I'm making a trip to KC this year. with a couple other Pennsylvania Chief fans.. Not sure what gm just yet.. Probably NE@KC MNF...

I'll probably be up for the whole weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun).. I could definitely use a Chief fan to show me what bars to hit up.. We should all link up if possible

P & L claims another victim http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11063389/sean-smith-kansas-city-chiefs-cited-dui-wreck

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith was cited for driving under the influence and careless driving after an officer witnessed him lose control and strike a light pole early Monday.

[+] EnlargeSean Smith
AP Photo/Gary WiepertCornerback Sean Smith started 15 games last season, his first with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to a copy of the police report, Smith was attempting to make a turn in Kansas City's Power & Light entertainment district when he struck the light pole around 12:30 a.m. The officer reported that Smith "appeared confused and began mumbling statements that I did not understand."

Smith declined medical attention. Along with citations for driving under the influence, he was also cited for failure to provide insurance.

The Chiefs said in a statement on Tuesday that they were aware of the matter. The statement called the situation "disappointing" but declined further comment.

The 26-year-old Smith signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Chiefs as a free agent last offseason and played in 16 games (15 starts), posting 47 tackles with two interceptions and 16 passes defensed.

The Kansas City Star reported that Smith was at practice Tuesday but worked mostly with the Chiefs' second-team defense as Ron Parker, a backup in 2014, got most of the first-team reps.

This.

But first I want to apologize to all my Chiefs fans... I've been focused on the Spurs beating the Heats ass the last couple of weeks. Make no mistake about it though... Chiefs are my wife and always will be...

Spurs are just the hot side chick. Lol..

Anyway, to me the Sean Smith DUI is a nonstory. Everyone in here who has driven drunk raise their hand? That's what I thought.. He just got caught... If he does it again then it's a problem but for now, it's a nonissue.

Btw shots are on me... Just let me know what bar to go to when I come for the weekend of NE @ KC...

The period between end of NBA/Hocky and start of college football is the worst in sports. At least the world cup is this year, that'll help a little. I usually start planning my fantasy football too so that helps.

Sucks to see him go. Sutton likes tall CBs so Flowers just doesn't fit the scheme. Add to the fact the he had a terrible year last year, has a high cap number and our lack of salary cap space it's easy for me to see why he was cut.

It saves us a lot of cap room but unless Cooper really improves my expectations for this defense are not going to be very high. Maybe they'll surprise me though...

It appears they're going back to the 90's D. Get to the QB in under 2 seconds and stick whoever and their mama at corner and safety as a stop gap. I hope it works because it'll be fun to watch.....but things don't generally work out as planned with the chiefs.

Lol so true...

Yeah I think Sutton and Reid want to build up our dline and blitz.. Just constantly create pressure so then our CBs don't have to be the greatest.. We'll see how it works... It worked for NYG when they won their SBs..

Definitely.. The Giants proved that..

A lot of teams have adjusted to dominant d-fronts and now teams focus on quick passes so we need our CBs to get better at jamming. Cooper sucks at that but it was his first year playing CB...

The guy could become a stud with good coaching... I think our coaches have confidence in that happening which is one of the reasons why we released Flowers..

No way we should go to a 4-3...

First of all Sutton comes from NYJ who run a 3-4.. He'd be lost trying to teach a 4-3 D.. Now if we hired a D-Coordinator who is an expert at 4-3 then yeah but as long as Sutton is here we will run a 3-4...

Plus we've been running a 3-4 for how long now? Lets keep the chemistry going.. Obviously our defense fell apart at the end of the year but I still think we can have a top 5 D if we can correct some issues (like FS) even without Flowers...

I think he gets extended sometime during the season. As far as the numbers, I have no idea but I'd look for a year-to-year contract similar to what you guys did with Kaep.

I don't think we will let him get away after giving up two 2nd round picks for him.

