Why do they give you the temperature in the shade?

I'm not outside in the shade. I'm in the sun.

I'm sure in some magical troll land every thing is shady and you can travel from point A to B on a yellow brick road on a shady path. But this is reality. Give us the real temperature.

End rant.

It's fuarkin hot.

Heat Index is for in the sun. Shade is actual air temperature.

My truck said 108 as I was driving.

My phone says its only 94.

Somebody's lying.

Trucks made in USA. Phone's made in Japan.

Batman wears those pretty gay tights and that even gayer mask (although I do think his ears are pretty cool), so I doubt he's gonna be able to tell ya what the temperature really is.

The temperatures here, have actually been below normal. This is the first 100 plus degree day we've had since March I think. That there drought y'all have going on in so-cal, probably isn't helping any.

Yeah, probably not of matter of if, but when. We went through a severe drought year before last. I was very surprised that we didn't have as many brush fires as we did.

Let me apologize in advance for posting a serious response. I'm no scientist, but here's what I remember from various Environmental Control classes in college. And that was a long time ago:

Official temperature must be measured in the shade to get the accurate AIR temperature. If a thermometer is placed directly in sun, it gets radiant heat transfer from the sun. Radiant heat can make surfaces much hotter than the air temperature. Until they invent a way to measure temperature without using a device that has physical mass (because mass collects radiant heat), then official air temperature must be measured in the shade. Even a thin wire placed in the sun to measure temperature will collect radiant heat and thus will not give you the actual air temperature. This is why we sometimes see bank signs showing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees higher than the official temperature -- because that's the temperature of their measuring device, not the air around it.

Warm here too in the Seattle burbs Cowboy. Right in the middle of a 90 degree week long heat wave. On the bright side...I'm picking fresh green beans and tomatoes out of the garden a month ahead of schedule. Going to be a bumper crop this year...

Hindsight is always a twenty/twenty thing, as the saying goes.

Last major tsunami in the Fukushima (ironically, the name means 'Lucky Island') was about a thousand years ago. They had a stone marker on the shoreline showing how far inland the tsunami of long ago went. I guess no one bothered reading it this time...
