OK, so yesterday I celebrated my 50th birthday by going down to Amarillo, Texas to take on the challenge. The Big Texan Steak Ranch offers a challenge for anyone to attempt to take on the 72 ounce steak, which includes a baked potato, side salad, shrimp cocktail, and dinner roll, all in 60 minutes or less. If you succeed, you get the meal free. If you fail, which I was told 96 percent of folks do fail, you are out close to $90.00 after taxes etc.

So I took on the challenge. I know, this goes against all bodybuilding principals, but I have always wanted to attempt this and it was a one time deal.

It was painful and difficult, but I managed to finish the entire challenge in a time of 59:07, with 53 seconds to spare!

By the way, this was a total of approximately 5,000 calories and 430 grams of protein in less than one hour!

Needless to say, I won't ever do this again but it made by 50th birthday a very memorable one and it will be something I will never forget.

I know this sounds crazy but I really feel like my lifetime of bodybuilding helped me to pull through this. Most people in the restaurant thought I had no shot because I'm not a huge 350 pound tub of lard but it's those guys that usually struggle with this challenge and it seems like the smaller folks (I'm 198 pounds) that are active and in good shape really seem to pull this off.

Almost 24 hours have passed since the big event and I feel fine. I've only had a couple protein shakes but I'm none the worse for wear. Has anyone else tried anything like this?

Congrats, and happy belated. 5,000 kcal and >400g protein from steak... you'll be digesting that chit for days.

There's a competitive eating thread in the Nut Misc section, post there.

I've always wanted to take on a big eating challenge.
Sounds like that one would be too much for me.

Sounds like a great way to celebrate your 50th!

Congrats!