Brandon Flowers called us out

Brandon Flowers' decision to join the San Diego Chargers is both business and personal. The veteran cornerback, released by the Kansas City Chiefs last week, explained Wednesday on NFL Network how he reacted to the move and his motivation behind agreeing to a deal with the Chargers.

"I was very surprised when it happened," Flowers said on Wednesday's edition of NFL Total Access. "I know I hit the (salary) cap pretty hard, but I thought if I was going to get traded or released it would be in February or March sometime.

"The timing that they did it, it kind of hit me. So that's why I stayed in the division. I want to play the Chiefs again, let them know how I felt about it."

No, he went to the Chargers because they gave him the best deal. He's bitter and I don't blame him but he's acting like he had offers for better money elsewhere. He didn't.

I've never been to a Chiefs training camp but I've been to the Eagles.

Eagles camp was definitely good for the kids and I don't know how the Chiefs one is setup but with the Eagles just get there early and get the top seat on some bleachers. You 'll get the best view. Get there early though, if you don't you will not get a good view because it gets crowded really quick.

Went to camp today and it was really cool. I've never been to a camp before but will probaby try to go once a year now.

Alex Smith looked sharp but so did Tyler Bray, pretty sure he'll be the number 2.

DeAnthony Thomas looked awesome. He got in quite a bit with the first team and was FAST. He broke a few runs and had 2 really long completions...I'm excited to see him this year. D.Bowe loved hamming it up for the crowd, he came over and posed and talked to people a few times. You could tell whenever anyone wanted to goof off or talk chit on the sidelines he's the one they went to.

Chiefs are now taking walk-ons for offensive linemen. Let your overweight friends know.

Seriously, we are royally boned unless we get at least 3 nice surprises with random off season pickups. Or should I say Alex Smith is royally boned. I wouldn't get that contract either, all there will be left of him is a spot on the field by next year.

Also cool to see Sorenson the rookie from BYU starting. His oldest brother was in my grade in high school in CA before I moved out to KS. I think theres another one on the Chargers too.

Wooooo! Pretty happy about that first game. Yes it sucks we gave up a ton of points on defense but honestly, we hardly played a lot of our starters (especially Berry being out the whole game) so I am not overly concerned. As long as we continue to show we can score points on teams I will be thrilled!

Love seeing Albert Wilson finish off that play. I can't help but remember last year vs the Colts when Dwayne Bowe was running down field and Jr Hemingway completely gave up on blocking the play down field. Bowe got tackled on the 2 and we settled for a Fg.

Well they are the youngest oline in the NFL so they probably will struggle especially in the beginning of the year but hopefully they get better as the year goes on.

Can't expect our O to do too much without Bowe and Charles anyway. Missing one we can still be pretty effective but both? Going to be hard to score..

If the O line can just reach a level where it's serviceable we actually could have a shot.

Kelce and Fasano are gonna be a nice combo in the receiving game and Charles has been producing with sub par O lines his entire career.

The problem right now is that Smith literally does not trust the O line and is trying to force everything out way to quick.

But honestly I'm glad Succop is gone. He's missed some big kicks for us over the years. I can think of a couple against the Steelers and last year against the Chargers. That was huge. We could have knocked a division rival out of the playoffs with a bunch of backups... I would not trust him to make a clutch kick for us in the playoffs.

detes on smiths' contract

Let's sort that one out:

2014 - 1 M$ base, 18 M$ SB (19 M$ guaranteed upon signing), cap 4.6 M$
2015 - 11.9 M$ base (guaranteed 3rd day 2015 League year), cap 15.5 M$
2016 - 14.1 M$ base (guaranteed 3rd day 2015 League year), cap 17.7 M$
2017 - 10.2 M$ base, 2 M$ RB, cap 15.8 M$
2018 - 14.5 M$ base, 2 M$ RB, cap 20.1 M$

My breakdown:

This initially is a ONE year, 19 M$ contract. If things don't work out the Chiefs can release Smith after the season, but would have to take 14.4 M$ in dead money on their cap. (There are ways to spread it out a bit - but irrelevant here).

