Hey bros, I know the whole meal frequency myth is old news but i've just been wondering if I have ~1000 calories in a single meal (my post-workout meal) is this detrimental to muscle growth or fat loss? I've been doing this for about a year now as i've been IFing for roughly a year. The meal is composed of 77 grams of protein 151 grams of carbs and 10 grams of fat. I heard that the biggest meal is supposed to be your PWO but how big? My other two meals are only 525 calories and it's these meals that i get my fats in( im coming off a cut which is why for the moment my calories are pretty low). I mean, I know im still able to make progress on this type of eating regimen because i've been making progress over the last year it's just i want to know if there is anything i can possibly do better nutritionally. I'd really appreciate any advice bros, thanks.

No its fine. Macros at the end of the day are what matters most.

Not to sound like I'm dissing JB22U's input because I value it., but I'd like to get more than one reply on this.

Agreed. Doesn't matter. Extra cals are stored temporarily but pulled out of storage when needed. Calories in/out at the end of the day are all that matter. Meal size/ frequency are personal preference. Life's hard enough. Don't make yourself adhere to 'rules' that won't help you achieve your goals. Focus on the things that matter.

i prefer between 800-1500 cals per meal, usually.

meeting nutrient minimums is more important than timing; and there are plenty of IFers here who love it.

enjoy your food

I've had this exact question for almost a year but didn't know how to phrase it. I'm on 1850 kcal a day right now, 170/75/125 p/f/c. Doing my version of IF. first meal is approx 500 cals at 12PM. Fats and protein. Second meal is pre workout, about 250 cals, mixed. First pwo meal is around 500 cals mixed, second meal is always a protein concontion about 600 cals. So I'm usually eating a "meal" of around 900-1100 cals in the 2-3 hours after my workout and right before bed. That's over 1/2 my daily cals in one "meal". Anyone else do this with dinner? I literally have to have some sort of sludge before bed. It's an addiction. Calorie wise it's my biggest meal of the day, size wise it's not. I should probably eat it first pwo, but I just can't end the day with chicken and veggies.

There's no reason to have it PWO vs later

It really doesn't matter, as long as you're meeting your total calories for the day.

You can eat big meals as long as you dont mix carbs with proteins and fats.

Caloric content of individual meals, for a health individual, is largely governed by personal preference within the bounds of common sense and the constraint of your caloric targets. The timing of larger and/or smaller meals, similarly, is also a predominately determined by individual preference.

Thus, there's nothing inherently wrong or right about consuming 1,000 calories post workout, consuming more calories than that, or consuming less or no calories shortly after your workout.

MY SUGGESTION: Experiment and find what works best for you. Some folks like to have a protein shake post workout, some folks like to have a big whole food/minimally processed meal, like steak and salad post workout, and some folks prefer to wait an hour or several hours before eating. All these options are fine, but the best option is the one that makes you feel the best.

What works for me, for example, is to train in an overnight fasted state and not eat for several hours post workout, and when I do eat, I typically consume 1,500 to 2,500 calories in my first meal of the day, composed from high fat, moderate protein and very low carbs. This works wonderfully for me. My wife is almost the opposite, so she does what works for her.

I'll be eating probably 2000 calories tonight in 1 meal (All you can eat Korean BBQ) and it'll be my only meal. I've done that a few times already the past few months and it hasn't stalled me in my weight loss mission at all.

I guess I'll throw in a meal sample I had posted a ways back

Successful breakfast is successful.

6 scrambled eggs, 6 pieces of toast, 2 peanut butter sandwiches, 2 5oz cups of greek yogurt. Debating on whether to keep eating, I'm not full yet

Estimates so far:

cals - 1900
pro - 109g
cho - 200g
fat - 73g

That is absurd. I used to think I ate alot in one meal until I came into this thread. 2500cal meals omg lol I can't imagine eating that from clean sources... maybe greasy burgers/fries/etc.

i was a little disappointed in myself today. we went to Houston's steakhouse and i ate some spinach dip, a side salad (they're big side salads) a hawaiian steak and couldn't finish the baked potato. i used to be able to polish off all that food and still find a way to stuff myself with dessert...

Eats 1/4th of it, and is "beyond stuffed".
