Any baseball fans out there?

Getting in some last fun on the PS3 before I pick up the PS4 version tomorrow. If the PS3 looks this good, I can't WAIT for the PS4! I think I feel a... *cough!* *cough!* cold coming on... I may have to call in sick tomorrow.

This is my Road to the Show Player, "Pepsi Willingham", a 5-tool CF coming up through the Marlin's organization. Currently tearing it up at AA level and waiting for my AAA callup (I know it's coming, I just know it!)

In the upcoming MLB 14: The Show, developer San Diego Studios is bringing Franchise Mode, the long-time single player favorite, online, allowing players to combine team-building aspects with the customizable options of online leagues.

Players that create a new Franchise Mode online will automatically become their league's commissioner, and can set draft options and schedules before they invite other players to join –– any unclaimed teams will be CPU-controlled.

The mode's online version will also retain most of the elements of previous iterations, including scouting, the amateur draft, free agency and CPU trades. And, in traditional fashion, players can then scout the minor leagues, manage rosters and sign contract renewals to maintain their talent in the offseason.

How doe? I don't think I know how to swing or time it. I haven't played an MLB game since the PSP and I only played pitcher so I wouldn't need to hit. I get decent grades for good contact but I had 2 0fers in my showcase games before I think I lucked out and hit a GS which boosted me up. But still got drafted 2nd round. My first 2 games at AA I'm batting 0.

Any tips on how to swing? I'm about ready to rage quit the day after I bought lulz

Idk what hitting style you're using but i use the zone circle thing. Don't always use square to hit. Thats the power swing. Use X which is medium or O which is contact to break a slump. They have a practice hitting mode use that. Timing is key.

If that doesn't help go to the sliders and drop the Pitch Speed a little

I never realized there were 3 different types of swings. I've always used square or X.

Playing in the OF is a pain in the ass to me. I can't figure out where the ball is half the time and the camera angles suck.

My RTTS player hit his first HR, and when I got back to the dugout, they were doing the old "Ignore me" joke... Finally, they all jmped on me, patting me on the back and stuff... It was great. I'm 3/4 of the way through my first season at AA ball, batting .348.

Aw man I skipped through my celebration of my first HR in AA. I don't crush the ball at all. I'm more of a contact, speed, with some power type hitter. Trying to be the next Mike Trout mane.

Felt AMAZING hitting a 2 RBI triple though lol. My first game in the Showcase I went 4-7 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, including a walk off RBI. Thats probably what made me go 3rd overall.

Also a tip for you guys, go to RTTS setting and change base running to buttons. You use R1 and L1 to run the bases then. I feel like this is MUCH better because the camera switching was messing me up with the stick. Now I just hold R1 to keep running

With the button you simply keep holding it to keep running. I love it because if you crush the ball you just hold R1 and your player rounds the bases very smoothly, while with the stick I felt like I had to wait for him to get there and he would stutter a little and then go which could hurt. Maybe just me on that last part idk

Anyone else pre order this at Gamestop? They give you $19.99 to use for in game currency. Seems like the only thing you can buy is upgrades to your RTTS player, Diamond Dynasty(idk what this is tbh), or getting more money in your franchise lol.

Also pretty dumb that PS4 doesn't let you save MP3 files onto the system...I love having custom walk up music =[ Also when I make my closer adding custom music there is amazing. On Operation Sports they have sounds of the show to download. Basically a bunch of crowd noise and things like that which make the game nicer.

Just picked up the game today. Never played an MLB game before, but had an urge to play one as a pitcher. Started up a RTS character, got drafted 4th round 20th pick. Embarrassing as fuark man.
I feel so retarded trying to pitch. Tried all the different controls, I tend to use pulse now. I feel it's the most realistic for accuracy as you will never have perfect accuracy, I like that circle where your ball can go. But cannot ever get a decent pitch with it. Always get very late or very early releases. Any tips for this?
I like Analog too, but I'm even more retarded with the stick, when I pull it back then move it forward it always slants to the right.
Also feel like the bases are messed up for pitchers. If you catch the ball and try to throw it to a base you have to press the opposite button as if you were a fielder. 1st is square instead of O and second is X instead of triangle.

You should be able to change your fielding preference in the settings, I'd actually be surprised if that option wasn't there.

I've been using dynamic difficulty. Not sure if its because I moved up from double A or moved to all star for batting, but I am MUCH worse.

I've also had a glitch where the whole field turns a different color. I've had it red and blue so far, and it makes it a real pain in the ass to field. Anyone else run into this?

I would think as SP, if you're on, you're playing a minimum of 6 innings. My 2B I pretty much do 4 ABs, and MAYBE 5 double plays and that's a game. I get through a game in less than 10 mins

Depends on how good you are. Some games take like 30-40 minutes because I was throwing 20 or so pitches an inning. Other games took 10-15 minutes with only throwing 4-7 times an inning. Points vary pretty hard based on how well you do. I suck but am getting around 180-250 IF I start. I got shafted pretty hard, my character is a SP but the team I was drafted to had all SP better then me so they put me as a R which wasn't bad. Some games I would come in at the 5th inning and pitch for the rest earning about the same amount of points. Felt I was doing pretty good, think I was 5W-2L in the stat column. Then they moved me to the bullpen and now I'm lucky if I get 2 innings to pitch every 6-7 days. Now I'm getting around 50-80 points a game.