Early next year this contract converts into a THREE year, 45 M$ contract (15 M$ average) when his next two years become guaranteed. If released before the three years are done cash and cap hit explode, once his salary becomes guaranteed.

From 2017 it's pay as you go. The RB guarantees he would be released early in the year with a chance to catch on with another team.

Overall: Not so different from the Kap deal. Chiefs can opt out after year one, three, four or five without taking a devastating cap hit. Looks like a scheme developing- pricey contracts with opt-out solutions if they don't work out.

I consider this a fair deal for both sides. The Chiefs don't have to TRULY commit before Smith's initial contract is up, but they pay him for the longer term option. Once they commit a bit more - it's for the foreseeable future. They don't bet the franchise's long term fate on Alex. And Alex may earn decent, but not top QB money.

Oh - a decent side effect: The Chiefs just cleared another 3 M$ in cap THIS year. If they don't use it they can just roll it over into next year. But it may give them the flexibility to get a Houston deal done already this year.

Our offense controlling the clock was part of it. But 3 pts in the 2nd half when it mattered most is good work- especially without 2 of our best defenders. Owens is looking like a real good fill in for flowers. The TD he gave up he had it played almost perfectly.

What a frustrating game to give away. Refs were beyond fuking retarded yesterday, and we'll never hear a word about it either. Denver continues to run illegal pick plays that are never called. I saw Harris pull Clady's signature horse collar on Miller and they actually called him for holding...what's up with that?

Smith played an alright game. He still got scared way too early multiple times. He'd lookup field and see nobody was wide open so he's immediately tuck and run. Fasano bailed Smith out with that catch at the end of the game. Smith had some bad overthrows, but also so nice throws there as as well. But once again, 0 TD's and 0 ints. I don't see how giving someone a contract with $42 million gauranteed and we're looking at a statline of 255 yards, 61.9% completion and 0 td's and 0 int's and we're all thinking that was a good game....lolwat?

I think it was the 10 minute drive, but whoever was calling the goal line plays needs to be shot. The bootlegs to one side of the field are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fuking dumb and hardly ever works. We're taking away 50% of the field immediately making it that much easier to defend.

Not going for it on that 4th and 1 was horrible as well, at that point we were running all over Denver averaging like 6 yards a carry and we were affraid of gaining 1 yard?

Division games are usually pretty close, so we'll see how KC takes this game and goes with it against Miami. I'm still thinking under 6 wins for KC this year. I'll be waiting for a QB to drop to us in the 1st round and KC will pass because we're so heavily invested in Smith. That's just our luck. Knowing KC, they'll probably draft DL first round again and neglect WR b/c we'll go for the gem UFA's who cannot get any separation from CB's.

Still waiting for a DAT sighting..... please?

I thought Sutton did a good job. Holding Broncos to 24 pts wout DJ and basically without E Berry is not easy..

We held them to 24 points because the offense chit on Denver in terms of TOP.
Everytime Denver had the ball, they were scoring within 2-3 mins, the only time they didnt was due to penalties.

Explain to me why we released Flowers to get bigger CBs to press with, yet played half the game with our DBs 5+ yards off the ball.

Sutton is garbage plain and simple, should have been canned after his failure to adjust in last years playoffs

Also Reid needs to nut up, and go on that 4th and 1, we probably would have won if we had.

I hear you man but eventually you have to start looking at the players and not the DC.

When we had Romeo KC fans were screaming for a DC who was more aggressive now we have one. If the D still isn't that great that says to me that the problem is not with our DC it's our players...

Yes we had good TOP but our D came up with some big stops against the Broncos... We lost because we couldn't score in the redzone not because of the D IMO.

Got there at 330 to tailgate, maybe beers and BBQ were had.

Crowd was nuts. There was a lot of Pats fans there so I'm surprised we broke the noise record but it was LOUD. Great win, hopefully the great play continues.

Going to the K tomorrow for the Royals playoff game, then NASCAR on sunday...it's going to be a good week.

