View Full Version : The Dismissal

For those that followed, I was fired from my job for threatening a coworker. I'm pretty drunk right now, but here is how the situation went. My direct supervisor ( who didn't want to fire me in the 1st place and Dr.***** had called me and told me of the termination, told me to turn my truck in at one our sister stations in Robstown. When I got arrived, there were two sheriffs cars and my former supervisor(who I have the utmost respect for) to take my truck and belongings. We shook hands and then gave each other a big OL' bear hug. He cried, which made me cry , and then the cops left. I asked him why they were there, and he told me that Dr. - wanted them there. He told me I may be 62, but I didn't need a police escort to kick your ass or keep you in line, and he was right. He took me out to eat and paid for some expensive seafood, and then we drove out to the country to look at the crops. It really made me feel good when he told me we lost a valuable man in the field.

Bill, you ARE a good man.

Find something new, get that swag back--not like you ever lost it--and get on with things. You'll rise above this.

Sorry to hear about the dismissal, and hope you are going to be ok. Hopefully it will be an opportunity to do something else you enjoy.

It is nice that the colleagues that knew you well recognised your contribution to the job.

Sorry for the whole thing brother. It's good to know that co-workers and supervisors know, appreciate, and respect your work over the years. You'll get through this. It hurts just reading about it, but you're going to be fine!

Aw, sounds like a bittersweet ending. In light of lawsuits, i guess i understand the need to let you go, but a tough deal just the same.

Although it sucks now and you're gonna need some time to process the events, I believe it's going to lead to a new opportunity and will even raise your 1RM by 15%.

Keep you chin up my friend; you're one of the good guys. :)

Looks like they recognized that this one moment was not all of who you are. They just had no choice.

Stay strong.
It will be difficult in the next few weeks, once the dust settles. But you'll get through it and come out stronger on the other end. And like other said, after 23 years, this is your opportunity to do something different and perhaps better with your time.

I have been fired lots of times. You well learn to enjoy it after a while. Not being scared of it makes it easier for you to voice your opinion to the boss.

I dont care much for bosses and I think might have actually had 1 in my life that I respected so getting fired is bound to happen from time to time.

I got locked up in 1980 for assaulting a former boss who witheld some $$ that was due to me. Not one of my finest moments and he dropped the charges. Been at the same place now (through many name changes) for going on 33 years now.

Certainly. If one worked in a large office building, there would more than likely have been 'security' to escort you out! :(

what kind of p*ssy tells the boss that he was threatened by a coworker ?

I couldn't respect someone that would need help to bail himself out of a one on one situation with someone else.

I've seen good people get the shaft because of a "perceived" thread to office safety. In one case, the "victim" didn't snitch, but another person in the office did. The company had little choice under the law to suspend the guy, then later they fired him. Safety in the workplace has almost become like a zero tolerance thing, and the company deals with it quickly and hardcore like a runaway train.

Yep. Give somebody a pass on threatening behavior and later they beat the crap outta someone then there is going to be a big payday for the victim.

Back in the early 80's when I was just a young man, I worked for a company called Burrowes Industries ( they are defunct now ). But they had a policy of hiring ex cons wherever possible. There was some scary mthr fkcrs that came through that place. We had one guy that had just done 20 or 22 years ( cant remember exactly ) for 1st degree murder.

Anyway, there was one day I was walking between the machines and saw this guy Frank ( murderer ) from behind one of the machines swinging a broom handle up and down. I walk around to ask him what he's doing and here's the Supervisor (old Billy we used to call him ) laying on the ground getting the crap beaten out of him.

So I grab Frank and drag him off old Billy and he calms down. Old Billy gets up, head covered in blood and says to Frank, do that again and you'll really be pissing me off. That was it. Billy goes and cleans himself up and it's back to work.

This was the same place that my left index finger got chopped off in one of the unguarded machines. I pick my finger out of the ice water tank it fell into, go up to the Supervisor and say, look what I did. He reaches in his pocket, pulls out his car keys and throws them at me and says, better get yourself to hospital. So I drove myself to hospital making sure I spilled as much blood as possible on the supervisor's crappy vinyl car seats.

On another, but related note, those ex cons could make some damn fine timber outdoor furniture.

Ahhhhh, those were the good ol' days LOL

Get Back Up
You cannot prevent every setback. However, you can make it a priority to recover quickly from them and get back on track. In every effort there will be interruptions, disappointments, even some disasters.

Your recovery time depends largely on what you decide to make it. The time and energy you put into anger and self pity will serve mainly to prolong the time it takes to get going again.

Accept that the setbacks will come and when they do, decide to move quickly past them. Find something positive in each one, and that will serve to get you focused again on progressing toward your goal.

Winners and losers both stumble. The winners are the ones who quickly get back up and keep on going.

Now since you have some time off come hang with in in Bama! We can go for a motorboat ride :D

This. We just had somebody fired for threatening coworkers. In his case they even gave him a second chance, but he was so frigging stupid he came in the following day and did it again. So out of the door he went.

Sorry for OP losing his job, it sucks. I hope it will help him learn to keep his cool the next time something like this happens.

What you described we affectionately call in AA [Euphoric Recall}, Personally, I call it good times, for the most part, where common sense generally prevailed and was utilized no drama or non sense, simpler times with less grief IMO, To coin a phrase Shi$ HappensI guess it could be called Euphoric Recall Tom. Back in those days we used to do a lot of stupid things, some funny, some not so funny, but when you had a problem with somebody you used to sort it out between you. Would I want to go back to those days in that place today? No, I don't think so. Age tended to mellow me.

That company I mentioned was an exception though. There were some real nut jobs that went through that place and some just down right dangerous people. I could write a book about the stuff that used to go on there, but nobody would believe it. Strangely enough though, I lasted 10 years in the place and still affectionately call them good times.

While now in 2014, I think it was an extreme place and the laws were not so tough, these days I think its gone to far the other way and you cant look at somebody else sideways without getting a warning.

I should mention that back then, if somebody said the words Human Resources, nobody would know what the hell you were talking about.