Think I'm going to recreate my character now, I'm getting better. The one I have now only has a C potential and with the loop I'm in, getting 50 points a game barely allows me to actually get anything up. Already losing stats on my char.

I understand that the ball wont always go to where you placed it, but whenever I look at my release even though the white line is practically on each other I still get late or early. Or the slider will be soooooo close to the top that I either make the ball go straight or wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off to the side.

EDIT: Apparently potential affects how many points it costs to upgrade each skill. So, if you don't have an A potential, might as well restart.

Really enjoy the game but want to get better. I'm pretty good at pitching but hitting i'm not that great.

I always start out looking for a certain pitch. I use the Guess Pitch method. If you don't know how to do that, what you do is hold R2 and pick a location using the left stick. If you "guess" correctly, just before the pitcher lets go, you'll get a "lock on" symbol, showing the exact spot the ball is going to, and locking on your batting cursor. That's what doubles and triples (and HRs) are made of. :-)

I "guess" Fastball up. And if I'm correct, I'll get the "lock on" symbol (showing that I've guessed right) and I proceed to smash it. I use X for normal swing. When I DON'T get the Lock On symbol, I take the pitch. Period. I will not swing. If it's a ball, I continue doing the same thing (guess fastball up, and NOT swing unless i get the lock on symbol.

OR until I get two strikes on me.

Once I get two strikes, then I swing at anything that looks like a strike, and (very important here), I use the "contact" swing (the circle button). It's a lot more forgiving, not just in location, but with timing as well. Mind you, I STILL guess Fastball Up, and sometimes I guess right, but even when I don't guess correctly, I'll swing at pitches that look like strikes, often fouling off several pitches.

Don't get frustrated, remember; Even the best hitters fail 2/3rds of the time. It will come with practice.

Excellent tips on the hitting, Chairman. I like to guess pitch high fastball a lot, too.

Another thing to add is hitting just comes down to experience, whether in video games or real life. Play the game enough, and you'll start to identify the types of pitches coming at you the moment the pitcher releases, and you'll get better at predicting the speed, type, and location - you'll be able to identify most pitches as a ball or strike. Be patient, work the count, don't swing at every pitch. Try to get in the pitcher's head and think about what he's most likely to pitch next. That's what makes baseball strategy so interesting.

In for answers to this. I'm in the same boat. I don't get how to adjust the controls there's no option for it.

I'm a newbie too at PS4 and just bought The Show after being deprived of Baseball gaming since I was on the XBox 360.

First, I'm assuming that you're playing exhibition games. I haven't delved into RTTS or anything else.

When you loaded up the game for the first time, you choose "experienced" or "beginner". I'm pretty sure you chose "beginner" because when you're on that setting, the only thing you really have control over is hitting and pitching because fielding and base running is done for you automatically.

Now to change controls, when you hit options to enter the game, just press R1 twice and it'll take you into the options sub screen which has User Settings. There, you can change to experienced if you want and then you can also change the difficulty as well as the hitting / pitching mechanics. You can also see "Game Controls" which will tell you what buttons to press and use, etc etc..

Right now I'm just playing on Dynamic Difficulty which adjusts the game to you as you get better / worse. It helps since I suck at this game so progressively the game will get harder as I get better, but this game reminds me a lot of MVP Baseball 05 which was the GOAT baseball game. I set my hitting to the "right stick" method (I think it's called analog) and then I just changed my pitching to where it's metered and you press once for speed and press again for accuracy. I also follow whatever my catcher calls since I think it'd be cheesy as phuark to try and just paint corners all day.

Made a pitcher few days ago, drafted late in the 4th round with C potential. Sucked so bad that I only got to play 1-2 innings a game and couldn't earn enough points to stop my skills from deteriorating. Played on the Dynamic skil level and couldn't get more then one + on Veteran. Made a new guy yesterday, killed the prospect games. Drafted 1st round 20th pick to the Nationals. B potential. 1.5 months in and I am starting pitcher for the AAA team. Consistently pitch for 7-9 innings earning between 400-700 points. Now up to Allstar+ on the Dynamic skill level. It's happening, I'm not bad anymore! I'll be in the Majors in no time!

From what I've heard the prospect games determine your potential and your draft place. Your potential determines how fast or slow your skills deteriorate. i.e. if you have C potential it might take 1-1.5 months from the last time you leveled up a skill to go down one. If you have A potential it might take 2-2.5 months.
Not sure if it's right, if so it would just make it harder to keep high overalls on a lower potential player.

Just read this thread. What's everyones opinion on this game, I'm still playing last years game occasionally. I'll probably wait another year to buy a PS4 and then I'll buy next years version which hopefully is better yet.

Also I cant believe the guy earlier up on the page said he guesses high fastball. The offspeed stuff is what gets me, I got to guess low curveball 90% of the time so I dont get burned.

