was traced back to the supplier, neptune.

when you're a company of that size, putting out literally thousands of different products, mistakes are bound to happen. and let's not forget consumer labs isn't free of controversy either (whether testing error or methods).

also, in terms of source naturals fish oil, you have to realize that the pill size is 1.25g and not the typical 1g. so the actual EPA/DHA concentration level is ~63%. hardly the highest i've seen.

Maybe he was referring to the PCB and mercury content being flagged as a warning.

I personally am not concerned unless taking 3+ capsules a day.

In addition I find that PCB tolerable upper limits vary a lot and the one used on that site is the most conservative of them.

They gave it a B+ for quality and ranked it 6th in quality out of 30 tested.

MusclePharm got a B and came in 10th. Maybe it's time to wait to see if he bothers posting what his evidence is for it being "one of the most contaminated" instead of speculating?

I take it for it's anti-inflammatory effects.
I was taking it for a while after a chronic injury. I felt a noticeable difference when on it, since then I've just continued taking it.
It's super cheap.
