The truthful answer; about 5% less. Women tend to want more flexibility with their job (for family) than men. Us men are less balanced and are willing to let work dominate our lives compared to women.

Details: Obama has been pushing the 77% lie in 2014. That's apples to potato comparison. That's not even for the same jobs. That's taking the avg man's income vs. the average woman's income. When controlling for factors such as women being out of the workforce for years due to children, working part-time because of children, work experience and education, and instead doing a true apples to apples comparison, women make 95% of what men make for the same job. Numerous studies have come up with this (some say 93-95%) and even the Labor Department, which is under Obama's executive branch just last year concluded when doing a true equal assessment, women make 5% less for the same work. But men are also 8x as likely to negotiate their salaries than women. That pretty easily accounts for the 5% difference.

People citing the 77% statistic are purposely lying. Any family with 2+ kids can tell you why the fathers at a company make more than the mothers at the company with the same job title. Mommy is working 30 hours a week and taking kids to soccer while daddy is at work, missing those games.

It is an averaging - a great portion of women quit working and become house wives. Many refuse to work long hours and thus get skipped over for promotions. A lot of them have kids and quit working to become moms. A lot have kids and miss **** tons of work as they feel work is less important than their children.

All of these things equate to less money.

If it were true that you could pay women less money for the _same_ work all men would be unemployed. However, that is of course not the case.

Also, men tend to go for higher paying careers and trades than women. Women usually go to school for some bullchit worthless arts or business degree and are content with working basic admin or being retail managers. High paying jobs in the trades or business sector are usually what men aim for. More technical stuff.