Got back from the game myself. That was hands down the best football experience I've ever had. Broke the crowd noise record. Shattered the Pats. Everyone seems healthy / no big injuries. Not many penalties all game which made the game very enjoyable to watch.

I cannot believe we are a 2-2 team with the injuries we have and have a legit chance at being 3-2 going into the BYE.

Glad I could be apart of that game, what an experience. Seattle is already whining about KC breaking the noise record. Something about beating it on a timeout, everything being orchestrated, counting down 1-2-3 to get loud. Am I missing something or did that not happen? I never saw that. Throughout the game they had the decible rating on the big screen but that's about it. Nothing more than the "get loud" like any other game. Bunch of babies.

Neat

As I conclude, I'll leave you with this. In 1989, Kansas City was beginning the road back to contention with Carl Peterson and Schottenheimer at the controls. In 1990, the Chiefs made the playoffs but were one-and-done, still lacking national respect.

On Oct. 7, 1991, Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium welcomed the Buffalo Bills into town. The venue rocked that evening, announcing to the world the Chiefs were once again relevant after decades of futility. The final score was 33-6.

Almost 23 years later, Kansas City announced once more that it mattered. It beat a different Hall of Fame quarterback, again by 27 points.

They never did a count down which is what me and a lot of other people were waiting for so it could have been a lot higher than it was. It got that high just off the 3rd and two they stuffed Ridley on, I was watching the decibel meter they had on the screen and it went up over 140.

1) Ticket prices really depend on the game. Raiders/Broncos are way more than others. Some games you can get them for $50+ some for $85+ Prices rise when the team starts doing good.
2) Theres 3 hotels right across the street, but in reality you can get to Arrowhead from any hotel in the city in under 30 min. If you're looking for a good weekend try something at Crown Center, Crown Plaza, or power and light. They're near downtown and there's tons of bars/westport/KC Live/restaurants. Stay at any of them and you wouldn't need a car, just cab it to the game/airport.
3)Places to see depend on what you're into. Downtown has a lot. Power and Light is a big area of restaurants and bars, its packed on the weekend. Westport is the same thing but older. Union station is cool to go thru there's bridges that link to most everything downtown including shopping, hotels, bars, the aquarium, Lego land. If you wanna go for a drive then Lawrence is about 35-45 min away, thats where KU is and you can tour Allen Field house and the campus, or go to Mass street which is again a ton of shops, bars, and restaurants just with a college town feel. Theres a great farmers market downtown. Theres 3 or 4 really great breweries a few blocks from each other you can check out if you're into craft beer check out KC Bier Co, KC Ber Station, 42nd street brewery.
BBQ is up to you theres literally hundreds of places to go to each with their own specialty. The most well known ones are Oklahoma Joes, Jack Stack, Gates, and Arthur Bryants. If I feel like some brisket or a BBQ sandwich then I head to OK Joes, its an order at the counter and go sit yourself type place. If I want a really nice dinner at a sit down restaurant or some burnt ends I head to Jack Stack.

If you haven't been to a game before you NEED TO GO. Your Sunday will be all about the game, most start at 12 which means you better be at arrowhead by 8am. Tailgating is an art form at arrowhead, the entire parking lot and surrounding area is a cloud of BBQ smoke, huge tailgates and parties everywhere. You can just park and roll up to most big shindigs and no one minds, or you can pay a few bucks to get into one of the bud light/private events for food and beer. People hang in the parking lot after the game and continue to party.

I've been to games all over the country and nothing really compares to a Chiefs game.

Not sure who is whining about it. I couldn't care less. We passed the sound levels that were physically attainable long ago. It's silly to think either stadium is actually louder than the enclosed soccer stadium in Pakistan or wherever that held the record before.

As far as the "opera stadium", it's more how close the fans are to the field. Small footprint.

"it’s a mostly open-air stadium, the building traps noise. While CenturyLink Field isn’t domed, two huge canopies — one on the east side of the stadium, the other on the west side — cover 70% of the seats. This design has two benefits. One, it protects fans from Seattle’s famous rain. And two, it pumps up the volume."

