Trying to help someone out with their computer. It runs slow when opening folders or applications, sometimes doing the rainbow pinwheel.

I've ran verify and repairs through Disk Utility and there are not any ongoing errors, I've also exhausted OnyX and the on-board RAM diagnostics. Everything comes up clean, including S.M.A.R.T.

The cheap bastard will not drop cash on a new HDD.

Anyone have an idea how to test the HDD specifically?

Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like a aging HDD. One thing that mite help him is, back up the stuff he wants/needs and do a fresh install. Other wise he needs to stop being cheap and get a SSD they are cheap now a days.
