Only 1 of the top 12 offenses have won a ring....thats pretty bad

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2014/02/02/how-the-all-time-best-offenses-did-in-the-postseason-hint-not-so-good-and-some-super-bowl-48-prop-bets/

whats more eye popping is that Brad/Manning combined are on this list 6 times...Arguably 2 of the top 3 QBS ever to play the game and have 0 rings combined to show for there elite offense....

Great Defense>>>>>>>(insert any QB)

Ive known this for a while....just cool to see an article actually back it up

This is a bit misleading. Balance wins championships. Sure, you can look at it with a very specious argument saying no #1 offense wins championships, but the 49ers won 4 superbowls by revolutionizing NFL offenses. Similarly, the Packers and Saints won Superbowls with great offenses and special teams play and decent or so-so-defenses. And of course, the Rams were 1 FG away from repeating.

It would be better to evaluate this using the average offensive rank and defensive rank of superbowl champions.

I've already linked that only 1 of the top 14 defenses of all time has ever won a ring either.

Aka this means nothing. You never take the top of the top for either of them.

You win with balance.

yup

the NFL's passing yardage leader has never won a Super Bowl. Generally, the idea of passing that much means that there isn't a balanced attack and teams are more easily shut down because of the one-dimensional offense

Well, he did find it "eye popping", you fuking little prick.

Article is flawed because it strictly uses points, not the eye test. Leaving off teams like the 1989 49ers, 1994 49ers, 1992 and 1993 Cowboys, 1998 Broncos. Those 70s Steelers teams had 6 offensive Hall of Famers.

U wot m8? Why is the eye test required for something that can literally be sorted by stats lol

The eye test is the most biased thing I've ever heard. Basically if advanced analysis disagrees with you, call it the eye test and continue as if you were right.

ITT prime Montana, prime Rice, prime Taylor, prime Craig, prime Rathman, prime Jones, beast as phuck offensive line is not a top 12 offense of all time.

Do you even 90s Cowboys? 70s Steelers?

Those offenses take up like 72% of the hall of fame.

Did they put up as many points as those being lsited? So I'll ask again, how were they better at scoring points if they didn't score as many points?

The league as a whole scores more points now. Game is officiated differently. 11 of the teams on the list are from 1998 forward. Potato article.

Meaning offenses are now better. Were the rules changed in 1998? Lol your argument is just collapsing in on itself.

The article is about the highest scoring offenses. The offenses you listed do not fit the criteria. See you later.

If the article was titled "The top 12 highest scoring NFL teams" it would read better.

I think the QB contract bubble is going to burst pretty soon. Look how many teams are completely hamstrung because of how much they pay their QB.

WRs were getting raped downfield in the 70s, 80s and 90s. You could do whatever you wanted to the QB

whats your point??? do you honestly believe that the Steeler teams from the 70's are better offensively than the 07 Pats??

Debatable. 1989 49ers smoke the 2007 Pats though.

The Rams were the only team to win, but they also had the #4 defense. The following year when they lost they were dead last in defense.