“The main thing that creates noise is any type of overhanging structure that reflects sounds back into the stadium,” says Andrew Barnard, a research associate at Penn State‘s Applied Research Laboratory, specializing in structural acoustics. What’s more, Seattle’s stadium has two additional overhangs, functioning as the bottom of the upper seating bowl, that cover the lower seating bowls. “Sound also reflects off the bottom of the upper deck, and back onto the field,” says Barnard."

Back to back 100 yard games for knile

I also think it's unfair to say Dorsey hasn't been good at managing the cap thus far. When a new regime takes over they want their own style of players and with that you will see a lot of turnover. Ie- us losing half the offensive line from last year. I don't think that directly corresponds with the salary cap. If Dorsey can remove guys from his team who he doesn't want, while also saving $ then why wouldn't he? Take a look at the Brandon Flowers move from this year. Even if we kept him we would still be 2-2 going into week 5. But he freed up necessary cap to sign Smith to a long term deal and also extended Charles.

The Dee Ford draft pick is another good example of him preparing for the future while also thinking long term about the salary cap. Dorsey knows that Houston and Poe need to get paid and Tamba Hali is eating up an ass load of $$$. If we can potentially dump Hali or restructure his contract (because now we have some leverage) then that isn't the worst and might be in our best interest long term.

One thing I love about this regime is the fact that they place so much emphasis on not only drafting players but actually starting them. Time and again I've seen us spend high draft picks on players with tons of talent, only for it to go to waste because we would rather start a veteran or an overpriced free agent. Zach Fulton / Ron Parker are 2 good examples of that. Coach em up. Let them play, and let them learn from their mistakes.

Next year we will be a way better off team with these rookies getting valuable playing time in key situations.

Its Derrick Johnson being out that hurts more IMO. He would always stop those big plays from happening. But when Berry does come back I'd like to see him being used as a rover type, and keep Ron Parker at safety. Man he has been balling out since they moved him back there.

Regardless of the loss I thoroughly enjoy watching this team. We show so much heart and passion and can literally hang with any team it seems like. Remember when we would play tough, hard nosed teams in the past? We could hardly get first downs.

Geno Smith, well I don't think I have to tell you guys... And to think a lot of Chief fans wanted us to draft him #1...

The coolest game day experience ever. I talked to Kelce for a second. He came to the sidelines gave his gloves away and gave high fives. Told him to shmoney on these p*ssies and he started dancing in the pre game warmups. It was pretty cool being that close to these monsters.

If Houston, Hali and Berry can stay healthy this defense can be elite...

Just got back from Camerohead good game today.

Biggest LoL of the day goes out to all the fans that booed the fuk outta the guy in the Decker Broncos jersey that came walking up into the cheap seats. I was scared for the guy for a bit. Saw dudes in raiders stuff, pats stuff, jets stuff, and a few others and they didn't have a problem....as soon as the crowd saw orange though it was on.

another solid win....this defense is baking so hard. still no rushing tds allowed and people are getting healthy. pray to god we can keep houston because hes on another planet right now.

loved some of the play calling on offense. the design of the one play when kelce flashed out to run a screen and bowe slanted into the void of the defense had me like awwwww fuk yah. obviously once we got the lead it was cruise control. Andy does a good job of keeping chit in the backpack for later use. On top of all that the chargers looked like dog shee. We need them to struggle and us to sneak that wild card!

this. they are getting him move involved which i like to see. he obviously has game changer speed like the days of X factor. keep easing that little secret weapon into this offense so no one even pays attention to him. Then Andy springs the trap when we need it most.

anyone else slightly concerned about the bills? feel like they usually play us tough. No sammy watkins would be nice for the chiefs (bad for my fantasy team but i prefer he sits and the chiefs win easy)

I'm worried, buffalo at home after a bye isn't a good look.

It's a big game too, so hopefully the D plays like the last few weeks and the running game goes off.
