Just a kind reminder that we, as Americans, should be ever mindful of the sacrifices made by the men and women who protect and defend our nation in times of war and their loved ones that hold their families together while they are away from home.

On Monday, May 26, people all across the United States will come together to remember those who have given their lives in the cause of Liberty and to defend our Constitution. It is a time for gratitude and solemn remembrance, but also a time to reflect upon the ways in which we can all live the guiding value “service to nation and others before self.”

As you and your loved ones gather this Memorial Day to pay tribute to those who have gone before, or that are serving today, I encourage you to also spend some time thinking about the role that service plays in your own life and how we can all continue to serve our Republic and her people in and out of the uniform of the Armed Forces. In that way we pay real tribute to their service and honor their sacrifices.

It was our uniformed friend Eomrat that once reminded me “You do not need to be in uniform to serve America.”

He’s right.

During the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812, the Americans who resisted the British inspired Francis Scott Key to compose the poem “Defence of Fort McHenry” which later became the lyrics for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Most of those Americans were not professional soldiers. They were “only” Citizens – just like you and me – who put their lives on the line to defend Freedom. They SERVED.. We can all serve America, with or without uniform.

God Bless America.

Thanks for the post. I went to a meat market to purchase some fajita's, molleja's, ect. for Sunday. So....... I'm driving by on my way going south to the farm, and I see a bunch of guys waving the Mexico flag. No problem, so I pulled over and chit chatted with the guys, and the one holding the flag told me 'Down with gringos, down with America. I kicked the guy right below his knee cap and he fell, Mexican flag and all. Now there were others I had to deal with, but I didn't give a fuk at this point. So at this point, a fat bastard started talking sh!t to me. He was probably 5'10" 380 or so. Anyway, I just thought to myself fuk it and started laying into him hitting him with all I had. He finally went to his knees and said no more. The rest of the guys just watched and didn't jump in and I am thankful for that. In a hurry, and not being able to catch my breath, I forgot to tell them Happy Memorial Day. :(

Not just TX. It's bad up in WA.

Watch yourself. Glad you didn't get stabbed. That's their move up here.

Memorial Day. Respect regardless.

Profound pics...especially the Soldier holding his Brothers dog tags.
That one easily clouds up the glasses if pondered too long.

Consider myself 'reminded'. :)

Amen !!! Amen !!! and again Amen !!!

Thank you to all veterans, current service men and women, and all their families who have sacrificed and endured so much so that we can be free. The boy receiving the flag in the photo from Paolo resembles my son when he was younger. Man this made me weep.

I'm on the left coast so I've never been to The Wall.
I'm curious if there are any here that visit The Wall in D.C. on this day?

If so, please pay my respects: Floyd Wayne Hamilton (KIA 5/23/66) or Thomas Frank Presby (KIA 7/24/66)....say a few words for me.
If one is at The Wall....one likely knows the right words.

Thanks in advance if I've gotten lucky.

Back to topic....

"There is DISCIPLINE in a soldier. You can see it when he walks. There is HONOR in a soldier. You hear it when he talks.
There is COURAGE in a soldier. You can see it in his eyes. There is LOYALTY in a soldier that he will not compromise.
There is something in a soldier that makes him stand apart. There is STRENGTH in a soldier that beats in his heart.
A soldier isn't a title any man can be hired to do. A soldier is the soul of that man, buried deep inside of you."
TO EVERY SOLDIER I SAY to you...THANK YOU, for what you do.
