View Full Version : Is It a Bad Idea to Play Football a Day After Pulling a Lower Back Muscle?

I went to work today and I sat down on a chair that somebody else had sat on (I could tell because it was way too low). At one point, I tried to get up and I felt this shooting pain in my lower back. I haven't had any injury issues in a while and felt fantastic going into work. I have no idea at all why this would happen

It got pretty bad that If I got up, the pain would start shooting again. It's been about 3 and a half hours and it's gotten a lot better but there is still some faint soreness

I'm supposed to be playing in a football game tomorrow and now I'm afraid I may not be able to go. What can I do to accelerate my recovery? I always play defensive end and it's going to be tackle football tomorrow. I desperately wanna play :(

it's gotten much better. I can do the DL stance and get off the line without any real pain

What am I risking if I play?

As someone who is just recovering from a severe lower back spasm/contusion, I will tell you lower back is NOT something you want to f*ck with. Took me 6 weeks to recovery to be able to play contact/run sports and I still get some discomfort/tingling time to time.

I don't think mine is anything even near severe. Almost all the pain and soreness has gone away in 5 or 6 hours

Yea because playing football with your friends is nowhere near as fun or as much of excellent cardiovascular exercise as posting on the misc

You're 24 years old playing tackle football in the backyard with your boys... You're not doing it because you're wanting cardio, you're doing it because you're closet homo.

It's a lot of fun
It's great competition (I'm very competitive)
It's great cardio
It's a great way to burn a million calories on a day that I'm going to probably going to eat about 6K calories