Also the guy who talked about pulse pitching, thats the worst. Fun to try but analog is way better because your not walking the entire team.

That's exactly WHY I guess high fast ball. I can't handle the offspeed stuff worth crap. Even if I knew it was coming, my swing would be screwed up, and I wouldn't do much with the pitch. Not easy for me to get good wood on those pitches. If I guess high fastball and I don't guess correctly (I don't get he lock-on symbol), I just don't swing. He can throw all the offspeed pitches he wants. I aint bitin'.

I'm batting .345, so my system seems to be working.

Also what controls are you brahs using for fielding and how the fk do you baserun. I'm so confused out there.

Baserunning in this mode is the easiest thing in the world next to breathing. Push up to advance, pull down to go back. That's it. (no matter which base, no matter where the camera is pointing)

Alright I take it back... I needed to try out fielding and batting so I forced myself to practice batting. Guess pitch is stupid as phuck. Anyways I stopped depending on that and actually just watched the pitch and I've been killing it. 10 games after batting 0.175 I brought it up to 0.340 or something along there, had 10 HRs and 15 RBI and got called up to the NYY. I don't even know the feels of AAA at all. Both players I started went straight from AA to the Majors. Also I've been killing it in the Majors. over .500 with 11 RBI and 4 HRs.

Best thing to do is pick a spot and stick to it. I believe on guessing low with either the changeup or curveball offspeed pitches. And then just sit fastball mainly unless they throw the low offspeed pitch.

I guarentee to the poster that replied to my post that if you start doing this you will get better at hitting the offspeed stuff. One other thing to do that helps is focus on the part of the zone you want the pitch to go, that helps so that you dont swing at everything.

What position you playing? My Yankees RTTS is a 2B. Cano isn't on the team anymore and the starting 2B got injured and was having a really bad year so I got my contract bought by the Yanks. My Blue Jays SP got called up because he's full out God-mode and outside of Dickey and Buerhle, the entire staff was awful in that season.

Consequently my friend created a 1B and chose the Jays. Their fielding is pretty stacked save for 2B so he was stuck in AAA doing the same numbers as you. Over 100 RBIs, hitting .400 etc and didn't get invited to the Majors until Spring Training the following season, and even then it was as an injury replacement for Bautista.

Moral of the story, pick your RTTS position, and then choose a team that has a weakness at that position and you'll be called up with the quickness.

The Show always disappoints with Franchise mode as I always find so many issues that should have been resolved with just some minor testing. Seems like they just focus on RTTS which I dont even play. Still the only good baseball game though but I wish another company would give them some competition finally.

Brahs is RTTS more fun using a pitcher? I'm playing as short stop and it's pretty fun but don't know if I'm missing out on anything.

I feel like that would take a long time to play each game though. I'm ripping through each game in less than ten minutes usually just playing my fielding and at bats.

Time to get my RTTS going. Im not sure if I want to go pitcher or batter. Fuuuuuuuuu. I would like to have both but really want to dedicate all 30k to one of them. Either I could go pitcher and give him 2 wicked pitches to start off or go batter and give him Chris Davis like power

I just use the buttons and move the left stick to track the ball. Been putting every point I get towards hitting vs right hander and now I'm getting like 2-3 hits a game and batting .400. It does take a long time to get points though you just have make good plays and get a lot of hits/drive in runs to get more and more points.

From what I've read, that was the point. People complained that they could play and NBA 2k or a Madden game in a half hour or so, but a game of The Show could take an hour or more. So they basically shortened it whatever way they could. My 2B I can finish a game in 10 mins or less. My SP I was doing half hour easy.

Also I'm a little pissed that my potential score won't go up from a B to an A. I'm ripping it in the Majors. I came in midway through the season and am already tops on the Yanks in HRs and 4th in RBIs. I'm hitting .400 and my OPS is like 1500. Am I just stuck at a B? They don't even consider me a future superstar

If you want to cheat a little you can move your sliders around. Put contact and power to max setting. You can also adjust cpu strike frequency depending on if you want to get more walks or more hits. Once you get your player to a manageable rating you can just readjust your sliders.

In regards to the above post, pitching obviously takes longer per game, but remember as a SP you appear in significantly less games.

The first games I played when I got the game were my showcase games in rtts so of course I sucked. Ended up getting drafted in 7th round. Starting to think I should have started over because I got promoted to AAA and am batting like 390 with 23 SB's in around 20 games yet my potential is a D and I projected as a career minor leaguer.

Going to stick with it because I'm tearing the cover off the ball and I'm pretty sure I'm going to shatter the stolen base record considering I steal second and third everytime I'm on base.

Just out of curiosity how many games do you guys play in a season? Last MLB I played was 2010 i think, and I never could decide how often to play or simulate. With a starting pitcher I could see every start, but say a starting short stop. It'd take forever to move up to the majors.

I play my 2B mostly so each game is only like 10 mins. Less if the pitcher is on his game and I don't have to field. Even less if I'm knocking HRs and don't have to watch my teammates ABs where they take like 10 pitches each. So I essentially play every game until I'm close to clinching a spot in the playoffs, then I start simulating. If I fall out of 1st place I'll start playing again
