I know how most men are, we never go to the doctor, we feel we are like superman, nothing is wrong with us and if there is we say to ourselves "It will go away"...

Yesterday morning my sister in law (Patty sister) brother in law (her husbands brother) was found dead in his bed. He went to sleep last night and never woke up.

According to the doctor he had 3 clogged arteries (said he should have had a triple bypass long ago) and according to his son, he never went to the doctor/s to get a check up.

So I am just throwing this out there, do yourself and your love ones a favor, go to the doc and get a regular check up, prevention is better than cure and most definitely better than death.

RIP Mike.

Was a nice looking man. Sorry for your loss, BH. How old of a guy was he?

I believe he was 54, not sure. I know he was close to age with me and his younger brother who I am close with.

Seems like the last year or so has been tough for family members. Hopefully this is the end of it. My condolences.

This is VERY good advice.

Sorry to hear that BH.

Your advice is very good. Also, don't ignore symptoms. If you have unexplained pain in the jaw, neck, chest, upper back, or you have shortness of breath ... definitely talk to a doctor about it. I remember theMyth saying he had jaw pain, which the doctor later told him was a heart attack. So pay attention to warning signals and don't dismiss them if you have them.

Tragic, and probably true that many of us shy away from medical check-ups.

I've only had one scare regarding my own health - about 2 yrs ago, during a conversation, the words suddenly didn't come out right.
I was clear in my mind as to what I was going to say but only some kind of gibberish/random words came out. It freaked me out and I tried finding a pen
and paper to write down what I meant to say instead. It only lasted a minute or two and has not happened again. That was around the time I started changing
my lifestyle for the better. I didn't see anyone about it, which is stupid of course.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. :(

Men tend to avoid doctors because we don't want to hear something's wrong. Huge mistake.

RIP, Mike.

What a shame, so young.

I've been putting off a colonoscopy for 2 years, I need to get in and get that done.

Damn BH, sorry to hear. It seems like your family has gone through a great deal lately. RIP Mike. I do go to the Dr. for regular checkups, mainly to have my PSA levels tested since my dad had prostate cancer.

Thanks everyone, as I said, please see a doc if not for you, but for your love ones.

Here was the last time I hung with Mike.

The only two there that are not brothers is me and the guy holding the barcardi bottle and the red cup. The rest are Mike and his three brothers.

Sorry about your family's loss BH. Crazy when stuff like this happens. Agree on keeping your health looked after. Most cases like this are preventable but as men we are such dumbasses!

I started going for yearly physicals maybe 5 years ago. Before that, they were spotty... here and there. They'll probably get me to do a stress test this round due to family history (last one was in 2007). My next physical is due in July, but I have to get my wife a bit better before I can concentrate on me. I feel basically sound though.

Worked with a guy that bragged about never going to the doctor, a chain smoker, really fat and did no exercise. He dropped dead on a Friday going home a few years back, age 53. Another guy, last year age 61, he went home with chest pains and did nothing about it, figured he'd see a doctor tomorrow... but he died in his sleep. My wife would have dragged me to the ER.
